Takhian Tia Mayor Inspects Waste Sorting Facility Amid Community Concerns, Stresses Strict Adherence to Legal Procedures
TAKHIAN TIA, Thailand – August 14th, 2026 – Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality Mayor Mitchai Prakobtham, together with Deputy Mayor Wachira Suchoe, municipal council members, the Public Health and Environment Division, the mayor’s team, and relevant agencies, inspected a materials sorting facility in Village No. 3 of Takhian Tia Subdistrict on Thursday. The visit followed public complaints and social media reports about potential impacts on the community, including noise disturbances and health concerns.
Local administrative officials, led by Village Headman Montrian Boonkradang, along with other local authorities, joined the inspection and fact-finding efforts.
Preliminary findings showed the business occupies approximately 5 rai of land containing scrap metal, aluminum, and machinery. Municipal officials noted that the facility remains in the process of obtaining the required local permits. The municipality had previously issued a temporary order suspending operations.
The operator explained that inquiries had been made with relevant agencies regarding land use and zoning prior to starting the business, and that a public hearing process had earlier taken place. The operator stated readiness to cooperate fully with the municipality, is currently clearing materials from the site, and will proceed with the proper permit applications as required.
Mayor Mitchai and the inspection team expressed concern over possible effects on residents’ health, quality of life, and the environment. They noted that surrounding communities and villages have continued to expand, making careful consideration essential, along with listening to local residents’ views.
Municipal officials informed the operator that operations can only proceed with full authorization from all relevant agencies and in complete compliance with legal procedures. Even if industrial permits have been granted, the business cannot operate without local administrative organization approval or without completing any legally required public consultation processes.
The municipality has given the operator 30 days to remove materials from the site and to complete all necessary documentation and permits before any resumption of operations can be considered. Any future decision will take into account legal requirements, the suitability of the location, and the views and potential impacts on the local community.
The inspection represented coordinated efforts among the municipality, local administrative officials, the operator, and residents. Officials said the goal is to find a fair and appropriate solution that prioritizes the safety, health, and quality of life of people in the Takhian Tia Subdistrict.
