survey finds divide

Survey finds divide over AI

A new report from the Pew Research Center shows that artificial intelligence (AI) experts and the general public have very different opinions about the future of AI.

While experts are mostly positive about its impact many people are worried that AI could replace jobs and create new challenges. According to the survey, 56% of AI experts believe the technology will have a positive effect on the United States over the next 20 years.

In comparison, only 17% of the public share that view. Experts are more confident that AI will improve the way people work and help grow the economy.

However many people are concerned that AI could reduce job opportunities especially in roles that depend on human workers.

The report also highlights the jobs experts believe are most likely to be affected by AI. About 73% think cashier jobs could be replaced followed by truck drivers (62%) journalists (60%) factory workers (60%) and software engineers (50%).

The public generally agrees with these predictions although only 33% believe truck drivers are at high risk.

Both experts and the public agree that healthcare is one of the areas where AI can bring the greatest benefits.

They believe AI could improve medical care and support better treatment. At the same time both groups are concerned that AI may not improve the accuracy of news or election coverage.

The survey also found strong support for greater control over AI. Many respondents believe governments may struggle to regulate the technology effectively as it continues to develop.

Another finding is the difference between male and female AI experts. Around 63% of male experts expect AI to have a positive impact on the United States compared with 36% of female experts.

Women were generally more cautious saying the technology could have both benefits and risks. The report also notes that women remain underrepresented in the AI industry.

Researchers suggest that increasing women’s participation in AI development could lead to more balanced technologies.

They also point out that many jobs with a large number of female workers such as administrative and customer service roles are becoming more automated increasing the risk of job losses.

Overall the report shows that understanding both expert opinions and public concerns is important.

As AI continues to grow balancing its benefits with responsible rules and safeguards will be essential.

  • Keep your laptop cool

A charger should not be chosen only because its connector fits your laptop. Its voltage, current and power rating must also match the laptop’s requirements. Using a cheap or poor quality charger can cause charging problems and may damage the battery or other components.  In some cases faulty chargers can also create electrical or fire hazards. Do not ignore excessive heat If your laptop becomes unusually hot while charging do not ignore it. High temperatures can reduce battery health and may affect other internal components. Stop demanding tasks for a while, move the laptop to a cooler place and make sure its vents are not blocked.  A good cooling pad may also help in some situations. Avoid heavy work while charging Using a laptop while it is charging is not automatically harmful.  Normal activities such as browsing the internet writing documents or watching videos are usually fine. However heavy gaming 4K video editing or running demanding software can put a lot of load on the processor and cooling system.  If the vents are blocked or full of dust the laptop may become even hotter. Do not regularly drain the battery to zero Repeatedly allowing a modern lithium-ion or lithium polymer battery to reach 0% is generally not the best everyday habit. Try to charge the laptop before the battery becomes completely empty. If the battery percentage seems inaccurate follow the manufacturer’s instructions for battery calibration if that feature or procedure is recommended. Be careful with public charging Avoid using unknown chargers power banks or cables in public places.  Poor quality charging equipment can damage your device while unfamiliar USB connections may also create security and data risks. Keep the laptop clean dust can build up around cooling fans and air vents over time. This can reduce airflow and cause the laptop to heat up. Clean the vents regularly using a suitable cleaning method recommended for your laptop.  Avoid forcing dust deeper into the device. Use a Proper battery and Charger A laptop battery is more than a simple power source. It includes safety features and charging controls designed for a specific device. If the original battery needs replacement choose a compatible good-quality battery from a reliable source rather than using an unverified replacement. If the battery becomes swollen the bottom of the laptop starts to bulge the device suddenly shuts down or it becomes unusually hot stop using it and have it checked by a qualified technician.  Do not try to open or remove a swollen battery yourself. Check the Charging cable The charging cable is just as important as the charger. Do not use a cable that is cut burned damaged unusually hot or has a loose connection. A damaged cable can cause unstable charging and may create electrical or safety risks. Small habits can protect your laptop Charging a laptop is simple but careless habits can slowly affect its battery and overall performance. Using the right charger keeping the device cool avoiding blocked vents and taking care of the battery can help your laptop stay in good condition for longer.

  • Road Safety: Everyone’s Responsibility

By Sumaiya Azeem Behind every road accident statistic is a name, a family, a dream that never came true. The next name doesn’t have to be someone we know—but only if we take responsibility. Road accidents do not happen by chance; they happen because of preventable mistakes. Saving lives is a shared responsibility. Road safety is not just about following traffic rules, it is about protecting human lives. Every day in Pakistan, we hear about road accidents on the news. A bike crash near a school, a bus overturned on the highway, and a child hit while crossing the road—these aren’t just headlines. They are the fathers who won’t come back, students whose exams will never be taken, and futures cut short. Roads connect people, communities, and economies. They allow students to reach school, workers to reach their workplace, and families to travel from one place to another. However, road accidents have become one of the leading causes of death and injury across the world, and unsafe road behavior has turned roads into a major global safety challenge. Every day, thousands of people lose their lives or suffer serious injuries; it also causes permanent disability and leaves families with lifelong conditions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.19 million people die every year due to road traffic crashes, while 20 to 30 million people suffer non-fatal injuries, many of which result in permanent disability. Road accidents are a serious public health and economic issue. The WHO report shows that more than 90% of traffic accidents occur in low- and middle-income countries. These accidents cause enormous financial losses. Medical expenses, vehicle damage, loss of productivity, and long-term disability create a heavy burden on families. There are several major causes of road accidents. Overspeeding is one of the leading causes of serious road accidents. When vehicles move at high speeds, drivers have less time to react to sudden dangers such as pedestrians crossing, vehicles stopping suddenly, or obstacles on the road. It also increases the severity of injuries during a crash. The use of mobile phones while driving has also become a growing danger. Texting, making calls, or scrolling on social media can cause more accidents. Responsible drivers must keep their full attention on the roads and avoid unnecessary distractions. In addition, driving after consuming alcohol or drugs seriously affects judgment. An impaired driver may not realize the danger in time or may make risky decisions that endanger others. Strict laws and public awareness are necessary to prevent such behavior. Ignoring traffic signals, unsafe overtaking, driving on the wrong side of the road, and failing to give way are other common causes of crashes. Traffic rules are designed to protect everyone; following them is a responsibility, not merely a legal requirement. Moreover, one mistake by one person creates a ripple effect that impacts everyone on the road. A road accident doesn’t just hurt one person. It breaks a family, blocks traffic for hours, burdens hospitals, and wastes national resources. A helmet, a seatbelt, or a 10-second wait at a red light can save lives. Apart from this, everyone has a role to play: Drivers have the biggest role. They must wear seatbelts, avoid using phones while driving, follow speed limits, and obey traffic signals. Riders, especially motorcyclists, are very vulnerable. They should always wear helmets, avoid rash driving, and use indicators, which also helps them stay visible. Pedestrians also need to be careful. A pedestrian is anyone walking on foot. They should use footpaths and zebra crossings, look both ways before crossing, and avoid distractions like headphones on busy roads. Pakistan faces significant road safety challenges due to rapid population growth, an increasing number of vehicles, unsafe driving practices, and weak enforcement. Improving road safety requires better roads, stronger law enforcement, and public awareness. The problem can be solved by following traffic rules, raising awareness, building better road infrastructure, and utilizing strict law enforcement to help prevent accidents. In short, if drivers drive carefully, riders stay alert, pedestrians walk safely, and the community supports traffic rules, we can make our roads much safer. Road safety is not the duty of one person or one department; it is a responsibility shared by everyone. Governments must provide safe infrastructure, and citizens must make responsible choices. A moment of carelessness can destroy a family, while a moment of responsibility can save a life. By respecting traffic rules and promoting awareness, we can create safer roads for ourselves and future generations. Every journey should end safely, and every single person has a role in making it possible.

    China introduces brain-controlled robot technology

Several countries are actively developing Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology which enables people to interact with devices using only their thoughts without the need for physical movement. Now, a Chinese company is working to integrate this technology into robots. According to BrainCo, the company has developed the world’s first brain-to-robot interface system allowing robots to be controlled directly through human thought. The company said the system works using EEG headsets which are worn by human operators. These headsets monitor brain activity and translate it into commands that are sent to the robot. Like other BCI technologies, the system relies on extensive training data that maps specific patterns of brain activity to corresponding actions. Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms are then used to accurately interpret a person’s intended action and convert it into the correct robotic response. The technology called the Brain-Controlled Robot AI Platform was unveiled at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. BrainCo said the system can be used not only to control robots but also to operate robotic arms and other connected devices. The platform continuously collects data which is used to further improve its AI algorithms and enhance performance over time. According to the company, rapid advances in AI have enabled robots to perform many tasks independently. However, it believes the next major challenge is ensuring that robots can effectively understand and collaborate with the humans working alongside them.
