Teen in clown costume arrested after fatal stabbin…

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing a 78-year-old man while dressed in a clown costume in East St. Louis, Illinois, in a case that has shocked local residents and gained widespread attention online. Authorities say doorbell camera footage and neighborhood surveillance videos were instrumental in identifying and apprehending the suspect.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday night when the victim, John Wesley Allen Sr., was waiting at a bus stop to meet his sister. Investigators allege that the teenager, dressed in a loose black-and-red clown outfit, suddenly attacked the elderly man with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. Allen, a retired bus driver and US Navy veteran, died from his injuries.

Before the fatal attack, the suspect was reportedly seen wandering through nearby neighborhoods while wearing the clown costume. Residents told investigators that the teenager rang several doorbells, peered through windows, and appeared to be searching for someone. One widely shared doorbell camera video shows the suspect leaning toward the camera and whispering, “I’m looking for you,” in a chilling moment that later spread across social media.

Initially, many online users believed the footage was part of a prank or a horror-themed stunt. However, police later confirmed that the video was connected to a real homicide investigation, adding to the public shock surrounding the case.

One local resident told police that if his mother had opened the door after the suspect rang the bell, she might also have become a victim. Investigators are reviewing additional surveillance footage and digital evidence to determine whether the attack was premeditated or a random act of violence.

Using surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses, police identified the suspect and arrested him within hours at a residence in the area. Authorities have charged the teenager with first-degree murder. Because the suspect is a minor, law enforcement officials have not released his identity.

Police said preliminary findings indicate that the victim and the suspect had no known connection, suggesting the stabbing may have been a random attack. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue examining evidence, including social media activity and surveillance recordings, to establish the motive behind the killing.

The case has drawn national attention due to its disturbing nature and the viral spread of the doorbell camera footage, while authorities continue to urge the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is complete.

PPP rejects Sindh division, calls province ‘red …

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has firmly rejected any proposal to divide Sindh into administrative units, with Sindh government spokesperson Saadia Javed declaring that the province remains a “red line” for the party. Speaking to the media on Monday, Javed said the PPP has never supported the division of Sindh and has no intention of doing so in the future. She argued that Pakistan’s current economic challenges and rising inflation make the creation of additional administrative units impractical, questioning how the government would finance such a move. Criticising the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), she described the demand for new administrative units as a political stunt. Javed questioned the performance of senior MQM leaders, including Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, asking what concrete steps they had taken to address the concerns of their voters or improve education and public services. She reiterated that Karachi is the capital of Sindh and stressed that any attempt to divide the province is unacceptable to the PPP. According to Javed, while some people in Punjab may favour the creation of additional administrative units, the people of Sindh do not share that view. Addressing Karachi’s civic challenges, she acknowledged that infrastructure development is underway but admitted that progress has not been as fast as residents expect. Referring to ongoing construction on University Road, she recognised the inconvenience faced by commuters and residents. She also shared her own experience, saying that despite living in Defence for four decades, her home still does not receive a regular water supply. Javed said the provincial government is working to resolve Karachi’s longstanding issues and insisted that all of the city’s problems should not be blamed solely on the current administration. She expressed confidence that visible improvements in Karachi would emerge by the end of the year. On the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project, the spokesperson said work is progressing at a rapid pace, adding that the deadline for completing the mixed-lane track has been set for July 31.

South Korea offers North Korea formal end to war

South Korea has made a fresh and potentially significant proposal to North Korea, calling for both sides to formally bring an end to the Korean War and move away from decades of hostility. According to officials, Seoul has urged Pyongyang to abandon threats and confrontational policies and instead work toward ending the state of war that has technically remained unresolved since the 1953 armistice. The South Korean government also proposed establishing a coordinated security system along the border to help prevent military tensions and reduce the risk of accidental clashes. The initiative is aimed at creating greater stability on the heavily fortified Korean Peninsula. The proposal comes amid continued tensions between the two Koreas, where military activity and hostile rhetoric have repeatedly raised concerns about a possible escalation. Seoul’s latest offer could open a new diplomatic door if Pyongyang responds positively, although North Korea has historically remained cautious about South Korean-led initiatives. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump also drew attention to the issue by sharing a memorable photograph on social media showing his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The developments have renewed questions over whether diplomacy could eventually replace confrontation on the Korean Peninsula.

Pralhad Joshi appointed India’s Education Mi…

Pralhad Joshi has been appointed as India’s new education minister following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, who stepped down on Saturday after weeks of youth-led protests over a major exam leak scandal . The 63-year-old Joshi, who already serves as minister of new and renewable energy and consumer affairs, food and public distribution, will now also handle the education portfolio a task political analysts say is likely to prove challenging amid heightened public scrutiny over the country’s education system . Pradhan’s departure was one of the central demands of the student demonstrations that erupted after allegations surfaced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) medical entrance exam paper had been leaked . Nearly 2.3 million test takers across India, as well as at examination centers in Doha, Dubai, Singapore, and Kathmandu, appeared for the NEET on May 3, competing for fewer than 130,000 spots in medical colleges . After the leak allegations, the Indian government announced on May 12 that the examination was voided and that a new test would be held. The decision left thousands of students disillusioned and frustrated, sparking protests that spread across the country and evolved into a major challenge for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) . Joshi, one of the Modi government’s longest-serving ministers, is seen as close to the powerful prime minister . Following his appointment to lead the Ministry of Education, Joshi wrote on social media that he was “grateful” to Modi “for placing his faith” in him and “entrusting” him with responsibility . “I accept it with humility and a deep sense of duty,” he said . On Sunday, Joshi held his first meeting as education minister to assess the situation and implement new schemes aimed at restoring trust in the examination system . The move signals the government’s urgency to address the grievances of students and parents who have demanded greater transparency and accountability . The NEET scandal has exposed broader concerns about the integrity of India’s competitive examination system, which determines access to coveted professional seats. With millions of students’ futures hanging in the balance, Joshi’s appointment represents both a test of his crisis management skills and a pivotal moment for educational reform in the world’s most populous nation .
