Thailand Condemns Cambodian Rocket Attack on Civilian Market in Sa Kaeo

SA KAEO – The Thai Defence Ministry has strongly condemned Cambodia for launching BM-21 rockets into civilian areas in Sa Kaeo province, including a major border market, prompting an urgent evacuation. The attack on Sunday targeted the densely populated commercial hub of the Rong Kluea Border Market in Aranyaprathet district, known for goods imported from Cambodia and China.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri stated the assault demonstrated the cruelty of Cambodian forces by deliberately aiming at civilian zones. The attack triggered panic among residents, traders, and shoppers, with at least ten loud explosions reported in and around the market area.

Following the rocket fire, the First Army Region ordered an immediate evacuation of the area. Residents in Ta Phraya, Khok Sung, Aranyaprathet, and Khlong Hat districts were advised not to return to their homes and to remain at official evacuation centers until the situation stabilizes. Free transport to shelters was arranged from pickup points such as Siammin Plaza in Aranyaprathet for those without private vehicles.

Local witnesses described the blasts as louder and closer than previous incidents since border clashes began. A trader reported hearing six consecutive explosions initially, followed by several more, causing vendors to quickly shut their stalls and flee.

The First Army Region also issued a public warning that Burapha Task Force units were conducting military operations against Cambodian targets across the border. The ongoing clashes continue to threaten civilian safety along the volatile frontier.

    LONDON: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Tipu Usman, inaugurated an art exhibition titled “Legacy Beyond Time”, celebrating the life, vision and enduring legacy of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, at the historic National Liberal Club, where the founder of Pakistan was once a member. The exhibition was organised by the Mont Rose Foundation in collaboration with the Pakistan High Commission, London, as part of the commemorative events marking the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam, being celebrated this year. Featuring a collection of watercolour paintings by renowned artist Amera Rashid, the exhibition attracted a large gathering of British and Pakistani admirers of Quaid-e-Azam, who viewed artistic depictions reflecting his leadership, statesmanship and contribution to the creation of Pakistan. Delivering the keynote address, High Commissioner Tipu Usman said Quaid-e-Azam firmly believed in the rule of law, reasoned argument, dialogue and political negotiation despite political differences. He said Jinnah’s legacy was not merely about remembering the struggle that led to the creation of Pakistan, but also about understanding the principles, democratic values and vision that guided that historic movement. The High Commissioner praised the efforts of Bilal Sheikh, Chief Executive of the Mont Rose Foundation, for organising the exhibition and for commissioning a permanent portrait of Quaid-e-Azam, now displayed at the National Liberal Club. Speaking on the occasion, Bilal Sheikh described it as a privilege to host the exhibition at such a prestigious venue closely associated with Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said Quaid-e-Azam’s vision had inspired millions across generations and noted that the National Liberal Club was a place where Jinnah frequently held meetings during his time in London.     The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) staged a strong recovery during the first half of trading on Friday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index climbing nearly 1,380 points before trading was temporarily suspended for the weekly Friday prayer break. The market opened on a positive note, extending gains throughout the morning session as investors returned to selective buying following recent losses driven by regional geopolitical tensions. By midday, the KSE-100 Index had risen 1,378 points, or 0.79%, to reach 176,926. During intraday trading, the benchmark touched a high of 177,108.66 before easing slightly. The index also found support around 176,405.33, indicating sustained buying interest across key sectors. Trading activity remained steady, with more than 101.8 million shares changing hands during the morning session. The total value of traded shares reached approximately Rs6.96 billion, reflecting healthy market participation despite the shortened trading period. Trading was suspended at midday in line with the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s routine Friday prayer break and was scheduled to resume later in the afternoon. The market’s rebound followed a volatile trading week shaped by uncertainty in the Middle East and fluctuations in global oil prices. Investors appeared to set aside concerns over rising regional tensions and instead focused on attractive valuations in selected stocks. On Thursday, the benchmark index had closed at 175,547.98 after selling pressure weighed on investor sentiment. Friday’s recovery helped the market regain a significant portion of those losses. Broader market performance also remained positive, with the All-Share Index and several sectoral indices posting gains during the morning session. Market participants are expected to closely monitor both domestic economic developments and geopolitical events in the Middle East as trading resumes, with investors assessing their potential impact on market sentiment in the coming sessions.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Friday launched a sharp criticism of the country’s ruling coalition, claiming that administrative reforms or the creation of new provinces would not weaken his party’s political strength. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House, Gohar said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lacked both the political will and public mandate to introduce major constitutional changes, including the formation of new administrative units or provinces. “You may create 100 provinces, but PTI will still emerge victorious across the country because the people stand with Imran Khan,” Gohar said, asserting that the former prime minister continues to enjoy overwhelming public support. The PTI chairman also commented on the health of Bushra Bibi, saying she had recently been shifted to hospital for an eye examination before being returned to Adiala Jail. He said he was informed about her transfer only after she had already been taken to the hospital. Responding to speculation about political contacts, Gohar denied having any communication with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi or PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He questioned the government’s handling of national affairs and urged authorities to explain what had led the country’s governance system into what he described as a “default mode.” Turning to the judiciary, Gohar argued that recent constitutional amendments had failed to improve the justice system despite the appointment of dozens of additional judges. He claimed public confidence in judicial institutions had declined and called for reforms based on consensus rather than political interests. The PTI leader further alleged that the ruling parties were considering administrative restructuring to weaken the opposition. He insisted that constitutional amendments should not be introduced without broad political agreement. Gohar also criticised the PPP, accusing it of remaining silent on national issues while focusing on political gains. He repeated PTI’s longstanding allegations regarding the 2024 general elections and challenged the PPP leadership to a public debate over disputed electoral seats, including constituencies in Karachi. His remarks come amid renewed political debate over constitutional reforms, governance and the country’s evolving political landscape, with both the government and opposition continuing to exchange sharp criticism over electoral legitimacy and institutional performance.
