Tom Holland hints at Spider-Man future as Sony hop…

Tom Holland has opened up about the future of his time as Spider-Man, admitting that he has started thinking about life beyond the beloved superhero role. However, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman has made it clear that he hopes the British actor will continue wearing the famous red-and-blue suit for years to come.

The conversation comes shortly after the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has become one of the biggest box office hits of 2026. While promoting the film, Holland reflected on his decade-long journey as Peter Parker and revealed that he has begun considering the next chapter for the franchise. Although he is not officially retiring, the actor suggested he would be content “swinging off into the sunset” when the right time arrives. 

Holland explained that he does not want Spider-Man to become a role he outgrows. Instead, he hopes to help introduce the next generation of heroes, particularly fan-favorite Miles Morales. The 30-year-old actor said he would love to remain involved in the franchise by mentoring a future Spider-Man, much like Robert Downey Jr. supported him during his early years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

Despite Holland’s comments, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman is optimistic that the actor’s journey as Spider-Man is far from over. Speaking after the massive success of Brand New Day, Rothman acknowledged that discussions about the character’s future are ongoing but stressed that no final decisions have been made. He also expressed his hope that Holland will continue portraying the web-slinger, praising his contribution to the franchise’s remarkable success. 

Holland’s recent remarks differ slightly from comments he made earlier this year, when he admitted that saying he should stop playing Spider-Man after turning 30 was something he no longer believed. Looking back, he explained that those earlier statements were made at a different stage in his life and that he now feels grateful for the opportunities the character has given him. He added that he would happily continue if the story remained exciting and meaningful. 

The overwhelming response to Spider-Man: Brand New Day has only strengthened fans’ hopes that Holland will stay with the franchise. The film has earned praise for presenting a more mature Peter Parker while opening the door to future storylines involving new Marvel characters. Many viewers have described it as the beginning of an exciting new era rather than the end of Holland’s journey. 

For now, neither Sony nor Marvel has confirmed when Holland’s final appearance as Spider-Man will come. While the actor is openly thinking about eventually passing the torch, he has also made it clear that he wants to ensure the character is left in good hands. With studio executives eager to keep him and audiences continuing to embrace his portrayal, Holland’s future as Spider-Man remains bright—even if he is already thinking about what comes next.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the newly signed defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye is strictly defensive in nature. He said the pact is not intended to promote aggression or create tensions in the region. The prime minister made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet on Monday. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement on August 7 in Makkah. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation among the three countries in the field of defence and security. Under the pact, an attack against any one of the three signatories would be treated as an attack against all three. The arrangement is intended to strengthen collective deterrence and improve coordination among the countries. PM Shehbaz said the main objective of the agreement was to promote peace, stability, progress and prosperity across the region. He stressed that the agreement should not be viewed as a preparation for military aggression. The prime minister described the pact as a source of strength for Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. He also said its benefits could extend to the wider Muslim world. Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their role in the agreement. He said discussions on stronger defence cooperation between the countries had continued for several years before the latest agreement was finalised. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had already signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement in September 2025. The prime minister said Pakistan and Turkiye had also maintained defence and security arrangements for decades. Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing defence cooperation with Saudi Arabia. He recalled that Pakistani personnel had served alongside Saudi forces in protecting the holy cities of Makkah and Madina. He said the latest trilateral agreement builds on those longstanding ties and provides a broader framework for cooperation. The agreement has also received attention across the Muslim world. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation described it as an important strategic development. Several countries, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Somalia, have welcomed the agreement. Iran has also responded in a relatively positive tone. Tehran reiterated its preference for regional security arrangements based on cooperation among countries in the region. The agreement comes amid growing security concerns across the Middle East and wider region. Its signatories have presented the pact as a mechanism for collective defence rather than an offensive alliance. The Pakistani government has maintained that the arrangement is aimed at strengthening regional stability and protecting the sovereignty and security of its members.

    Pakistan records $6.24 billion net FDI since SIFC …

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has attracted approximately US$ 6.24 billion in net Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from FY24 to July-April FY26 since the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), according to data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The Minister Incharge of SIFC stated that gross FDI inflows during the same period stood at approximately US$ 10.41 billion, highlighting investor confidence in Pakistan’s investment regime. April 2024: Highest Monthly FDI in 51 Months   According to SBP data released in May 2024, FDI inflows surged 172% year-on-year (YoY) to $358.84 million in April 2024, compared to $131.9 million in April 2023. This marks the highest monthly FDI inflow in 51 months. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, FDI jumped 39%, up from $258.04 million in March 2024. For the first 10 months of FY24 (July-April), total FDI inflows reached $1.46 billion, compared to $1.35 billion in the same period of FY23. Top Investors & Sectors Country-wise:   1. China: Largest investor with $177.37 million net FDI in April 2024 2. UAE: $51.93 million 3. Canada: $51.89 million Sector-wise:   The Power sector attracted the highest inflows with $194 million in April 2024, followed by other key sectors.     GLASGOW: The 2026 Commonwealth Games have officially begun in Glasgow and will continue until August 2, bringing together nearly 3,000 athletes from 74 countries to compete across multiple sporting disciplines. Pakistan has sent a 36-member contingent, including 20 athletes, along with coaches and officials, to participate in this year’s event. The national team will compete in six sports: athletics, boxing, judo, gymnastics, lawn bowls and swimming. Pakistan’s biggest medal hope is Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem, who will defend his Commonwealth Games title. Having achieved historic success for Pakistan on the international stage in recent years, Arshad is widely regarded as the country’s strongest contender for a gold medal. In athletics, Pakistan will be represented by Arshad Nadeem, Faiqa Riaz, Ansar Abbas, Muhammad Akhtar, Muhammad Ismail, Muhammad Yasir and Noreen Hussain.     PML-N backs Gilani for AJK Premiership

    ISLAMABAD: Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gilani is set to be elected as the 17th Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) today, August 28, after the AJK Legislative Assembly issued a revised schedule for the election. Gilani’s nomination by PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has placed the party’s central leadership at the centre of the government-formation process in AJK, where the PML-N and its allies hold a comfortable majority in the 53-member Legislative Assembly. Election Schedule According to the revised schedule issued by the AJK Legislative Assembly, nomination papers will be filed from 9:30am to 10:30am, followed by scrutiny from 10:30am to 10:45am. The candidate list will be displayed at 11:00am, while candidates will be allowed to withdraw their papers until 11:30am. The final list will be issued at noon. The election for the prime minister is scheduled for 2:00pm, after Friday prayers, followed by the oath-taking ceremony at 4:00pm at the Presidency. PML-N Holds Numbers The PML-N and its coalition partners currently command 32 seats in the 53-member assembly, including support from JUI and Awami Dast-o-Bazu. The PPP has 14 members and has nominated Mukhtar Ahmed Abbasi and Bazal Naqvi for the prime ministerial contest. With the coalition holding a clear majority, Gilani is widely expected to secure the required votes and become the next AJK premier. Nomination Sparks Internal Reservations Despite the coalition’s numerical strength, Gilani’s nomination has reportedly exposed differences within the PML-N’s AJK chapter. Sources familiar with the matter told Minute Mirror that PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir and former AJK prime minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan expressed reservations during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Qadir was also reportedly opposed to the nomination and indicated that he would neither vote for Gilani nor attend Friday’s assembly session. The extent of internal dissent became evident when only 26 of the 32 lawmakers supporting the coalition attended a dinner hosted by AJK Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq on Thursday night. PML-N leader and Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed Gilani’s nomination on X, saying the decision was taken following consultations within the party leadership. Gilani’s Political Career Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gilani became a member of the AJK Legislative Assembly in August 2026 on a technocrat seat. He previously served as an assembly member from October 2011 to August 2021, giving him considerable experience in AJK politics. Speaker, Deputy Speaker Elected The latest developments follow the election of Chaudhry Tariq Farooq as Speaker of the AJK Legislative Assembly on August 24. He secured 32 votes. Ahmed Raza Qadri was elected Deputy Speaker with the same number of votes. A small cabinet is also expected to take oath after the new prime minister assumes office. Nawaz Sharif’s Role The latest nomination marks another significant turn in the PML-N’s efforts to form the government in AJK. Following the party’s victory in the AJK elections, held in three phases between July 27 and August 10, Nawaz Sharif initially nominated Shah Ghulam Qadir for the top office. The subsequent nomination of Barrister Iftikhar Gilani has therefore introduced an unexpected twist to the government-formation process, while raising questions about whether the PML-N leadership can resolve internal differences before the new government takes shape.
