Update: 27 Dead, Over 60 People Confirmed Injured at Bangkok Bar Fire, Officials Investigate and Discuss Discoveries So Far

Bangkok A fire ripped through the “Rong Beer Na Lad Prao” bar, restaurant, and entertainment venue near Soi Lad Phrao 1 on Lad Phrao Road in Chatuchak district late on July 12th, 2026, killing at least 27 people and injuring 63 others, according to Thai authorities and media reports. The blaze, which broke out around 11:57 p.m., has brought severe concerns over fire exits, building decorations, and licensing compliance.

Firefighters from multiple stations, including Sutthisan, Phahonyothin, Phaya Thai, and Huai Khwang, responded swiftly but faced intense flames that spread rapidly. The fire was brought under control within about 35 minutes, but many victims were found trapped inside, particularly in the bathrooms at the rear of the building. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who visited the scene with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, confirmed the death toll and noted that most fatalities appeared to result from smoke inhalation and panic in confined spaces with limited escape routes, initial reports stating four but the majority used for staff.

Survivors and officials described the fire’s swift escalation. A musician performing at the venue reported seeing smoke emerge from the ceiling near the stage area, followed quickly by a power outage, explosions, and intense flames. Decorative materials, including foam soundproofing on the ceiling, are believed to have accelerated the blaze say officials during early review, causing burning droplets to fall and create further hazards.

Governor Chadchart, who arrived shortly after the alarm and inspected the site, said that the fire “spread very quickly from the ceiling.” He noted that while the venue had obtained permits for food service and live music, a full review of licenses, fire safety systems, and emergency exits is now underway. Earlier inspections by district officials in April had occurred, but questions remain about whether tables or other obstructions blocked escape paths during the incident, or if they were primarily for staff and not everyone.

Chadchart ordered the immediate establishment of a family coordination center to assist relatives of victims and missing persons. He also directed a comprehensive investigation into the building’s compliance with fire exit regulations and overall safety standards.

Forensic teams and relevant agencies have begun probing the exact cause with a detailed review set for 9AM today. Preliminary accounts point to possible electrical issues or ignition near the stage cutoff, potentially involving alcohol vapors or wiring, though no official determination has been made. The venue’s interior suffered extensive damage, with the ceiling largely destroyed while some plastic furnishings near the floor remained relatively intact, showing the role of flammable decorations.

Injured victims, many suffering from burns and smoke inhalation, were transported to nearby hospitals. Authorities continue to monitor 22 critically injured cases.

This incident echoes past nightclub and pub fires in Thailand, renewing calls for stricter enforcement of fire safety codes in entertainment venues. Prime Minister Anutin vowed a thorough probe and support for affected families, while Governor Chadchart stressed that “safety must come first” in all future inspections.

As the investigation proceeds, officials urge the public to report any information that could aid in determining responsibilities and preventing future tragedies. Families seeking updates on loved ones should contact the designated coordination center established by Bangkok authorities.

  • Kath Garh land record delay causes public hardship

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The continued delay in the preparation, completion and computerization of the four year land record of Kath Garh Patwari Circle has become a serious matter of public concern, causing difficulties for citizens in dealing with land-related affairs. Land records are directly linked to the fundamental rights and legal matters of the public. Their timely completion, verification and accuracy are therefore essential. According to information, the four-year record of Kath Garh Patwari Circle has still not been fully prepared and computerized, resulting in difficulties for residents in obtaining land records, processing mutations, verification and completing other property-related matters. In contrast, land records in most areas of Dera Ismail Khan district, particularly in Tehsil Paharpur, have already been prepared and computerized. This raises questions about why the process in Kath Garh has remained delayed for such a long period and requires the immediate attention of the concerned authorities. In the modern era, securing, maintaining and computerizing government records is an essential requirement for ensuring transparency and preventing disputes. Even a minor error or unnecessary delay in land records can create prolonged difficulties for citizens. The completion of the Kath Garh four-year record should therefore be treated as a matter of urgency rather than merely routine official paperwork. Complete transparency and strict compliance with laws and regulations must particularly be ensured in mutations and other land-related matters. Until the four-year record is fully completed, verified and computerized, the concerned authorities should issue clear written instructions regarding mutations so that legal or administrative complications do not arise in the future. Residents have demanded that they should not face unnecessary obstacles in obtaining records of their own land. They urged senior officials to take immediate notice of the issue, set a clear deadline for completion of the record, personally monitor the process and determine the reasons behind the delay. Those responsible for the delay should also be asked to explain their position. The people of Kath Garh deserve the same facilities that are available to residents of other areas of the district. Immediate completion and computerization of the four-year land record would not only alleviate public difficulties but also strengthen transparency, accuracy and public confidence in the land record system. The residents have urged the higher authorities to keep all mutations suspended until the four-year record is completed and to issue a formal notification in this regard.
