BANNU: A highly wanted terrorist commander carrying a bounty of Rs6 million has been killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Bannu, police said on Thursday.

The slain militant was identified as Naseer Muhammad, alias Geedarh, according to Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Furqan Bilal.

The operation was jointly conducted by Bannu Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) following intelligence reports about the presence and movement of suspected terrorists in the area.

Police said security teams launched targeted actions in Akbar Ali Khan Kili, Sada Khel, Sadarwan and surrounding areas under the supervision of DPO Bilal.

Search and surveillance activities were also carried out during the operation. Security was strengthened in different parts of Bannu Township and areas falling within the Domel police jurisdiction.

Authorities said further information about the operation and the identity and activities of the slain terrorist would be released after the operation was fully completed.

The latest action is part of intensified counterterrorism operations in Bannu, where security forces have carried out several intelligence-based raids in recent weeks.

On August 10, a joint operation in the Miryan area resulted in the killing of a suspected terrorist and the detention of eight others. District police, CTD, Elite Force and Pakistan Army personnel participated in that operation.

According to police, the suspect killed during the August 10 operation was allegedly attempting to plant an improvised explosive device when security personnel intercepted him. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered.

A similar operation was conducted in Bannu on July 20, when another suspected terrorist was killed and eight others were detained by a joint security team.

The latest operation comes amid continued security concerns across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The province has witnessed a series of attacks targeting police, security personnel and public infrastructure in recent months.

On July 15, terrorists attacked the Miryan police station in Bannu using an explosives-laden vehicle before engaging security personnel in a prolonged gun battle. The attack left several police officers and civilians injured.

Security officials have since increased surveillance and intelligence-based operations across sensitive areas of the district.

Bannu and other parts of southern K-P have remained particularly vulnerable because of their proximity to the Afghan border and the continued threat posed by militant networks.

The federal government has repeatedly called on Afghan authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to plan and carry out attacks against Pakistan.

The security situation has also resulted in increased operations targeting suspected militant hideouts, movement routes and support networks.

Earlier incidents in Bannu included attacks on public infrastructure and attempts to damage key transport links through explosives.

Experts say the problem is not necessarily one particular meal but the cumulative effect of frequent snacking and poor diet quality.     PML-N vows to deliver on Kashmir promises

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said the time has come to fulfill the commitments made to the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), following the party’s strong performance in the region’s elections. Addressing an election rally in Haveli, Rana Sanaullah said the people of AJK had already expressed their confidence in PML-N through their vote. He stated that the party had secured 24 seats in the elections, surpassing the 23-seat threshold required to form the government in the Legislative Assembly. He described the electoral process as one of the fairest and most transparent in AJK’s history, saying voters had placed their trust in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and the party’s development agenda. According to him, PML-N now carries the responsibility of honoring every promise made during the election campaign. Rana Sanaullah said AJK witnessed significant progress whenever PML-N governed both Pakistan and the region. He pledged that the party would launch a new phase of development if it formed the next government, adding that projects similar to those introduced in Punjab would also be implemented across AJK to improve infrastructure, public services, and economic opportunities.     Mir Raza exhumation halted over medical board row

    The exhumation of Mir Ali Raza’s body has been postponed for Friday, his father’s lawyer Jibran Nasir said. Nasir spoke to the media and raised serious concerns over the medical board formed for the case. He said a third notification regarding the medical board had been issued. According to Nasir, the first and second medical boards were merged to form a new third board. However, he said the family does not accept the latest notification. He said Mir Raza’s parents had already recorded their statements before the investigating officer. Nasir said the family would not allow the exhumation to take place under the supervision of what he called a disputed medical board. He described the exhumation as a sensitive legal process. He said the court had directed the police surgeon and police to take necessary action. A medical team was formed after the court’s directions. However, Nasir alleged that the medical board was changed overnight. He said the sudden change had raised serious questions for the family. He questioned why doctors from Karachi were not included in the new board. He also questioned the removal of doctors who had been part of the earlier medical board. Nasir asked why a new board was formed without first withdrawing the previous notification. He also questioned why the new notification was issued during the night. He questioned the role of the Director General Health in Hyderabad. He asked under which law the official became the supervising officer of the medical board. Nasir also questioned how the orders of the Karachi police surgeon were superseded. He asked which order of the health secretary was referred to in the letter issued from Hyderabad. He said the family would not accept any alternative arrangement. They would only recognize the previously constituted eight-member medical board. Nasir also raised questions about the investigation into Mir Raza’s death. He said the investigating officer could not recover a bullet casing for eight days. According to him, the casing was recovered only after the family approached the court. He questioned how important the casing could be without the recovery of the pistol allegedly used in the incident. Nasir also alleged that the investigating officer had not properly inspected Mir Raza’s room. He said the family had lost a young member and wanted the case to be investigated with complete seriousness. He stressed that an exhumation was not an ordinary procedure. Meanwhile, preparations for the exhumation had been completed at the PECHS cemetery in Karachi. A police team had also reached the cemetery.
