“You’ve probably noticed that I’m happily bidding on this special Healey. Coming across such an untouched time capsule of a car is a real treat. We have a passionate Healey community here in the Netherlands (and even a very attractive Austin Healey museum), so I hope to restore this car to its original condition and preserve it for future generations. Kudos to BAT!”

“As a Kia enthusiast (yes, we exist), this is the holy grail. The looks you’d get for telling people what this is make it worth any expense. I’d rather have one of these over the Lotus version, just for that novelty. The stock drivetrain isn’t bad at all, but I can’t help but wonder how one of these would do with a modern Gamma 1.6 or 1.6T swap from Hyundai. In a way you’d keep it “in the family” but really liven it up. I don’t think there’s as many purists out there for the Kia version anyway.…”

“congratulation to the new owner. as mentioned i am the third owner of this car and i am in many of the pictures with the car from the 80s. including pictures taken at Bloomington when the car was awarded a gold certificate. I enjoyed seeing those pictures again, have not seen them in decades.”

“Several years ago (well, maybe more than several!) I was offered a ride-along slot taking notes on the road trial of a 288 GTO which had just been serviced for a prominent collector here in MD. Midway through the loop, which was about thirty miles on various roads, we merged onto a local interstate at about 90 mph. The driver then floored it, the turbos spooled up, and at 90+ mph the tires chirped and the car rocketed forward, pushing us both back in our seats. I’ll remember that, always- at…”

I had a ’94 GT 5-sp. in Teal Mist, and whenever I see one of these pop up on BAT, I’m tempted to jump in and try to relive my 20s. Subsequent cars I’ve owned have been faster and more…”

“This 599 is an earlier production as in the later production for 2007 the ceramic brakes became standard. Also, Ferrari jacked up the base price from $258k to $321k base price. Significantly increased the cost. These cars are appreciating fast. F-1 transmission is a very nice transmission in my opinion even though general public prefers the clutch version. Good luck.”

    “A layman’s view.
In 1987, at the age of 27, I quit my job and travelled to Europe for my 1st time for a 6-month adventure. After skiing a few areas in the Alps, I made my way north, as far as Bergen, Norway. Summer had arrived, and I wanted to have some beach fun.
The section on France in the Frommer’s Guide had many pages on the Mediterranean Coast, but few on the Atlantic.
I decided on a road less travelled, the Atlantic. To my pleasant surprise, I discovered a magnificent area…”

Very cool car. Unique color, mostly see red, black or blue.

“Lets talk about tires. It was noted that I spend tons of money restoring these Elans and then use cheap tires. There is a very limited selection of 13″ tires available. You can’t just go to Tire Rack and get Michelin Pilot Sports. They just don’t make them in 13”.
The original tire on an early Elan was a bias ply 145 series. Very narrow. Although you can get some 145 or 165X80 series tires, I prefer the slightly wider but not any taller 165X65X13 tires. They fit the wheel well and still have…”

Never knew it was anything other than as-expected and normal when I’d wait for my Car and Driver, Road & Track and Auto Week magazines to arrive in the mail to immediately read from front to back beginning as a 6 or 7 year old in the 70’s.
No wonder I became a car nut. It can be attributed to the brilliant authors of the articles written by these guys.

“Over the past fifty years, we’ve owned too many Saabs to count and a few Porsches along the way. An older perfectly maintained low miles Porsche comes through BaT every week. However, those who own Saabs enjoy the wheels off them. A Porsche is often a third or fourth car in a stable. A Saab is the daily driver and gets the miles. That as many have survived is testament to those who love Saabs really love them and will put in more time and money out of love, knowing it’s not a rational…”

“Happy 9/28! I’ve owned many cars since I started driving in 2009, and the 928 remains my favorite car of all time. I’ll occasionally go lengthy periods without driving one (months at a time), and begin to question whether something else is worthy of that mantle in my own mind. Then I’ll hop into one and go for a drive, immediately erasing any doubt that it remains top dog.”

“I own the cloth top twin to this car (same year same color) . As I’ve commented before, other cars come and go from the fleet but not the Miata. Why? First: Bulletproof reliability. Nothing goes wrong. Certainly one of the finest engines Mazda ever made. Second: It’s a total blast to drive top-down. Third: It’s not a 911 or a Ferrari but it doesn’t pretend to be. At a fraction of their cost (and headaches) it’s just a tremendous value for the money”

“I have ridden in this car for well over 500 miles. I was a Speed Six fan exclusively for decades. After doing the Bentley tour in this vehicle I am now an 8 Liter fan over the Speed Six. I regularly tour in Model J’s, Packard 12’s, V-16 Cadillacs, and this car makes all the others look under powered by comparison. Simply put this is the best pre war car I have ever had the privilege to experience. The car runs and drives perfectly. Doesn’t overheat. Starts hot or cold easily. Fully sorted…”

“I spent 2 years restoring this car with the great guys at Universally Modified Performance. Also, a big shout at Extraordinaries Custom paint. They both did a great job. As a partner at Andretti Global, I had access to the greatest guys who know so much about this car. The majority of the parts on this car are original parts from michaels actual races in 1991. I worked with both Michael and Mario to make sure everything was as accurate as possible. It’s truly a big part of IndCar history.”

Rally red, white vinyl top, white bucket seats, sport steering wheel and side mirrors, etc. I was 17 at the time and still have it! Without my father’s knowledge, I immediately swapped the 2 barrel carb for the quadrant which really changed the performance. The drive train is bullet proof. Almost 57 years later and the engine still cranks right up and pulls like a horse! Our domestic cars from 65-71 were fabulous!”
