“One of my long-time car friends is a national champion level modeler. When my wife and I married his wedding gift to us was a custom-built diorama of a C-Type Jaguar at le Mans. Remains my second favorite gift from the wedding (my wife’s unending love is the most favorite).
There have been far too many years passed since I build a car or airplane model. I have quite a few unbuilt kits on the shelf, I need to either get building or move them along.”

“Lauterbach hulls are indeed special as is the family. Thanks for the heads up about the book and reunion. If there was a way to get to the event it sure would be fun.
Back in the 1970’s on Seattles Green Lake were some special times. We would sit on the beach with a battery operated B&W 2 inch TV screen watching Indy and at the same time enjoy the boat races. Some hard core racing with Larry Lauterbach and then Tom D’Eath piloting Lauterbach hulls against John Leach’s Buccaneer.…”

“I love the early SHOs and had an 89, purchased in 92 while a young engineer at Ford. The car enthusiasts either had SHOs, fox body Mustangs or a Porsche (if you were willing to take the abuse from the neanderthal managers who were “only buy Ford” zealots). Once the first year gremlins were sorted, they were reliable (for a Ford) and perhaps the best all purpose sport sedan of the time. “A bunch of years ago (well, decades ago), I bought a well-used but complete and drivable ’66 912 from a garage sale in Reseda, CA for the princely sum of $1000. I drove it the few blocks to my home. Going through the paperwork, I found the title, with Axl Rose’s name on it. Guns ‘n Roses’ Axl Rose.
So I washed it a bit, advertised it in The Recycler and flipped it for $2000. Felt like a genius.
