“I love the early SHOs and had an 89, purchased in 92 while a young engineer at Ford. The car enthusiasts either had SHOs, fox body Mustangs or a Porsche (if you were willing to take the abuse from the neanderthal managers who were “only buy Ford” zealots). Once the first year gremlins were sorted, they were reliable (for a Ford) and perhaps the best all purpose sport sedan of the time. I love that Yamaha power plant and it is bulletproof, making sweet sweet sounds all the way to the little…”

“I worked at a Toyota dealership detailing cars when these came out. People hated the color back then! The dealership marked $5k off all of them on the windshield and had a $500 bonus commission for the salespeople if they could sell them. Now…it’s maybe the hardest color to come by and highly sought after. Interesting how things change.”

“Wow! What a lovely monster! Given there are more dirt roads than paved in Nevada and given the fact this truck has been driven 220K miles, it is obvious that whoever owned the truck loved it enough to take meticulously good care of it. I keep telling myself I don’t need a truck this big but every time I look at the photos I have this irrational desire to hit the “bid” button!”

“@200mph Garner actually drove while shooting the Grand Prix and in the Rockford Files. The F1 drivers at the time said that he could have been a professional driver and he drove the Firebird during stunts (ex. J-Turns) better than the professionals, so they let him do it. Even with 2 bad knees.”

I’m Bob Gunthorp. I have a 1959 190b Binz station wagon Binz body number 1540. It is registered as a 1963. I purchased it in 1984. They are a fun car to drive and they attract attention everywhere that you take them. In 2012 I showed the wagon at the Mercedes-Benz Club National StarFest event in Phoenix AZ. The wagon is a “driver” car and not 100 point restoration. To both my surprise and amazement the wagon received the judge’s choice award.

“I had one of these ‘beasts’ back in the 1970s, nowhere as nice as this Mercedes. I terrorized northern Virginia & the D.C. area for several years…..it sounded like a washing-machine full of marbles & smoked like I was spraying for locusts! But that Benz ran for ever, even on kerosene!
I wound up trading it for a Nikon motor-drive camera. My Mercedes wound up as ‘yard-art’ in Annapolis, Maryland…..but that diesel engine ran for years operating hoist equipment on a ‘waterman’s’…”

“Stunning car! The 5 speed transaxle fitted to Boras was also used in other cars- the deTomaso Mangusta and Pantera, Ford GT40s, BMW M1s.. perhaps others I’m not aware of. A robust unit of considerable versatility, it is still in production in the USA by RBT Inc. The ZF 5DS-25 (its actual name) has been through several revisions, including adding a sixth speed, I think. Its only vice is that it’s hard to obtain and when you can, it costs STACKS of money.”

In 1983 reading an Automotive News, an ad taken out had a Lamborghini Countach for sale in Middle East, 35K US.
Hard to complete the purchase, Mersk shipping, import, bonds, DOT, EPA etc. While this was going,
This dignitary sent pictures of dozens of other Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, Rolls Royce’s etc. sitting in sand cover lots. Even a P-51 sitting in a park. Seems almost like when cars ran out of gas they were just parked!

This Citroen has always been owned by enthusiasts. It was sold new in France and the second owner moved it to the Netherlands ( a Mecca for Citroens)in 2000. He drove it to the 50th and 60th Citroen jubilees in Paris. Somewhere I’ve got a picture of it driving by the Arc de Triomphe. I’ve got a 2” thick folder of service receipts from the previous owner. He passed from covid and I bought it and imported to the states in the fall of…”

“Did you know that the US Spec engine has a 9.5:1 compression ratio and the Euro spec has 10.3:1 ? Let me tell you, you can feel the difference. Also, did you know that the ’84, with it’s hold over “SC interior” is the lightest of the ’84 to ’89 Carreras? That makes this the lightest, with it’s slicktop, and most powerful Carrera in the ’84 to ’89 range.”

My wife and I drove our 1982 181k miles. Sold it in 2015 with 195k miles. Original owner only drove it 14k miles in his4 year ownership. He missed out.
I miss that car! Oh, side note! One day when I took her in for service there was one just like ours on the rack. She had 425k miles on it. Made me jealous.”

“TA rear spoilers rarely fit well, especially original cars, and even more so 79-81 cars with their urethane corner pieces. The later corner pieces also tend to appear as slightly different colors, and tend to fade to the point where the urethane is visible.
This car shows exceptionally well. I personally wouldn’t touch a thing in terms of overall appearance. This is certainly a rare offering amongst later TAs!”

“My dad had one of these back in the day. The drivetrain was something else. We owned it to about 250k miles before selling it on the original clutch, transmission, turbo, head gasket, diffs, etc. It’d been chip tuned the whole time to almost 300hp for most of that.
Not that it was cheap or easy to keep the rest of the car in shape around that drivetrain….but still, this was Audi at its best.”

“To the best of my knowledge all the Super Sprints received 5 speed transmissions. I’ve even worked on a Tipo 4 5 speed gearbox. My own 1954 CSS 01770, still has it’s 5 speed column shift. The shift pattern is no different than a floor shifter, pull the shifter towards you and up for first and down for second and so on. I’ve owned this car since 1976.”
