Gary Hall, whose wife used one as a daily driver (!)… told me to correct the odd handling , you need to change to larger shocks, change spring rates, change to stiffer suspension bushings, change tire pressures with radial tires. “A turquoise R2 4-speed is the quentessential Avanti and very few other cars for the same money will draw more attention.
However, been so long since I have seen an Avanti MSRP window sticker, I’d forgotten Studebaker had the unmitigated gall to ding the buyer $20 for TV advertising and $50 for Metro advertising. Go figure!
I bow to no man in my love for the Avanti, but it was always costly and this just seems to be added insult to injury.

I remember visiting the New Haven HQ and riding a freight elevator to Ralph Millet’s office. We had one tech whose job was engine replacement, and he was kept busy. They are fun cars to drive, the odds of seeing another one on the road rare. This is a beauty, good luck with the sale.”

“I bought mine new in 04 (same color and spec) and with a wife and 4 kids, drove it 210,000 trouble free miles in 15 years making it the best and most dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned. If this truck was properly maintained, 100k miles is nothing and should provide the next family years of reliable service. “I quite like this version of the 2002, I still remember in 1970 when my father picked up his brand new 2002 Ti here in Vancouver. My father’s car came in Colorado orange, it had a limited slip differential and sunroof but only a 4 speed transmission. The next year, I used the Ti for all my driving lessons and tests when I pursued my driver’s licence, even the driving instructors were impressed with the car.”

“One of the things I really like about this is that, at its heart, it’s just so simple. Not like the Italian limited production barchetta cars where everything is unobtainable or very expensive. A T Series MG set up is the personification of of basic spark, fuel, air motoring. Like the upkeep on TD. That should bring it more into the range of folks who lust after the style but have been afraid of the reality of finding mechanical spares. Opportunity rarely knocks as loud as this one, IMHO!”
