Huawei-backed Maextro sets August 5 launch for two luxury MPVs

The Maextro V800 starts at 800,000 yuan ($117,800) in pre-sales, while the V680 starts at 650,000 yuan.

The two models drew more than 10,000 pre-orders in 23 days of pre-sales, with the V800 accounting for about 80 percent.

Huawei-backed luxury car brand Maextro will hold a launch event on August 5, when its first MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) models will officially go on sale.

Maextro, part of Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance), announced on Monday that the event will begin at 2:30 pm Beijing Time on August 5, and will also feature new Huawei “full-scenario” products.

The Maextro V800 and V680, both extended-range MPVs, made their debut and opened for pre-sales on June 25. The V800 is priced between 800,000 yuan ($117,800) and 1.2 million yuan in pre-sales, while the V680 ranges from 650,000 yuan to 900,000 yuan.

Early demand has been strong. Richard Yu, Huawei’s executive director and chairman of its consumer business group, said on July 17 that the two models had received more than 10,000 pre-orders in 23 days of pre-sales, with the V800 accounting for about 80 percent.

Yu said at the time that many Maextro S800 owners had chosen the brand again, suggesting the customer base built by the flagship sedan is extending to MPVs.

The V800 measures 5,495 mm long, 2,006 mm wide and 1,850 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,430 mm. The V680 is slightly smaller at 5,320 mm long with a 3,290 mm wheelbase.

Both models have seven seats and use a 1.5T range extender with maximum power of 127 kW. Their front and rear motors have peak power of 160 kW and 230 kW, respectively.

Huawei said the V800 is the first China-made MPV in the 1 million yuan class, as well as the first MPV with a fully active suspension. It has a LiDAR unit on the roof.

China’s high-end business MPV market has long been dominated by imported Japanese models, with local brands lacking rivals at the million-yuan level.

Maextro was created by Huawei and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp (JAC) and is the highest-positioned brand under HIMA. Its only model on sale so far is the Maextro S800.
