    In response to conversation about the Reliant Scimitar on a recent episode of the BaT Podcast, we got this lovely personal note from @ANCMatt. He graciously agreed to let us share it with the BaT community:
    Longtime BaT commenter and very occasional Canadian buyer and seller here (ANCMatt).
    The fact that the Reliant Scimitar earned time in a recent BaT pod episode brought a smile to my face as I listened. My uncle, a solicitor/country gentleman/gearhead in the UK, had an interest in all kinds of sports and touring cars, and ignited my passion at an early age.

    “We had the paint shop “Marauder” line at STAP I had the opportunity to work on these beautiful cars. There were about 8 of us on 2 shifts that made certain that they were gone over with a fine tooth comb!! Often they were sent through clear coat x2 so they were perfectly done! We would hang a heavy metal washer from a wire inside the car from body shop so everyone knew it was a Marauder. They were signed off by 3 different people before they got shipped to chassis!”

    “At the age of 74 and having owned almost 200 cars over that span, I enjoyed many different cars, many muscle cars back in the 70’s when they were several years old and pretty much worn out by then…still tons of fun, I also owned several sports cars two Spitfires, and a ’63 Austin Healey Sprite, and three Fiat 850 spiders. But one of the few cars I always dreamed of was a TR6. Never had the money when a deal came along. I hope the winner will be as excited to drive this as I would have been…”

    We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We’re back to announce the winner for our Question of the Week, where our champion will rest on their laurels and take delivery of a $25 credit for a hat or T-shirt from the BaT Gear Store.

    Our question was: What vehicle should have worn a turkey as a badge?

    Thanks to everyone who participated. We mentioned that the turkey means so many things to so many people, and this week, many of you saw it as an automotive flop. After tallying up your responses, the Yugo GV emerged as the most-mentioned nomination. BaT member @caymanandwent was the first to mention it, but he—along with runner-up @SteveIOMTT—are both fresh off a QotW win. So we’re awarding the prize to BaT user @Bejarab!

    “Folks, the Gen 5 Viper was the epitome of everything great with cars. Manual transmission, rear wheel drive, hydraulic steering, and beautiful art inside and out with modern day technology. They will never make cars like this again and nothing made right now even matches the visceral feel of this. When you have mass produced 911s going for 200-500k, it’s amazing that this is not going for more than 500k. Those cars are so boring compared to this!”

    BaT High Mileage Heroes, Presented by Pennzoil — Explained

    Go to any cars & coffee, and you’ll hear owners bragging about “time capsules” and low miles. It’s far less common (and often a lot more interesting) to see cars that have been used, driven, and enjoyed. In fact, we sometimes call out an automobile’s high mileage in the title of the auction as a badge of honor. In conversation with our friends at Pennzoil, we began musing about rewarding the current owners of the machines on BaT that have taken the “long may we drive” ethos very literally. We’ll be sending each of them a rebate good for up to 6 quarts of any Pennzoil motor oil, redeemable at one of their local auto parts stores.

    “A perspective: I own a 911sc converted to an ev with a P100D motor in it. It’s the most fun car i’ve ever owned. I also have a beetle with a 60hp type 1 and that is also super fun. There’s room in the world for all types! I’m certain this 2002 has a soul and personality, will bring smiles to all who get to experience it, and would be a blast to drive.     “I was fortunate enough to be able to watch Chuck Wray’s shop prepare a Bizzarrini for Pebble Beach, years ago- I think it was 2003. It came second in the Giugiaro class, which (of course) was judged by Giugiaro; best in class was a Ghibli, which he mentioned was his favorite of his designs. The level of meticulous work and knowledge at Chuck’s shop has to be seen to be believed. As Frank said, back then not many knew that these cars even existed. Nice to see them getting their propers.”
