    Our question this week was: What’s the best body-swapped vehicle you’ve seen?

    Thanks to everyone who participated! We read through your suggestions, pondered the semantics of “rebodied” in a few cases, and determined our winner. The Golf/928 mashup dubbed the Super Rabbit was the most mentioned nomination this week, and BaT user @caymanandwent was the first to it:

  • Understanding baT Auction Success Story: One R8, Hold the Chips

    This Success Story comes to us from BaT member Catman1978, who won this 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Coupe from M.Dolby in a July 2025 BaT auction:
    Like many people, I was hooked on the Audi R8 when I saw it on the road for the first time in 2008. The body lines, the side blades, and the sound of its V10 were amazing. Over the years, I had dreamed of owning one, but life just didn’t align until recently. I’d been watching and bidding on cars on BaT for the last two years, but hadn’t made it to the “finish line” until a couple of months ago. I purchased a 2017 Plus coupe with 17k miles on it. To be honest, I had never driven one before the purchase, but I knew I’d love it.

    We saw more than 130 of you cast your ballot in the ninth round of this year’s Michelin and BFGoodrich tire giveaway, and today the tallies are in!     “In the 70’s my Dad owned/operated a MB repair garage in CA. I used to work with him off/on to assist. His biggest job was a 300 SL roadster a client brought in to have the engine, transmission and differential rebuilt prior to shipping the car off to do the complete renovation. When my Dad completed all of the mechanical work, he asked if I’d like to take the SL out for its first test drive. I was surprised and happy to. I took it easy, went through the gears and put about 5 miles on it.…”

    “These are great cars! I call it my cheaper AMG – 425 hp/385 torque but so much more reliable than AMG and no suspension issues like ABC. I found a tuner in Korea, swapped out the ECU and now have 455/400 in my 19 5.0 – last year for the V8 in the G80. I would say good maintenance, bid with confidence. GL
    I get 24.2mpg at 90mph on level pavement in SD and MT, and the Lexicon stereo system can stand with the best Bose and Harmon Kardon!!”

    “Fwiw, the red key was introduced with the 999. It was for security purposes and allowed you to pair new black keys to the dash/ECU, as the model was the first to come with a factory immobiliser.
    The 996 on the other hand, was still from the simple, analog, old school era. No red key. No digital dash. The only code that came with the bike originally was the mechanical code to get new keys cut, but how often do you lose all the keys to the bike to even need it?
    Clutch plates likely fused…”

    “WOW!! This is my old car that I owned for 26 years and restored during that time. If the buyer wants to know any of the history, I can provide info for the period that I owned it. @IanC – When I sold it, I did include the Jaguar Heritage Certificate with it. Since I got it so long ago, it looks much different than the ones you get today. Hopefully, it’s still with the car. The colors are original – Opalescent Silver Blue with dark blue interior and top. I’ll be watching this one!”

    “What a cherry looking little car! 1963 remains my favorite year for the Type 1 1200 Sedan and seeing one like this, in stock spec after years of well-loved ownership just makes me smile! Everyone has a VW Story and this VW has a great story all on it’s own.
    I didn’t see anything mentioned about a “Birth Certificate” and, while it may be impossible to receive one before the end of the auction, this car deserves one. Per the technical data on TheSamba.com Chassis No. 5241720 would have rolled…”
