BaT events continue to be the highlights of our year! Since our first Alumni Gathering in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood in 2018, our events have grown in both variety and scale. To date, we’ve hosted more than 50 Alumni Gatherings and Meet-Ups, along with many appearances at concours, races, and other enthusiast events around the world. We’re coming to the Rose Cup Races at Portland International Raceway on July 11 for a BaT gathering with Local Partner @911r of the Avant-Garde Collection in Portland, Oregon. We’ll have a large area for enthusiasts to display their interesting vehicles, and BaT staff will be on hand with giveaways and plenty of good company. Please note that you’ll have to register to display your vehicle.
Join us a week later for the WeatherTech Vintage Weekend festivities in downtown Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. BaT is the Title Sponsor for this year’s Race Car Parade on Friday, July 17 and the Road America Concours d’Elegance on Saturday, July 18. This year is flying by, but our crack Merch Team hasn’t missed a beat. A new haul has arrived in the BaT Gear Store just in time for Father’s Day, and we’re excited to show it off!
I hate flying. Hate it. Such a hassle. Fighting traffic to the airport and finding parking. Then waiting in line to check in. Then waiting in another line where they make you empty your pockets and take off your jacket and shoes and belt and put everything into a tub for screening before you’re pointed into the Whizbang 9000 Deluxe Hijacker Detector to dutifully assume the position. Then there’s that one last line to wait in along with the rest of the herd when you finally board the plane. Moo. I’d probably enjoy the experience more if I flew first class but the cheapskate in me chokes at the expense, remembering the Oldsmobile Man’s observation that the nose of the plane gets wherever you’re going just as fast as the tail does so the ‘complimentary’ cocktails and snacks and marginally wider and deeper seats really weren’t worth the extra scratch. But exactly two weeks ago, as I inched through the expansive first class section of my plane then wedged my behind into my more-than-snug aisle seat back in coach I began questioning Pop’s sage advice. I shook off the thought, though. Didn’t matter. My ticket was bought and paid for and I already had enough on my mind as I buckled in and switched my phone to Airplane Mode. I was heading to Arizona again. Down to the house in Sunset Acres one more time. But this time would be different than all the rest. Very different.

“Pininfarina was truly on a roll with these mid to late ’60s Ferrari cars. Some of most beautiful designs ever penned, IMHO. The blue is a formidable statement proving the simple elegance of the design. For bigger drivers (he said looking in the mirror) this might be the most comfortable Ferrari ever built. GLWTA!”

“My dad also has a Judson in his ’56 lowlight and got me hooked on 36hps. I currently have an Okrasa and just pulled a ’58 T2 36hp out of my Brasilia science project. I see at one point in picture 507 this Ghia had an Okrasa setup. I would have loved to talk to the owner/builder and hear their feedback on the differences. Does the motor still have the Okrasa 69.5 crank or upgraded (356/custom) camshaft with the Judson setup? Does it by chance have a the uber rare “high compression” domed VW…”

“When I was President of the Pit Crew at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles I had the privilege of arranging a Tour of Bruce Meyer’s garage off Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Among his fabulous cars (e.g. the first production Cobra) is the SWB Berlinetta that won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1961, the highest placing of a SWB at Le Mans.”

“A V10 Gated Gallardo is a big 12 year old goal for me to own. 12 year old me used to see the Gallardo all the time before the Huracan existed when I was in high school. No newer V10 baby Lambo can replace the Gallardo for being gated and better looking with age. GLWS on this Rosso Italian beauty.”

This collection of five pre- and post-war American vehicles comes to us from BaT seller @McDeeb. These automobiles have been together for a while; they were purchased as a lot by their current owner in 2018, and are now being auctioned individually as the Stone Collection. All were refurbished at different points under previous ownership, and the Ford pickup and Chevy sedan have been modernized. Each is being offered at no reserve.
