This collection of five pre- and post-war American vehicles comes to us from BaT seller @McDeeb. These automobiles have been together for a while; they were purchased as a lot by their current owner in 2018, and are now being auctioned individually as the Stone Collection. All were refurbished at different points under previous ownership, and the Ford pickup and Chevy sedan have been modernized. Each is being offered at no reserve.

Much like the Emancipation Proclamation itself, the observance of Juneteenth has taken some time to catch on. We here at BaT have been observing the holiday for the past several years, but we got our work done early so as not to deprive you of this Weekly Weird and Wonderful feature. Today we’ve got a few bikes and boats, some rarefied fiberglass bodywork, a couple firsts, and an interesting last, among other things.

“I had a new Pinto and within a year I found a deal on a proto turbocharger set-up from a well-known Detroit area tuner. It was comparatively crude to this one without an intercooler and lots of lag. But once it spooled up, it was pretty impressive. I recall keeping pace with a 340 Duster in 2nd and 3rd gear which had the other driver wondering “WTF?!” But the tubing to the intake was a long way from the relocated carburetor and in cold weather it was really hard to start because that long…”

“When I was about 12 years old, my Mom’s cousin had one of these. He would load me, my brother, and two other younger cousins in the back with the jumper seats in the closed position. As he fishtailed down the road, the four of us would slide around on that metal flooring – back and forth, back and forth smashing into each other and the sides. Laughing all the way!!!!!!!! Probably not the safest thing to do, but we survived. – GLWA”

“I had to chime in as this brought back memories. My dad had one with factory 4 speed and (at least) front disc brakes. Can’t remember the rears. Factory silver with a vinyl roof. That 4 speed was a LONG throw so it took a while to get there. A lot of axle hop. I always thought it would make a great sleeper hotrod with a bit of engine & suspension work. I had no idea how rare the factory options were. Who knew?”

“Always loved these. I am the person responsible for that front cover photo of Hemmings Muscle Machines. I was the editor of that magazine at the time. That Mopar issue was a ton of work, but satisfying. Beautiful example of when Chrysler actually built cars. Today, just the Pacifica.”

“@bbilly McQueen rode a “stolen” German military camp motorcycle which was a modified Triumph TR6 Trophy in The Great Escape. A period-correct BMW or Zundapp weren’t up to the physical task. McQueen did all of the riding except for the 60-ft jump over the barbed wire. Insurance restrictions limited that scene.”

“Exact car, down to the color, my Uncle had. My parents borrowed it in August, 1959 when we went to get our first Weimaraner from some people in Illinois. My first dog, remember the trip, I was 4. We had a DeSoto 2 door sedan (1952) at that time, unsuitable for transport of a very large pup!
Paint was dull on his wagon I recall. Downright chalky. Within the next year or so he traded it on a brand new Ford Taunus wagon. (Now there’s one you NEVER see.)”

“Kudos to the seller for all of the pics! For those of us who’ve been around BaT for awhile you may remember the BaT feature “Where They Rust”. This car before the resto would have been an excellent submission. I applaud owners who see a car in that shape and decide to dedicate the time and money to bring a car back to life. You have my respect.
This is a cool build that appears ready to be enjoyed today. It’s really nice but not so precious you’d be afraid to drive it. And the AC is…”
