“I took my driving test in my Mom’s 75′ Grand Safari Wagon.(same body as this car). one of the longest cars ever built.. I had to parallel park it to get my license.
After going through a blinking red light, the state patrol officer said if you can get this car out of this space without turning over any of the traffic cones, he would give me my license.. My father was laughing so hard he almost fell down.
Some how I ended up with my drivers license..”

“The “Daytona 500” connection is quite plausible. Pontiac VP of PR Bob Emerick was a good friend of Bill France Sr., and Pontiac was the official pace car at Daytona for many years.
As part of that arrangement, speedway executives all drove new “loaner” Pontiacs, and many were allowed to “spec’ them any way they wanted. A loaded full-size wagon could have been part of this rotation.

“My grandfather bought one of these new back in the day and got a surprise when he picked it up after its first scheduled service at the dealership. The service writer put “Aspen” on the repair order, so my grandfather asked him to correct it. Confused, the service guy walked over to his car and pointed at the “Aspen” badge on the side of the car. They walked around to the drivers side and were greeted by a “Volare” badge! “Wow! I watched the walk around video. Brings back memories from the Series 1 I bought new in 1970 just out of college, 08877. I recognized every little detail, like the seatbelt holder clips and engine wire wraps. The only thing missing is the smell of a new car, maybe that’s there too. Incredible. Unfortunately I sold mine a couple years ago on BAT. It has a good home and hopefully will be restored someday. This car should make it close to the all time highs for an auction.”

“Ah, the memories. Throwing those doors open to exit on a timed response only to have them not latch and come back on your hand, head, legs. Failing to latch the turret and spinning around on corners… enough to make you nauseous. Or backing in to the ATF with the M-60 not latched in the neutral position and bending the barrel (this actually happened). Maybe catching your boot on the door opening ledge and face planting. No one who rode in one doesn’t have an opinion on them.”

“I own one of these (long story), so I know they are something of a novelty rather than a serious sports car.
That said, they are such iconically cool cars. The grey/white background with the stainless foreground is just chef’s kiss photography. Calendar worthy shots aplenty in this gallery.

“I live in Great Falls and recognized the lead photo. The fellow that accumulated these had a beautiful collection of fully restored cars. He owned several bars in town and had a gorgeous 50’s Corvette in one of them, Classic 50’s Diner. I am guessing these are either donors or projects he ran out of time for. One’s demise will do that to you.”

It has always been my dream to own a Clive Cussler owned vehicle. As Mr. Cussler created my all-time fictional hero, in Dirk Pitt.
To this day, part of my automotive bucket list if I ever had lottery money, is a Cussler musuem collection vehicle. Right after a MB 540K and a Duesenberg SC cabriolet.
As a child growing up, I was a rabid James Bond fan, and had started scuba diving at 12, and become a member of the Cousteau Society the same year.

“Still my favorite of the Cobra-R models. I know the 2000 seems to be everyone’s top pick, but I like the trimmer lines of the first generation SN95 and the ease of the 351W. I guess this one has such low miles it would be a shame to drive it much, but I would drive it regardless.”
