It was just after six on a sleepy Saturday morning a couple months ago and I was driving the Beehive’s snow-white Toyota Cross through sludgoville, heading to the foo-foo coffee shop next to the junior college. The flight back to New Sludgoville was scheduled for noon and I still had to pack and was feeling a little rushed but I made sure I drove slowly. Twenty-five miles per hour is the posted maximum all across town and you can count on good ol’ Deputy Randall to be hiding out there somewhere in his black-under-blue Police Interceptor waiting to nail you for even a couple over the limit. Tell it to the judge, sir. But I didn’t mind driving slowly that morning because it had hit me the night before that aside from returning to sludgoville for Big Sis’s or the Beehive’s eventual funeral it was very likely the last time I’d ever visit my beloved NoDak hometown. Thought I’d better take the morning’s opportunity to check out some of the important sights of my life one final time. Shoot some pics to help my increasingly glitchy memory banks link this place to that face. And at the very top of my list was Old Man Granger’s house. Figured it might make a good Mile Marker story too. You never know.

“Great to see such an excellent example of the car that reset the standard of what to expect from a small car. Not enough people understand how the Accord raised the bar for attractive design and basic equipment. The rustproofing material is most typical of any car sold in western Pennsylvania, where salt use and rust were commonplace… probably instrumental in keeping this car on the road and on your screen today. This Success Story comes to us from BaT member ennisk1, who won this 1985 Volvo 245 DL wagon from JetstreamRider in a April 2025 BaT auction:
What do you hope for when you buy a car that is on the other side of the country? For it to be as good as described, I suppose. I bought this 40-year-old 1985 Volvo 245 to use as my family’s summer car in Montana. I live in Florida, and the Volvo was in Seattle. Fortunately, the seller, @JetstreamRider, is a great guy who knows his Volvos. I’d say he under-described the car.

BaT member Jmast completed an epic 900-mile journey home with the 327-powered ’59 C1 Corvette that he won from Cherry1 in a June 2025 BaT auction, and he recently wrote in to tell us all about it:
The seller, David from Nixa, Missouri, was absolutely fantastic to work with and went above and beyond. I flew into Springfield Friday morning, and not only did he have all the paperwork ready, but he thoughtfully provided extra oil, coolant, and even a spare tire and jack in case I ran into any issues on the long drive home. That kind of preparation and care really shows the quality of sellers you find on BaT.

Part of his deal was to have a Pole Position arcade game provided in a dedicated office at the studio – it was just down the hall from my editing room. I figured out his schedule – while it was around, I came in early before him – and got very good at the free play!”

“My ‘84 was the twin of this car. It too had the blue interior, which I thought was much more interesting than the more common red/burgundy. Worthless Trivia: the ‘84s gained a filler piece at the front bumper which concealed the lower fascia.
To this day that car remains as a favorite. Many fond memories of track days at Lime Rock Park, graduate school in Indiana, that little car followed me around like an energetic puppy.”
