“My first car was a 1979 5 door GLE in this same color combo… it was 1987 in Syracuse NY, so there was already rust starting to consume the rear end of that beauty. I drove the hell out of that car lugging amps and guitars to gigs in high school. By the time I graduated in 1989 the rust won and I sold it to a guy who raced SAABs on a frozen lake nearby… her engine and those glorious front red-ish bucket seats went on to live their best life racing in ice rally’s! Her “GLE” badge still…”

“Good memories on this BAT auction. We had a 2005 Freestar SES that we drove from 2005 to 2019. Had 250,000 miles. Took my son to 1st day of kindergarten and also helped him move into college his freshman year. 3 trips to Disneyworld, trips to Toronto, NYC, Pittsburgh, several to Indiana etc. Was a great riding van, large gas tank, decent milage. Made it from Disney to south of Raleigh on 1 tank. Our SES was the “sport ” version, this is the top of the line. We had some electrical issues…”

“The 8.1/Allison combo makes these trucks virtually bulletproof. Sure, they sip more fuel than their diesel sisters, but the buy in price and cheapness of maintenance and repairs make it much less of an issue. I sold mine 5 years ago and have regretted it ever since. It towed a 12k 5er all over the west, no problem. Uggh!”

My secretary Suzanne softly knocked on the door of my office and cracked it open. I put down my cold turkey sub then took a gulp of my flat root beer and furrowed my brow at her. She quietly apologized for interrupting my lunch break then told me a client of mine had just called and said he was five minutes away and was coming in to see me. Told me she’d told him I was at lunch and booked all afternoon but he’d said he’d come in anyway. Told her he had to see me even if it was just for a second or two because it was an emergency so he’d wait however long he had to and then he’d hung up. She gave me a weary smile then asked if I wanted her to put him off when he arrived. That she could try and squeeze him in for a formal appointment tomorrow or the day after but I waved her off. Told her an emergency is an emergency. Said I’d see him when he showed up, check out what was going on, and take it from there. Then I turned my attention back to my sandwich but before I could take a bite I heard the front doorbell jingle.

It has always been my dream to own a Clive Cussler owned vehicle. As Mr. Cussler created my all-time fictional hero, in Dirk Pitt.
To this day, part of my automotive bucket list if I ever had lottery money, is a Cussler musuem collection vehicle. Right after a MB 540K and a Duesenberg SC cabriolet.
As a child growing up, I was a rabid James Bond fan, and had started scuba diving at 12, and become a member of the Cousteau Society the same year.

“Still my favorite of the Cobra-R models. I know the 2000 seems to be everyone’s top pick, but I like the trimmer lines of the first generation SN95 and the ease of the 351W. I guess this one has such low miles it would be a shame to drive it much, but I would drive it regardless.”
