    “This is a staggering amount of engineering. To the casual observer it will be hard to detect as the person / team that did this, did it to an OEM standard where you can’t tell where the custom parts start and stop.
    Just getting the new long block into the correct position (clears the hood, cross member, firewall, etc.) is hours of trial and error, design work and then fabricating. Then there are all the ancillary items that have to fitted, plumbed and wired, shift linkage, gauges, drive…”

    This article about the Bocar XP-6 was clipped from the January 1960 issue of Sports Cars Illustrated, and initially appeared here while discussing the Bocar XP-7R from 911r in the Weekly Weird and Wonderful a few months back. We found ourselves coming back to that car repeatedly, and decided that Bocar needed to be presented all unto itself. The piece, written and photographed by SCI editor Karl E. Ludvigsen, showcased Bob Carnes’ latest Bocar creation at the time, and included a some interesting background on his now-obscure operation.

    If you’ve been following this site for any amount of time, it will come as no surprise that we and the BaT community get very excited when tanks come up for auction. And if you’re like us, you’re intensely curious about who, exactly, bids on and wins such things (fun fact: tanks boast the same 80% sale rate as BaT auctions in general). To provide at least one answer, we can say that the British Centurion main battle tank sold by @anthonym1151 in December 2025 was purchased by Buycheapcars, aka Westen Champlin, a popular YouTube and social media content creator who does all manner of insane/fun/dangerous things in the name of “redneck science.” He said he’d be delighted to share the story with the BaT community—so here, in all its glory, is the 20-minute saga of his Centurion!

    “Ah, the memories. Throwing those doors open to exit on a timed response only to have them not latch and come back on your hand, head, legs. Failing to latch the turret and spinning around on corners… enough to make you nauseous. Or backing in to the ATF with the M-60 not latched in the neutral position and bending the barrel (this actually happened). Maybe catching your boot on the door opening ledge and face planting. No one who rode in one doesn’t have an opinion on them.”

    “I own one of these (long story), so I know they are something of a novelty rather than a serious sports car.
    That said, they are such iconically cool cars. The grey/white background with the stainless foreground is just chef’s kiss photography. Calendar worthy shots aplenty in this gallery.

    “I live in Great Falls and recognized the lead photo. The fellow that accumulated these had a beautiful collection of fully restored cars. He owned several bars in town and had a gorgeous 50’s Corvette in one of them, Classic 50’s Diner. I am guessing these are either donors or projects he ran out of time for. One’s demise will do that to you.”

    “Love this example. I also have a Piedmont Green Metallic E400 Wagon (more photos on my IG @ptsrs) and can confirm it is a wonderful family car. It also gets surprisingly a lot of compliments, especially from young dads haha. As the other Piedmont owner said, the color is incredibly dynamic. The M276 V6 is buttery smooth and has a good reputation for reliability.

    It was a few months ago that I first connected with @Quartermaster007, builder of pitch-perfect Bond DB5 replicas, about being the fourth subject of the “Riding Shotgun” series. He said he was flattered and willing, but was leaving for Asia imminently and would get back to me in the spring. So imagine my delight when I recently heard from him letting me know he currently had some availability. We did the Zoom thing, and to my surprise, he looked younger than I’d expected (these days everyone is looking younger than I’d expected). Very well-spoken and a terrific storyteller, the Q-man was as engaging of an interviewee as I could have hoped for and was full of surprises, like his love for first-gen Celicas and his successes in motorcycle racing and film production—all worthy of telling in far more detail than I’m able to provide here. Suffice it to say: I hope the highlights I’m about to present reflect a fascinating life that’s been led by a fascinating individual. So buckle up all you wannabe double-‘0’s. It’s time to ride shotgun with Quartermaster007.
