“Exact car, down to the color, my Uncle had. My parents borrowed it in August, 1959 when we went to get our first Weimaraner from some people in Illinois. My first dog, remember the trip, I was 4. We had a DeSoto 2 door sedan (1952) at that time, unsuitable for transport of a very large pup!
Paint was dull on his wagon I recall. Downright chalky. Within the next year or so he traded it on a brand new Ford Taunus wagon. (Now there’s one you NEVER see.)”

“Kudos to the seller for all of the pics! For those of us who’ve been around BaT for awhile you may remember the BaT feature “Where They Rust”. This car before the resto would have been an excellent submission. I applaud owners who see a car in that shape and decide to dedicate the time and money to bring a car back to life. “My father loved VWs and I grew up surrounded by a barnyard of mostly early 50s cars and vans. We swapped engines without any regard for anything except which ones ran the best. This is an amazing car anyway, but what truly astonishes me is the original engine still in place. Incredible.”

“These California Highway Patrol Mopars were special cars. There were over 50 modifications Chrysler let CHP order on each of these cars that wasn’t available to the public. Things like presetting the torsion bars higher to compensate for the push bars on the front and the 413 wasn’t available on a civilian 880. These old Mopar squad cars are underrated and the best driving cars they made.”

In came one of these with a transmission leak. My job clean of all the dirt and grime from years of driving so the mechanics could find the leak.
