Part of his deal was to have a Pole Position arcade game provided in a dedicated office at the studio – it was just down the hall from my editing room. I figured out his schedule – while it was around, I came in early before him – and got very good at the free play!”

“As the 3rd owner of this wonderful car I can tell you it was my pride and joy from roughly 2009-2014. All records and receipts from Esoteric and San Antonio Texas were mine. Car was a later production VIN so had a couple unique and relatively rare options … Rosso scuderia brake calipers … only available in the later production run as many cars had Rosso corsa calipers even though the exterior was spec’d in Rosso scuderia … one of those details that ‘if you know you notice’

“For those who are about to restore one of these models some advice. One of the most frustrating part of the restoration was obtaining the right size rubber souround for the door opennings. Tried twice from a well known UK supplier and they both failed. Found a Cicogna made part at a German supplier which finally worked.”

“I have an old family friend (89 years young) that I showed these pictures to that has been a wood carver all his life and has made some exquisite pieces of animals, custom stair cases, door frames and such using a chain saw and wood chisels and a lot of sanding. He was really impressed and spent a half hour flicking between the photos and commenting on the details presented here with the biggest smile. “My dad had one of these back in the day. The drivetrain was something else. We owned it to about 250k miles before selling it on the original clutch, transmission, turbo, head gasket, diffs, etc. It’d been chip tuned the whole time to almost 300hp for most of that.
Not that it was cheap or easy to keep the rest of the car in shape around that drivetrain….but still, this was Audi at its best.”

“My late friend Joe Sheppard competed against Fangio at Sebring in 57. Joe was driving a Lotus Eleven and won the under 1500 cc class. His co-driver was Lotus founder Colin Chapman. Joe said you could feel the 450S coming up to pass long before you could see it. I hope you have great success with your auction.”

“2005 was a big year for modern Mopar when the Daimler merger enabled the Hemi truck engine swap into a previous generation Mercedes RWD chassis. The Magnum was so unexpected in the industry it was classified as an SUV. I stalked my local dealers in order to take out the first 300C Hemi in town for an extended test drive. I don’t think anyone anticipated the decades of twists and turns in front of the basic package that surprisingly (to me) continued with strong sales to the point it busted…”
