Indian activist held over shocking protest comments

Indian political commentator and social activist T.G. Mohandas has been detained by police over controversial remarks about students taking part in a protest.

Police reportedly took Mohandas into custody from his residence on Sunday evening. A cybercrime police team reached his home with local police officers. He was present when the team arrived.

Authorities are investigating remarks made by Mohandas in a video shared on his YouTube channel. Police also collected information about his YouTube account and digital devices allegedly used to record and upload the video.

A complaint has reportedly been registered against him. The complaint alleges that the videos published on his channel were capable of disturbing public order. It also accused him of creating fear and unrest through his statements.

The controversy began after Mohandas commented on a student protest in Delhi linked to an alleged examination paper leak. In the video, he made offensive remarks about female protesters and claimed that the demonstrations could lead to incidents of sexual violence.

He further made a derogatory statement about women participating in the protest. His comments triggered criticism because they appeared to blame or demean potential victims of sexual violence.

Mohandas also spoke about how authorities should respond to the demonstrations. He said that if he were in government, he would impose a curfew to disperse the protesters.

He further suggested that force could be used if demonstrators refused to leave. His remarks included references to people potentially being killed or permanently injured during a violent crackdown.

The comments have drawn attention from law enforcement authorities. Police are now examining the video and other digital material connected to the case.

Officials are also questioning Mohandas as part of the investigation. The authorities are expected to determine whether his statements and online content violated laws relating to public order and the spread of fear or unrest.

The case has sparked wider discussion over the limits of political commentary and responsibility for statements made on social media. The investigation is continuing, while further details about the allegations and possible legal action are awaited.

Although they quickly developed a close connection on set, Hoffman explained that they did not begin dating until after filming had wrapped. According to the actor, the relationship became official when Parker visited New York to meet his mother, renowned costume designer Mimi O’Donnell. It was during that trip that Hoffman asked Parker to be his girlfriend, describing the moment as heartfelt and memorable. The actor shared that while filming helped them get to know each other, they intentionally waited until production had ended before taking their friendship to the next level. Many admired their chemistry and expressed happiness that the actors had finally made their romance public. One fan commented that the pair appeared genuinely happy together and praised Hoffman for seeming kind and sincere. Speculation about their romance intensified in June 2025 when Parker hinted during an interview that she was seeing someone she described as “sweet.” Although she did not reveal the person’s identity, fans quickly began connecting the dots after noticing her frequent appearances with Hoffman. The rumors gained further momentum as the two were spotted together on multiple occasions, including social media posts that showcased their time together away from the spotlight. Interest in their relationship continued to grow in September 2025 when Hoffman and Parker attended the Toronto International Film Festival to promote Poetic License. During the event, the actors were photographed sharing a lighthearted moment while playing with a puppy, fueling even more speculation that they were more than just co-stars. Despite increasing public attention, both actors largely kept their private lives out of the spotlight, avoiding public discussion about their relationship for more than a year. Now, with Hoffman openly confirming their romance, fans finally have official confirmation that the pair are indeed together. His candid comments have been warmly received by supporters, many of whom have followed the couple’s journey from co-stars to partners. Gracie Abrams credits Taylor Swift for a precious …

Gracie Abrams has never hidden her admiration for Taylor Swift, but the singer-songwriter is now revealing that Swift’s influence goes far beyond music. In a recent cover story interview with Rolling Stone, Abrams shared how watching the global pop icon navigate fame and success taught her one of the most valuable lessons of her career: learning to let go of her ego and focus on the work that truly matters. (Rolling Stone) Abrams, who has become one of pop music’s fastest-rising stars, said observing Swift’s professionalism changed the way she approaches her own career. Rather than chasing validation or allowing success to shape her identity, Abrams explained that Swift inspired her to stay grounded, remain curious, and always prioritize creativity over personal pride. According to Abrams, one of the biggest takeaways from spending time around Swift was seeing how someone with extraordinary global success continues to work with humility. She admitted that the experience helped her rethink how ego can sometimes interfere with artistic growth. Instead of trying to prove herself, Abrams now focuses on making honest music that reflects her experiences and emotions. The two artists have developed a close professional relationship over the past few years. Abrams previously joined Swift as an opening act on select dates of The Eras Tour, giving her the opportunity to perform in front of massive stadium crowds around the world. The experience introduced Abrams to millions of new listeners while allowing her to witness firsthand the dedication and discipline that have defined Swift’s career. (Rolling Stone) Abrams also praised Swift for creating an environment where artists feel supported rather than intimidated. She described the Grammy-winning superstar as generous with her advice and encouragement, adding that Swift’s confidence comes from preparation and hard work instead of ego. That mindset, Abrams said, motivated her to approach challenges with greater patience and self-belief. Since releasing her breakthrough projects, Abrams has earned widespread praise for her emotional songwriting and intimate storytelling. Her honest lyrics and understated style have helped her build a loyal fan base, while collaborations with respected artists have further established her place in contemporary pop music. Even as her popularity continues to grow, Abrams says she wants to remain authentic and committed to personal growth. Taylor Swift’s influence, she believes, extends beyond chart-topping songs and sold-out tours. For Abrams, the biggest lesson has been understanding that long-term success is built on consistency, kindness, and a willingness to keep learning. As Abrams continues to evolve as both an artist and songwriter, she credits Swift for helping her develop a healthier perspective on fame. By letting go of ego and embracing humility, the young singer says she has found greater confidence in her own voice. It is a lesson she hopes to carry with her throughout every stage of her career.

Acid traces found in Mir Raza Ali’s body, police…

KARACHI: Fresh forensic findings in the death of businessman Mir Raza Ali have raised further questions over the circumstances surrounding his death, with sources saying acid traces were detected in his stomach, lungs and on parts of his body. According to sources familiar with the investigation, severe acid-related damage was found in Ali’s lungs, while traces were also detected on his hands and feet. His clothing reportedly contained acid traces as well as sweat believed to belong to another person. The investigation took another turn after police sealed a guesthouse near the location where Ali’s body was discovered. Six people working at the guesthouse were taken into custody for questioning, bringing the total number of detained individuals in the case to 21. Their statements have also been recorded as investigators attempt to establish what happened before Ali’s death. The latest developments came a day after Ali’s body was exhumed and examined by a medical board before being reburied. The second post-mortem reportedly found a gunshot wound entering from the back, along with multiple signs of physical violence. The medical examination also revealed fractured ribs and several injuries to Ali’s head and face, adding to concerns surrounding the circumstances of his death. Ali, an IBA graduate and businessman, was found dead in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area last month after he went missing on July 28. His father rejected suggestions that his son had died by suicide and maintained that he had been murdered. Meanwhile, Ali’s parents have opposed the proposed formation of a judicial commission, saying the police should be allowed to continue their investigation. Family lawyer Jibran Nasir said the parents had conveyed their decision in writing to the Karachi mayor, Sindh interior minister and additional inspector general. Nasir said the family currently saw no need for a judicial commission and wanted the police investigation to proceed according to law. The Sindh government had earlier announced plans to establish a judicial commission headed by high court judges. Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar said the decision was taken following consultations with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, describing the commission as necessary to investigate the case. Separately, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency over social media allegations linking him and his son, Rawal Memon, to Ali’s death. Through his lawyer, Memon submitted a complaint to the NCCIA Karachi Zone, accusing certain social media accounts of spreading what he termed false, fabricated and malicious claims. The complaint alleges that social media posts linked a guesthouse near the crime scene to Memon and claimed that his son travelled to London shortly after the incident. Rawal Memon, who is currently in London, rejected the allegations and described them as an organised smear campaign. The complaint further alleged that online posts questioned the medical investigation and accused Memon and his political party of shielding individuals allegedly connected to Ali’s death. With forensic findings, multiple detentions and competing calls for a judicial inquiry now surrounding the case, investigators face mounting pressure to determine how Mir Raza Ali died and identify those responsible.

Egypt may join Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi defence pact

Egypt could become the next country to join the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said. Fidan said the defence pact is broadly comparable to NATO’s mutual defence principle. He stressed that the agreement is not aimed at Iran or any other country. According to the Turkish foreign minister, the pact is designed to provide a framework for the three countries to support each other’s security. He said the member states would consult each other in the event of an attack. They would then determine the nature and level of assistance required. Fidan said Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants the alliance to expand beyond its three founding members. Egypt is among the countries being considered for possible membership. He said some technical issues would need to be resolved before Egypt could join the arrangement. Fidan explained that the alliance would begin with Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. He said the members intended to take gradual but practical steps to build the new security framework. A ministerial committee similar to structures used within NATO is also expected to be established. The alliance will also have a general secretariat based in Saudi Arabia. Further operational details are expected to be discussed during the first meeting of the proposed committee. Fidan said the agreement was the result of negotiations that had continued for more than two years. He also stressed that the new arrangement would not replace existing military alliances. The Turkish minister said the pact was intended to strengthen regional cooperation. He said it could eventually bring more countries together under a common security framework. Meanwhile, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation welcomed the signing of the agreement. OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha expressed strong support for the pact. He described it as an important strategic development for regional and international cooperation. Taha said the agreement could contribute to security and stability across the region and the wider Muslim world. He also praised the leadership of Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. He said their efforts had resulted in what he described as a historic agreement. The pact was signed on Friday during a trilateral summit in Makkah. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the agreement at Al-Safa Palace. Under the agreement, the three countries have committed to strengthening defence cooperation and collective security. The pact also seeks to promote peace, stability and prosperity. Officials said the agreement is not directed against any country. They said it is based on a shared approach to security and burden-sharing. The agreement also establishes a collective deterrence principle. An armed attack against any one of the three member states will be treated as an attack against all three.
