Nick Jonas reveals daughter Malti’s unusual ‘Camp Rock’ order

Nick Jonas has shared a heartwarming update about his daughter Malti’s introduction to the “Camp Rock” franchise. He opened up about the moment during the premiere of the highly anticipated “Camp Rock 3.”

Speaking with E! News on Monday, August 10, the 33-year-old revealed that he and wife Priyanka Chopra decided to show their four-year-old the third film first. Nick joked that this unconventional approach actually works in her favour.

He explained that Malti has not seen the first two instalments yet, but called that part of the charm. According to him, she’ll essentially be discovering the franchise backwards.

Nick predicted that Malti will likely move on to “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” next. He suggested this reverse-order approach might actually become how many newcomers discover the franchise going forward.

He added that plenty of families will probably start with the newest film before circling back to the originals. Nick said Malti loved it, and he expects young viewers worldwide will feel the same way.

“Camp Rock 3” marks a major reunion for the Jonas Brothers, with Nick, Joe and Kevin returning as Connect 3 members Nate, Shane and Jason Gray. Demi Lovato is also making her comeback as Mitchie Torres, eight years after the original film helped launch her Disney career.

Maria Canals-Barrera returns as well, reprising her role as Mitchie’s mother and camp director. Lovato has described her return as deeply nostalgic, saying the character holds a special place in her heart.

The film’s plot follows Connect 3 after their opening act unexpectedly drops out ahead of a reunion tour. That forces the band to return to Camp Rock in search of fresh new talent.

The new cast is led by Liamani Segura and Malachi Barton, joined by Lumi Pollack, Sherry Cola and Hudson Stone. Together, they bring a fresh generation of characters into the long-running franchise.

“Camp Rock 3” is set to premiere on Disney Channel on August 13. It will become available for streaming on Disney+ the following day, giving fans multiple ways to catch the long-awaited sequel.

    Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination has taken serious notice of complaints by trainee doctors regarding unpaid or reduced stipends and directed authorities to protect the rights of young doctors working in training programmes. During the meeting held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, the Committee reviewed the implementation of its previous recommendations regarding the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). Members observed that earlier directions issued by the Committee had not been implemented in their true spirit and directed CPSP to ensure complete compliance. The matter became serious when a delegation of 14 trainee doctors from Sobhraj Maternity Hospital appeared before the Committee and alleged that the hospital was not following the stipend directions issued by the Ministry and CPSP. The trainee doctors claimed they were being paid below the prescribed stipend amount, creating financial difficulties for doctors already working in demanding medical training environments. Taking notice of the complaints, Chairman Committee Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti directed the Ministry of National Health Services to coordinate with the provincial government and resolve the issue without delay. He also directed CPSP to register the affected doctors from the date they joined, ensuring their training status and rights were properly recognized. CPSP officials informed the Committee that necessary directions had already been issued to affiliated institutions regarding the implementation of the Committee’s recommendations. The Committee appreciated the steps taken by CPSP but emphasized that instructions must be followed practically at the institutional level so trainee doctors do not face difficulties. The Committee was also informed that the issue of revising trainee doctors’ stipends was currently awaiting approval from the Prime Minister. The Secretary of National Health Services informed members about the pending approval process regarding the revision of stipends for trainees. The Committee’s action comes amid wider concerns about healthcare conditions and the challenges faced by medical professionals during training. Chairman Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti also directed that the Committee should visit different provinces to examine the healthcare system and meet relevant stakeholders. The first visit will be to Punjab, with the next Committee meeting scheduled in Lahore. The Senate Committee directed the concerned ministries and organizations to submit progress reports on the matters discussed before the next meeting, making it clear that implementation of decisions would be closely monitored.

    Court sets August 18 for Rajab Butt indictment

    LAHORE: A sessions court in Lahore has fixed August 18 for the indictment of TikToker Rajab Butt and four other suspects in a case involving allegations of sexual assault against a social media influencer. Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafaryab heard the private complaint filed by the woman against Butt and the other suspects. The court directed all five accused to appear on the next hearing date for formal framing of charges. The complaint was filed in 2025. The woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted and later subjected to blackmail by the suspects. She told the court that she had evidence to support her allegations. The material reportedly includes WhatsApp conversations, a medical report and a statement recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The accused have denied the allegations. They had previously obtained pre-arrest bail from a sessions court while the proceedings continued. The case is separate from another criminal complaint recently registered against Butt and some of his associates. Last month, police registered a case after an alleged confrontation at a café involving several women. The same woman who filed the earlier sexual assault complaint also approached police over the café incident. She alleged that Butt attacked her and other women during the altercation. The latest court proceedings add to the growing number of legal cases involving the social media personality. Butt has faced proceedings over several allegations in recent years. These include accusations related to hurting religious sentiments, promoting online gambling and physical assault. He has denied the allegations in the relevant cases. The court will now hear the matter on August 18. The appearance of Butt and the other suspects will mark the next stage of proceedings, when the court is scheduled to formally frame charges.

    JI launches countrywide protests against inflation

    Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is holding nationwide demonstrations on Friday against the petroleum levy, rising fuel prices and inflation. The party has announced protests and sit-ins in major cities and districts across the country. Demonstrations are scheduled to begin at 4pm. According to the party, protests will be held along hundreds of major roads and highways in around 170 districts. Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi are among the cities where demonstrations have been planned. Several major locations have also been selected for sit-ins. These include Qurtaba Chowk in Lahore, Stop No. 26 in Islamabad, Mian Ghundi Chowk in Quetta and the Toll Plaza in Peshawar. Other protest points include Bosan Road in Multan, the Indus Highway in Karak, CPEC Chowk in Bannu and the Chakdara interchange. JI leaders have warned that the protest campaign could be expanded if authorities attempt to prevent the demonstrations. The party said the number of roads and highways involved could increase significantly. In Karachi, JI leaders said protest caravans would begin moving from several locations at 4pm. These include Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub Road, National Highway, Super Highway, Orangi, Korangi, Pakistan Chowk and Sher Shah. The caravans are expected to gather at Mazar-e-Quaid before moving towards Shahrah-e-Faisal. Karachi JI chief Monem Zafar Khan said the demonstrations would continue until the petroleum levy was withdrawn. He said roads along some protest routes could remain closed during the demonstrations. He added that emergency vehicles, including ambulances, would be allowed to pass. JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman had called for the nationwide action a day earlier. In a video message, he urged citizens to join the peaceful demonstrations and asked motorists to park their cars and motorcycles on roads at 4pm. The JI leadership has criticised the government over fuel-related taxes and the rising cost of essential goods. The party says ordinary citizens are facing increasing financial pressure because of higher fuel prices and indirect taxation. Hafiz Naeem also claimed that prices of several food items had increased over the past month. He said motorcycle users and other low-income citizens were particularly affected by higher fuel costs. The JI chief argued that people who do not fall within the formal income-tax system are also paying taxes through fuel levies and other indirect charges. He claimed the government collected around Rs1.9 trillion through the petroleum levy during the past year. The party has warned that further taxation could increase the burden on households if the government does not reconsider its policies. JI leaders are calling on citizens to participate in the protests and press the government to withdraw the petroleum levy

    Syrian court sentences ousted president Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia

    A court in Damascus has sentenced ousted leader Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia after convicting him of war crimes, crimes against humanity, intentional murder, torture, and arbitrary arrest during the country’s civil war. The ruling marks the first Syrian conviction against Assad following his removal from power by opposition forces in December 2024, ending his family’s 54-year rule. The court handed down identical death sentences in absentia to Assad’s brother, Maher al-Assad, who commanded the Fourth Armoured Division. Former security official Atef Najib, a cousin of the Assads, was tried in person following his capture in early 2025 and also received a death sentence. Crowds gathered in Damascus and Deraa to celebrate the verdict, carrying photos of relatives killed or detained during the conflict. Assad and his brother currently reside in Russia under political asylum. Legal experts note that the capital sentence makes future extradition from foreign jurisdictions highly unlikely.
