Akshay Kumar goes full villain, says ‘Haiwaan’ role has no grey shades

Akshay Kumar is stepping into unfamiliar territory with his upcoming thriller “Haiwaan” taking on a fully negative character for the first time. The role marks a clear departure from his usual on-screen image.

The actor recently opened up about his first look and the nature of his character in the film. He made clear there is nothing sympathetic or conflicted about the role he is playing.

Kumar explained that his character matches the film’s title exactly, with absolutely no shades of grey involved. He described the role as being completely and unapologetically evil from start to finish.

He admitted that taking on such a character felt like an entirely new experience for him. Kumar said he had always wanted to play a psychopath on screen, something he had not attempted in his career so far.

He also pointed out that his recent projects have spanned a wide range of genres. From comedy and horror to action and drama, Kumar said he has been consciously exploring different creative directions.

Director Priyadarshan also spoke about how Kumar’s distinctive look for the film came together. He revealed that the idea for the beanie actually originated on the sets of a completely different project.

Priyadarshan explained that he spotted Kumar casually wearing the beanie during the shoot of “Bhooth Bangla” and instantly loved the look. That casual moment ended up shaping the actor’s final appearance for “Haiwaan.”

The director also shared that he had not expected Kumar to accept the role when he first narrated the story. He assumed the actor might turn it down, given how different it was from his usual choices. To his surprise, Kumar showed genuine interest right away.

The film also features Saif Ali Khan, Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar in key roles alongside Kumar. Together, the cast brings a mix of star power to what’s shaping up to be a darker, more intense project.

“Haiwaan” is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on September 11. With Kumar stepping into unfamiliar villain territory, the film is already generating curiosity ahead of its release.

Ben Shelton storms into montreal quarter-finals after Fonseca Test

Defending champion Ben Shelton continued his impressive run at the ATP Montreal Masters, defeating Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca in straight sets to book his place in the quarter-finals. The 23-year-old American, seeded 10th, produced a composed performance to win 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) on Sunday. Shelton has now reached the last eight without dropping a set and extended his winning streak in Canada to nine matches. The victory, however, was anything but routine. Strong evening winds made conditions difficult, forcing both players to adjust their games. Shelton relied on his powerful left-handed serve and aggressive baseline play while trying to keep his composure during the second-set battle. “It was tough today, not easy conditions,” Shelton said. “It all came down to grit. The tennis was not clean.” Fonseca, regarded as one of the most promising young players in men’s tennis, had opportunities to change the momentum. The Brazilian led 3-1 and 40-30 in the second set when he landed awkwardly after attempting a smash, appearing to hurt his ankle. The 18-year-old continued, but his performance became increasingly erratic. He finished with 32 unforced errors, allowing Shelton to stay in control. The American eventually sealed victory on his second of four match points when Fonseca sent a return into the net. Shelton will next face 13th-seeded Czech Jakub Mensik, who advanced by beating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 7-5. Mensik overturned a second-set deficit by winning 12 of the final 14 points, including a memorable winning lob. Elsewhere, Spain’s Daniel Merida continued his remarkable hard-court breakthrough by defeating Tallon Griekspoor 6-3, 6-1 in just 69 minutes. The 63rd-ranked Spaniard had never won a tour-level hard-court match before arriving in Montreal. He has now won four consecutive matches on the surface and secured a first Masters quarter-final, guaranteeing a rise into the world’s top 50. Merida will face American 12th seed Learner Tien, who defeated Argentina’s Thiago Tirante 6-4, 6-4. “This is a dream come true,” Merida said after the victory, underlining the confidence behind his breakthrough season. With Shelton chasing another Montreal title and Merida enjoying a stunning rise, the tournament is shaping up for an exciting finish.

Trump Media charges traders up to $100,000 monthly…

More than ten firms have signed on to pay for Trump Media’s newly launched service that grants faster access to market moving posts published on its Truth Social platform, the company disclosed during an earnings call this week. The service, called Truth API, went live at the start of August and gives Wall Street traders early visibility into posts from the platform’s most influential accounts before the general public sees them. Interim chief executive Kevin McGurn said the earliest subscribers are largely high frequency trading firms, which pay between $60,000 and $100,000 a month for the access. McGurn detailed the pricing during a call held after Trump Media reported a net loss of $238 million for the April through June quarter, a figure more than ten times larger than the loss the company posted during the same period a year earlier. The steep quarterly loss comes as Trump Media and Technology Group has expanded into ventures far removed from its original media business, including cryptocurrency holdings. Despite still operating at a loss overall, the company says it intends to refocus on its core social media mission going forward. In July, the firm unveiled plans to offer Wall Street firms and institutional investors expedited access to posts on Truth Social, a platform where President Trump regularly shares public announcements. Critics have described the arrangement as a potential edge for subscribers looking to trade stocks and other actively traded assets ahead of market moving news. The initiative has also raised legal and ethical questions, particularly around the fact that a company in which the president’s family holds a majority stake could financially benefit from his own public statements reaching paying subscribers faster than the general public. In its earnings statement released Monday, Trump Media described the new offering as a service expected to generate a new revenue stream for the company. McGurn said executives believe the product will grow into a meaningful and durable source of income alongside the company’s broader media strategy, which already includes advertising and digital asset ventures. He added that Truth Media is also exploring potential partnerships with technology companies, news organizations and betting markets. The company reported revenue of $1.7 million for the quarter, an 89 percent increase compared with the same period last year, though the overall loss stemmed largely from declining cryptocurrency values. Trump Media said it closed the quarter holding total assets of $2 billion, including roughly $1.9 billion in financial assets made up of cash, short term investments and digital currencies. The firm continues to expand into new territory, including additional cryptocurrency holdings and clean energy investments. Markus Thielen, an analyst at 10x Research, described Trump Media as functioning more like a crypto holdings firm wrapped around a media company, noting that the bulk of its recent losses trace back to that crypto focused strategy. He said the company is working to diversify beyond its digital asset exposure into areas like social media services, though those newer ventures have not yet produced significant revenue. Earlier this month, Trump Media abandoned a planned partnership with Crypto.com that would have introduced prediction market features on the Truth Social platform.
