Punjab boards introduce digital result cards

All nine educational boards across Punjab have approved a new Digital Result Card System to modernise examination records and make student services more accessible.

Under the new system, boards will stop issuing traditional printed result cards to students. Instead, candidates will receive digital result cards through newly developed online result portals. Students will be able to download and print their certificates from home or use commercial printing facilities when needed.

The move will also end the Rs550 fee that boards currently collect from each candidate for issuing conventional result cards at the time of admission. As a result, the boards are expected to lose a significant source of revenue.

The first phase of the system will cover Class IX and First Year annual examination results. Class X and Second Year students will join the digital system in the second phase. However, students whose results were scheduled for announcement on August 6 will continue to receive printed result cards under the existing system.

Board officials said digital result cards for both regular and private candidates will become available online immediately after results are announced. Regular students will access their certificates through their institutions’ online portals, while private candidates will download them directly from their respective board websites.

The new certificates will carry QR codes and other security features to prevent tampering and allow educational institutions and employers to verify them electronically.

Officials have also confirmed that digital result cards will have the same legal and official status as conventional certificates. They will remain valid for university admissions, employment, scholarships, equivalence certificates, document verification and other academic and official requirements.

The initiative marks a major shift towards paperless examination services and is expected to make the process faster, more convenient and easier for students across Punjab.

    Karachi crime remains high in July

    The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released its latest crime statistics for Karachi, showing a significant number of killings, extortion cases, mobile-phone thefts and vehicle-related crimes during July. According to the CPLC data, 40 people lost their lives in different incidents across the city during the month. The figures also showed that extortion remained a concern, with 18 cases of bhata khori reported in July. Street crime continued to affect residents, particularly through mobile-phone and motorcycle theft. The CPLC recorded 1,846 mobile phones stolen across Karachi during the month, highlighting the continued risk faced by citizens while travelling or moving through public places. Vehicle-related offences also remained a major challenge. Criminals stole 110 vehicles in July, while 12 cars were snatched from citizens. The figures indicate that vehicle owners continued to face the threat of both theft and armed or forced snatching. Motorcycles accounted for the largest share of vehicle-related crime. The CPLC recorded 2,648 motorcycle thefts during July, while criminals snatched 492 motorcycles from citizens. The latest figures reflect the scale of crime reported across Karachi during the month, with motorcycles, mobile phones and vehicles remaining frequent targets. The data also highlights continued concerns over public safety, particularly in relation to street crime and property offences. The CPLC regularly compiles crime data from across the city to provide an overview of reported criminal activity. The July figures are likely to keep the focus on law-and-order conditions in Karachi and the need for stronger measures to protect citizens and their property.

    Pakistan raises power tariff by Rs0.75 per unit

    Pakistan’s power regulator has approved a Rs0.75 per unit increase in electricity prices for consumers across the country under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism. According to a notification issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the revised tariff applies to the June 2026 monthly fuel cost adjustment. The increase will also affect consumers of K-Electric, with the additional charges appearing in August electricity bills. Earlier, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested a Rs1.20 per unit increase for June’s adjustment. However, after reviewing the proposal, NEPRA approved a lower increase of Rs0.75 per unit. The latest adjustment follows another tariff hike announced for May, when electricity prices increased by Rs0.34 per unit under the same monthly adjustment mechanism. Monthly fuel cost adjustments allow authorities to revise electricity tariffs based on fluctuations in fuel prices and the cost of power generation. These revisions can either increase or reduce consumer bills depending on changes in generation expenses.
