Jared Leto faces sexual misconduct allegations

American actor and musician Jared Leto is facing new public allegations of sexual misconduct after 10 women came forward in a BBC documentary titled _Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret_.

The film focuses on claims that span more than a decade, between 2002 and 2016. During that period Leto was in his 30s and 40s. He is now 54. The women allege they encountered Leto when they were teenagers or in their early 20s.

Four of the women detail what they describe as criminal sexual conduct. One woman said she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom when she was 17. Another said Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19. A third alleged she had sex with Leto in California at age 17. In California the legal age of consent is 18, meaning the act would be classified as statutory rape. She told the BBC that when she raised the issue of age, Leto dismissed it. A fourth woman alleged she was groomed by Leto from age 16, including receiving multiple sexually explicit phone calls in which he suggested they have sex.

Beyond those four, four other women told the BBC they received repeated phone calls from Leto that were strange and often sexual in nature while they were still young. They said the calls left them uncomfortable and confused at the time.

The BBC said it attempted to verify the accounts. According to the broadcaster, friends and family members of several women confirmed they were told about the encounters with Leto at the time they happened. In some cases the BBC said it had reviewed photographs and messages that supported parts of the women’s statements.

The documentary also includes testimony from two men who worked with Leto’s band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, for many years. Both described an uneasy atmosphere among crew members regarding Leto’s interactions with young female fans. They said staff observed Leto inviting teenage girls backstage to his dressing room and to the house where the band was recording. “I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big,” one of them said in the film.

Leto did not respond to the BBC’s requests for comment ahead of the documentary’s release. Representatives for the actor have not issued a public statement as of press time.

The program also references the broader conversation around Leto online. The BBC reported it had counted more than 120 separate allegations posted online over the years relating to Leto’s behavior toward women, some of them dating back more than a decade.

Leto is a well-known Hollywood actor and Academy Award winner. His credits include _Dallas Buyers Club_, for which he won Best Supporting Actor, _Suicide Squad_, and the recent _Masters of the Universe_. He is also the lead singer of the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars.

No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the allegations detailed in the documentary.

Fazlur Rehman called for overcoming regional, linguistic and group-based divisions and urged people to move forward as one Pakistani nation. He said the objectives of Pakistan’s creation included an Islamic system, a prosperous economy and stable democracy. Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Pakistan was created on the basis of the Two-Nation Theory but the country had yet to fully realise the objectives for which it was established. He criticised successive governments for making people’s lives difficult and said the implementation of the Quran and Sunnah was essential to achieving Pakistan’s true destination. Harry Potter actress Jessie Cave opens up about fat-shaming she experienced on set

Jessie Cave, best known for portraying Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter film series, has spoken candidly about the body-shaming and hurtful treatment she says she experienced while working on the hugely successful franchise. Cave was just 20 years old when she joined the Harry Potter cast, playing Lavender Brown, the Hogwarts student who develops a romantic relationship with Ron Weasley. Although her character became memorable among fans, Cave has revealed that her experience behind the scenes was far less comfortable, particularly when it came to comments about her appearance and weight. Speaking on the podcast, the actress recalled an upsetting encounter with a costume designer who allegedly criticized her body. According to Cave, the designer grabbed the flesh around her hips and questioned her about it. The actress said the grip was so forceful that it caused her physical pain. Cave recalled responding simply, saying, “That’s my body,” as she tried to deal with the uncomfortable situation. She also described another painful moment that occurred while filming a scene in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. Cave said that someone involved in the production whispered instructions for her to make herself appear slimmer, telling her to “suck in.” The comment reportedly left her so upset that she immediately began crying. According to Cave, her emotional reaction was ultimately visible in the finished film. She explained that the camera initially showed her from behind, but as it moved toward her face, viewers could see tears in her eyes. The actress also reflected on returning to the franchise after gaining around two stone, or approximately 28 pounds. Cave said she felt that the way she was treated changed dramatically after her weight increased. She recalled initially being welcomed as an exciting romantic interest before later feeling almost invisible when she returned for the final installment. Cave believes her appearance played a major role in the difference in treatment, saying she felt that her weight was the reason she was no longer given the same attention. Those experiences have continued to influence how Cave views the entertainment industry, particularly when it comes to children working in major productions. She has expressed concerns about HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television reboot and said she would not want her own children to endure the kind of scrutiny she experienced. The actress is now a mother of four and has spoken openly about the challenges she faced after her acting opportunities became less frequent. Following repeated rejection from acting roles, she explored other creative and online work, including launching an OnlyFans account centered on non-sexual hair-fetish content. Cave’s recent comments have renewed discussions about the pressures young actors can face in the entertainment industry, particularly regarding body image. Her experience highlights how seemingly casual remarks about appearance can leave lasting emotional scars, even years after a project has ended.

US-backed Venezuela talks set to begin as Machado stays out of negotiations

Negotiations aimed at reshaping Venezuela’s political system are expected to begin in the coming days with support from the United States, but the country’s most influential opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, will not take part in the discussions. The talks are intended to lay the foundation for future democratic elections and political reforms following major changes in the country’s leadership. The dialogue will bring together representatives of Venezuela’s interim government and a faction of the opposition. Jorge Rodriguez, president of the National Assembly and an experienced negotiator, will head the government delegation. The opposition team will be led by Dinorah Figuera, who heads the opposition controlled National Assembly elected in 2015. That legislature continues to be recognised by the United States as Venezuela’s last democratically elected parliament. Sources familiar with the process said Washington encouraged Figuera to lead the opposition delegation because of her position within the 2015 assembly. The United States has backed her group’s efforts to reform Venezuela’s electoral authority and judicial system in preparation for future elections that it says should be free and transparent. Machado’s absence has attracted significant attention because she remains the country’s most popular opposition figure. The Nobel Peace Prize winner has been living mostly outside Venezuela after spending months in hiding following the disputed 2024 presidential election. She recently announced plans to return to Venezuela to assist communities affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck the country in June, despite concerns expressed by some US officials about the timing of her return. Reports suggesting that the Trump administration discouraged Machado from returning have been rejected by US President Donald Trump. Since the removal of former president Nicolas Maduro earlier this year, Machado has largely remained outside the political process promoted by Washington. US officials have argued that broader political support is needed to lead the country’s transition. According to people familiar with the negotiations, Machado was either informed about the talks shortly before they were announced or was never invited to join the delegation because she is not a member of the 2015 National Assembly. Despite her exclusion, she has said she will not obstruct any effort that genuinely advances democracy. Machado has stated that she will judge the success of the negotiations by whether they restore democratic institutions, release political prisoners and establish a clear path toward credible elections. Political analysts believe the negotiators face pressure to deliver meaningful progress quickly. They say any agreement must convince Venezuelans that the process is capable of producing real political change while addressing concerns over Machado’s absence from the discussions. The interim government is expected to use the negotiations to seek the removal of remaining US sanctions. Washington has previously eased restrictions on Venezuela’s oil, gas and gold industries after agreements aimed at improving electoral conditions. Officials hope further progress could lead to additional sanctions relief as part of a broader political settlement. Although the talks were initially scheduled to begin on August 1, sources close to both the government and the opposition said they are now expected to start on Sunday or Monday after the opposition delegation arrives in Caracas. Previous negotiations between the opposition and the former Maduro administration produced limited results. An agreement before the 2024 election promised fair competition and full opposition participation, but Machado was later barred from running. International observers and the United States questioned the election outcome, arguing that opposition candidates received the majority of votes while state institutions declared Maduro the winner. Some experts believe excluding Machado’s political movement leaves an important section of Venezuelan society without direct representation. However, they also note that divisions within the opposition have existed for years, making further splits unlikely. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the United States supports an inclusive political process and believes Machado represents a significant part of Venezuelan society. He stressed that Washington’s role is to facilitate negotiations rather than control them. Opposition figures also say US involvement provides reassurance because many political leaders have previously faced arrests and legal action that they describe as politically motivated. They believe continued international support will be essential if the negotiations are to produce lasting democratic reforms.

    Destructive earthquake hits Western Colombia

An omnipotent earthquake hit western Colombia in the early morning hours, leaving destruction, multiple fatalities and dozens of collapsed structures across several municipalities. Emergency responders and local residents are rushing  to pull survivors from beneath piles of heavy rubble. In the heart of the country’s coffee-growing region, Pereira Mayor Mauricio Salazar confirmed that 18 residents lost their lives due to the tragic event. Salazar stated, “The situation is critical.” He addressed Caracol Radio regarding the growing casualty toll and structural collapse. Reports from neighboring municipalities highlighted the widespread reach of the disaster. In nearby Manizales, Mayor Jorge Eduardo Rojas reported three fatalities resulting from the shaking. Along Colombia’s Pacific coastline, the key port city of Buenaventura also suffered casualties. Mayor Ligia del Carmen Cordoba confirmed one death after a building caved in, trapping several individuals inside. Cali, one of the nation’s largest urban centers, was among the hardest hit. The municipal authorities have yet to confirm official death tolls there, though. Mayor Alejandro Eder informed Caracol Radio that at least 30 buildings had completely collapsed. The collapse happened even with rescue crews actively operating at 10 high-priority sites across the city. Speaking earlier to Blu Radio, Mayor Eder detailed the urgency of the ongoing efforts: At this point, two people have already been rescued alive, one elderly woman and one young girl. There are more people trapped, he explained, emphasizing the scale of the emergency. He noted further, We have at least 12 critical points and 25 collapsed structures that we are responding to. In order to handle the overwhelming strain on local resources, the city requested emergency disaster support from authorities in Bogota and Medellin. Cali resident Juan Carlos Osorio described the immediate aftermath while sifting through wreckage: The building completely collapsed. It sounded like a bomb. It was horrible, Osorio told Caracol Television. He added, All of us neighbors are working together, forming human chains. We need heavy equipment. There are many people trapped. The immense intensity of the tremor shook neighboring nations including Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela. However, Colombian officials confirmed that there was no threat of a tsunami. In the capital city of Bogota, the morning quake caused widespread alarm. They’re prompting frightened residents to run into the streets in their pajamas as emergency sirens echoed. Bogota Mayor Carlos Galan reassured the public via Blu Radio that damage within the capital appeared relatively minor, consisting primarily of cracked building facades. Elsewhere, news footage revealed severe structural damage, including multi-story buildings with their outer walls completely sheared off. In Choco province, the governor posted on X that multiple injuries and severe structural damage occurred in the departmental capital of Quibdo. News outlets broadcast images of destruction across cities in the coffee-growing region, known locally as Eje Cafetero. 66-year-old Eje Cafetero resident Martha Estrada told reporters, “There is no electricity or cell phone coverage. It was strong, really strong. Things fell in my house,” recounting the blackout and sudden movement inside her home. Cali’s mayor, Alejandro Eder, re-emphasized that the city was managing major damage and noted that officials were deploying drones to assess structural integrity across neighborhoods. He reiterated that at least 20 buildings had collapsed with individuals trapped inside, driving the urgent appeal for specialized rescue reinforcement from Bogota and Medellin. Residents in Bogota also recalled the intensity of the event, with 29-year-old content creator Valeria Polo remarking, The quake was very, very strong. To safeguard air travel, Colombia’s civil aeronautics agency announced on X that six regional airports temporarily suspended operations. The affected terminals serve Pereira, Manizales, Quibdo, Armenia, Cartago, and Buenaventura, allowing inspection crews to verify runway and building safety. Geographically, Colombia experiences frequent seismic activity because it is situated across three ranges of the Andean mountains. Historically, however, landslides have proven to be the country’s most lethal natural hazards, such as the 1985 Armero disaster that claimed approximately 25,000 lives. Major earthquakes have also left dark marks on the region; in 1999, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the coffee region, resulting in over 1,000 fatalities in Armenia and Pereira. De La Espriella, a right-wing politician who has not previously held elected office, released a video filmed aboard a flight to Bogota following the disaster. He announced that he was suspending his scheduled activities to personally oversee emergency coordination efforts from the national capital.   This natural disaster follows severe regional seismic activity earlier in the summer, when twin earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck Venezuela on June 24, leaving over 6,000 dead and causing catastrophic damage along the coast near Caracas.

Hrithik Roshan recalls father’s financial crisis after Koyla setback

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has opened up about one of the most emotional periods in his family’s life, recalling the financial difficulties his father, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, faced following the commercial disappointment of Shah Rukh Khan’s 1997 film Koyla. The 52-year-old actor recently spoke about his father’s struggles and revealed that there was a time when Rakesh Roshan lost a significant portion of the money he had earned throughout his career. According to Hrithik, the setback was severe enough to create financial difficulties for the family and left a lasting impression on him. Recalling the difficult period, Hrithik said he still remembers a particular morning when he saw his father with tears in his eyes for the first time. For Hrithik, witnessing his father in such a vulnerable state was an experience he could never forget. Rakesh Roshan had produced Koyla under his production banner Filmkraft Productions. The action thriller featured Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles, alongside Amrish Puri, Deepa Sahi, Ashok Saraf, Johnny Lever and several other prominent actors.
