Oprah Winfrey reveals how Beyoncé appreciated her…

Oprah Winfrey has shared a heartwarming story about Beyoncé that she says she will cherish forever. The media icon recently revealed that the global superstar surprised her with a thoughtful gift after receiving a heartfelt fan letter Oprah wrote following Beyoncé’s unforgettable Renaissance World Tour performance.

During an appearance on the Are You Okay? web series, Winfrey recalled attending Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert and being completely overwhelmed by the experience. The 72-year-old television legend admitted that despite interviewing countless celebrities throughout her career, she found herself feeling like an ordinary fan after witnessing the Grammy-winning singer perform live.

“I went to the Beyoncé Renaissance concert. I was so blown away,” Oprah said. Inspired by the performance, she decided to write Beyoncé a personal fan letter expressing her admiration and gratitude. To Oprah’s surprise, the gesture did not go unnoticed.

“She obviously liked the fan letter because she then sent me one of the hats from Renaissance,” Oprah revealed with excitement. “Beyoncé sent me a hat!” The unexpected gift quickly became one of Oprah’s most treasured keepsakes, highlighting the singer’s thoughtful and generous nature.

Oprah’s admiration for Beyoncé is nothing new. After attending the Renaissance Tour stop at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium in 2023, she shared an enthusiastic Instagram post describing the concert as one of the most extraordinary experiences of her life. She praised Beyoncé’s remarkable talent, the production, the dancers and the overall artistry that brought the show to life.

“I have never in my life experienced something as transcendent,” Oprah wrote at the time, adding that the performance reflected a level of creativity and excellence that deeply moved her.

The friendship between the two influential women has continued in recent years. Oprah also attended the opening night of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour in 2025 alongside her longtime friend Gayle King. Both embraced the concert’s Western-inspired theme, wearing coordinated denim outfits while celebrating another milestone in Beyoncé’s career.

For Oprah, Beyoncé’s response to a simple fan letter demonstrated that genuine appreciation can create meaningful connections, regardless of fame. The thoughtful gift reminded her that even the world’s biggest stars value heartfelt words and authentic support.

As fans continue to celebrate Beyoncé’s artistry, Oprah’s story offers a touching reminder that kindness and gratitude often leave the most lasting impressions. For the legendary broadcaster, receiving a signature Renaissance hat from Beyoncé is more than just a celebrity souvenir—it is a cherished memory that she says she will treasure for the rest of her life.

Former Turkish PM Davutoglu quits politics

ISTANBUL: Former Turkish prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu has announced his decision to step away from politics and dissolve his Future Party, ending a decades-long political career that saw him rise as one of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s closest allies before becoming a vocal critic. Davutoglu announced the decision this week, saying he wanted to distance himself from what he described as a “dirty political climate” in Turkiye. He said the move was not a surrender but a step taken on moral grounds and a call for a broader rethink of politics. The former premier criticized issues including corruption, favouritism and weak accountability, saying these challenges had damaged public trust. He also raised concerns over the country’s presidential system introduced in 2018, arguing that it weakened checks and balances. Davutoglu began his career as an academic before entering politics. Born in Konya in 1959, he studied political science and international relations at Bosphorus University and later earned a doctorate in the same field. Before joining government, he worked as a professor and wrote several books on foreign policy. His academic reputation helped him become a key figure in shaping Turkiye’s international strategy. After the Justice and Development Party (AKP) came to power in 2002, Davutoglu joined the party and became a close adviser to Erdogan. He played an influential role in developing the “zero problems with neighbours” foreign policy approach, which aimed to improve relations with regional countries. He served as Turkiye’s foreign minister from 2009 to 2014 and became prime minister after Erdogan moved to the presidency in 2014. However, relations between the two leaders gradually weakened due to differences over governance, foreign policy and the distribution of political power. In 2016, Davutoglu resigned as prime minister and was replaced by Binali Yildirim. Three years later, Davutoglu left the AKP and launched the Future Party, presenting it as a conservative alternative focused on democracy and reforms. However, the party struggled to gain major public support and received a small share of votes in the 2024 elections.

JI announces nationwide sit-ins over rising fuel p…

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced sit-ins outside the chief minister’s residence in Lahore and governors’ houses across the country from August 16, protesting rising petroleum prices and the growing cost of living. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Rehman said the Lahore demonstration would begin at 3pm from Masjid-e-Shuhada and move towards the Chief Minister’s House. He said the protests would continue until the government addressed the party’s demands, including immediate reductions in fuel, electricity and essential commodity prices. Rehman accused the government of collecting Rs1,567 billion through petroleum levies, claiming the amount had exceeded the target set under the International Monetary Fund programme. He said JI would not remain silent while ordinary citizens faced increasing economic pressure. The JI chief warned that any attempt to obstruct the demonstrations could escalate the campaign into a broader movement demanding the government’s removal. He maintained that the party’s previous sit-ins had been peaceful and caused no damage to public or private property. JI has also launched a social media campaign against the petroleum levy, urging citizens to raise their voices against what is described as an unfair financial burden on the public.

Three killed as heavy monsoon rains trigger floodi…

At least three people lost their lives and three others were injured in rain-related incidents across Punjab as heavy monsoon showers triggered urban flooding, damaged homes, and disrupted daily life in several cities. Authorities have placed emergency services on high alert as the current spell of rain is expected to continue through August 5. According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), one man died and another person was injured after a house collapsed in Uch Sharif, Bahawalpur district. In a separate incident, two children drowned in Khushab during the ongoing monsoon rains. Two additional people sustained injuries in separate roof collapse incidents reported in Mandi Bahauddin and Lodhran. The PDMA also confirmed damage to at least one house in Bahawalpur. Officials clarified that nine other deaths reported on the same day were not directly linked to rain or flooding. These incidents included drownings in canals and rivers in Kot Addu, Narowal, and Attock, while four children tragically died of suffocation after becoming trapped inside a parked vehicle in Mianwali. PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa directed deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain on high alert as heavy rainfall is forecast to continue. He said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is personally monitoring the situation and has instructed district administrations, Rescue 1122, Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), and other departments to remain fully prepared for emergencies. Lahore experienced several hours of intense rainfall, leaving many roads and residential areas submerged. Water accumulated up to one-and-a-half feet deep in areas including Township, Kacha Jail Road, Haider Road, and the Quaid-i-Azam Industrial Estate, causing severe traffic congestion and disrupting public movement. According to Wasa Lahore, the city received an average rainfall of 24.8 millimetres, with the highest rainfall recorded at the Wasa Head Office in Gulberg at 66.4mm. Significant rainfall was also reported in Shadipura, Mughalpura, Mannawan, Johar Town, Tajpura, and several other localities. Faisalabad recorded the highest rainfall in Punjab at 103mm, resulting in extensive urban flooding at multiple locations. Water levels reached up to 23 inches in some areas, prompting Wasa teams to continue dewatering operations throughout the day. Heavy rainfall also affected Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin, where roads were inundated and drainage operations remained underway. In contrast, Jhelum recorded only light rainfall, and officials reported that all waterlogging points had been cleared by the afternoon. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from electricity poles and damaged buildings, and keep children away from floodwater and fast-flowing canals as monsoon conditions persist across the province.
