Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday reviewed security cooperation and discussed ways to further expand collaboration with Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in Doha .

A statement by Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said Sheikh Khalifa received Naqvi at his office, where the two sides reviewed cooperative relations between the two countries in the security field . “They discussed ways to further strengthen and develop them, in addition to exchanging views on several issues of mutual interest,” the statement added .

The high-level meeting came amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following the US-Iran conflict . In the past 10 days, the United States has intensified strikes on Iranian infrastructure, while Iran has targeted US military bases in the region . Since then, Pakistan and Qatar have stepped up diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and regional stability .

Mediators Pakistan and Qatar have intensified the exchange of messages between the US and Iran after the two warring sides communicated their responses to a joint formula to end their months-long war . Earlier this week, Islamabad and Doha proposed a joint de-escalation formula, urging the US and Iran to return to their pre-July 9 positions “as a first step” to resume stalled talks to permanently end the conflict, according to an official familiar with the matter .

The de-escalation proposal, jointly drafted by Islamabad and Doha after consulting representatives, called on both sides to halt further military advances and create conditions for renewed negotiations . The diplomatic push reflects the growing role of Pakistan and Qatar as key mediators in the conflict, leveraging their relationships with both Washington and Tehran to bridge divides .

    Karachi -The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain in Sindh beginning this evening. According to the PMD, the intense low-pressure system that developed over the Bay of Bengal has started to weaken. The system has downgraded from a deep depression to a depression and is currently located near southern Madhya Pradesh, India. Over the next 12 hours, it is expected to weaken further into a low-pressure area. The department said the system is likely to pass near parts of Sindh. Under its influence, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are entering the upper and central regions of Pakistan while a westerly weather system is also affecting the country’s northern areas.     Security forces have stepped up intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign, targeting militant hideouts and disrupting terrorist networks in several areas over the past two months, according to security sources. Officials said one of the major operations was carried out in the Khatti Killi area of North Waziristan, where security forces raided suspected militant hideouts following intelligence reports. During the operation, several terrorists were killed after an exchange of fire, while others sustained injuries and managed to flee. Security sources said troops recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the militants’ hideouts. The recovered material is expected to assist investigators in tracing the activities and support networks of militant groups operating in the region. According to officials, the operations specifically targeted members of Fitna al-Khawarij, the term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Authorities said the campaign was conducted with great care to protect civilians and prevent damage to local communities. Security officials emphasised that the ongoing operations are aimed at eliminating terrorist threats, restoring law and order, and ensuring lasting peace across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They reaffirmed that intelligence-led operations would continue until militant networks are dismantled and terrorism is eradicated. The latest operations are part of the broader Azm-e-Istehkam strategy launched to strengthen counterterrorism efforts nationwide. The campaign focuses on targeted intelligence operations against militant groups while enhancing the security of vulnerable areas. Last week, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said security forces had carried out more than 40,000 intelligence-based operations across Pakistan so far this year, with a significant number conducted in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said nearly 194 intelligence-based operations are being conducted daily across the country. According to the military spokesperson, security forces have eliminated more than 2,000 terrorists during 2026, reflecting the intensified pace of counterterrorism operations.

    Two suspects killed, policeman martyred in Orangi …

    KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were killed and a police officer was martyred during an exchange of fire in Orangi Town’s Saadhe 11 area of Karachi, police said. According to police officials, personnel from the Shaheen Force spotted two suspicious men riding a motorcycle and attempted to stop them for questioning. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the officers and tried to flee the scene. The police team responded to the gunfire, triggering an exchange of fire between the two sides. Both suspects sustained critical injuries and died at the scene, police said. A police officer also suffered serious gunshot wounds during the encounter. His colleagues rushed him to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, but doctors could not save him, and he later succumbed to his injuries. Police said they are investigating the incident and working to identify the two deceased suspects. Further details about the identities of the suspects and the martyred officer were not immediately available.
