Claims of disruption in Bhimber

Police say polling remained peaceful

The spokesperson for the AJK inspector general of police said polling in the first phase across Mirpur Division remained peaceful.

The spokesperson said residents had rejected a call for a long march by a banned committee. Instead, voters chose to exercise their democratic right.

Voters began arriving at polling stations soon after voting opened at 8am.

AJK Inspector General of Police Liaquat Ali Malik thanked residents for cooperating with authorities and helping maintain peace during the electoral process.

He warned that no one, including political workers, would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.

PMDC issues advisory for Afghan medical students

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued an advisory for Pakistani students pursuing or planning to pursue medical and dental education in Afghanistan, warning that graduates from Afghan institutions will not be eligible to practise medicine in Pakistan. According to the advisory, medical and dental graduates from Afghanistan will not be able to obtain registration with the PMDC, making them ineligible to work as licensed healthcare professionals in the country. The council stated that medical institutions in Afghanistan are not included in the recognised list of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). As a result, graduates from these institutions will also be barred from appearing in Pakistan’s National Registration Examination (NRE), a mandatory requirement for obtaining a medical licence. PMDC advised Pakistani students to carefully verify whether a foreign medical institution is recognised by the ECFMG before seeking admission. The council stressed that enrolling in an unrecognised institution could prevent graduates from securing professional registration and practising medicine in Pakistan. The advisory aims to help students make informed decisions about pursuing medical education abroad and to avoid academic and professional complications after graduation. PMDC urged aspiring medical students to ensure that any foreign institution they choose meets internationally recognised accreditation standards before finalising their admissions.

More than 20,000 evacuated as wildfires sweep south-west France

More than 20,000 people have been forced to leave their homes and holiday campsites as fast moving wildfires continue to spread across south western France. Emergency officials said the fires have already destroyed thousands of hectares of land in the Gironde region near the Bay of Arcachon, while firefighters are battling difficult weather conditions that are expected to worsen the situation. Gironde Prefect Sophie Brocas said around 12,000 people were evacuated overnight, with another 8,800 residents and visitors later ordered to leave as a precaution. Many of those affected were tourists staying at campsites on the Lège Cap Ferret peninsula, a popular summer destination along France’s Atlantic coast. Authorities said the evacuations were carried out in an orderly manner and no injuries had been reported. Roads and forest areas considered at high risk have been closed to protect the public while emergency crews continue to fight the flames. According to local officials, the fire has already burned around 2,400 hectares of land. Firefighters worked throughout the night to stop the blaze from spreading, but rising temperatures and stronger winds are making the operation increasingly difficult. Gironde fire service chief Marc Vermeulen warned that changing wind conditions could make the fire unpredictable during the evening, requiring crews to remain on constant alert. Hundreds of firefighters, supported by emergency vehicles and aircraft, are continuing efforts to contain the flames before they threaten more communities. The latest wildfire comes only days after two firefighters lost their lives while battling another blaze near Bordeaux Airport. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez paid tribute to the victims, thanking them for their service and expressing support for their families during a difficult time. Residents described scenes of thick smoke, falling ash, and darkened skies as the fire approached their communities. Yassmina de Freitas, who lives in the coastal town of Le Porge, said smoke began filling the air during the afternoon before ash and pieces of burned tree bark started falling around her neighbourhood. By evening, police ordered her family to evacuate to a temporary shelter in a nearby town. She said the family had to leave behind two cats and four chickens because they could not find them before leaving. Throughout the night she followed updates on the fire, watching the number of burned hectares continue to increase. Tourists staying in the area have also been affected. Some visitors chose to leave campsites before official evacuation orders were issued, while others waited for instructions from emergency services. Holidaymakers reported unusually quiet roads and businesses as thousands of people left the peninsula. The wildfire in Gironde is part of a wider wave of fires affecting southern Europe. In southeastern France, residents who had earlier been evacuated from parts of the Var region were allowed to return home to assess damage, although officials warned that strong winds could cause fires to restart. Italy and Spain are also struggling with severe wildfires. In Sicily, a firefighter died while responding to a blaze and another was injured. Authorities reported more than 350 fires across the island, including several major incidents that forced precautionary evacuations. Officials believe many of the fires were caused by human activity. In Spain, residents have started returning to their homes after a large wildfire near Toledo burned nearly 900 hectares of land. Emergency crews are still working to fully contain the blaze. Earlier this week, Spain also experienced its largest wildfire of the year in the Guadalajara region, where more than 35,000 hectares were destroyed before firefighters gained control. Scientists have linked the growing number of extreme wildfires across Europe to increasingly frequent heatwaves and prolonged periods of dry weather. Climate experts say Europe is warming faster than any other continent, creating conditions that allow fires to spread more rapidly and become more destructive. Emergency authorities across southern Europe remain on high alert as high temperatures continue and weather conditions increase the risk of new wildfires.

Kawhi Leonard trade delayed as NBA investigation continues

The NBA’s investigation involving Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers remains ongoing, with the league’s review now stretching into its 11th month and potentially continuing into 2027 if no agreement is reached on the findings or any disciplinary action. The investigation centers on allegations that the Clippers may have violated the NBA’s salary cap regulations. League officials launched the probe in September 2025, and it has since become one of the longest-running investigations involving a high-profile player and franchise in recent years. The unresolved case has also affected player movement across the league. A proposed trade that would send Leonard from the Clippers to the Toronto Raptors has been placed on hold until the NBA completes its investigation. While both organizations are still believed to support the deal, league rules prevent the transaction from being finalized while the inquiry remains active. The extended timeline has created uncertainty for both teams as they prepare for the upcoming NBA season. Leonard’s future remains undecided, with the outcome of the investigation expected to play a significant role in determining when, or if, the trade can move forward. Another potential complication involves the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), which could challenge any disciplinary action through arbitration if it believes the NBA lacks sufficient evidence to justify sanctions. Such a move could further prolong the process, adding another layer of legal review before the matter reaches a conclusion. Kawhi Leonard has denied any wrongdoing and maintains that he has not violated league rules. The Los Angeles Clippers have also strongly rejected claims that they breached the NBA’s salary cap regulations. In a statement, the franchise said it has fully cooperated with the league throughout the investigation. According to the team, it has participated in numerous interviews, provided extensive documentation, and granted investigators access to staff members in an effort to assist with the review. The Clippers also addressed allegations involving businessman Joe Sanberg and the financial company Aspiration, both of which have been linked to the investigation. The organization denied claims that it directed money to Leonard through Aspiration or any related arrangement. Instead, the franchise argued that it was itself harmed by an alleged fraudulent scheme connected to Sanberg. The team stated that, like several investors, financial institutions, and business partners, it was a victim of fraud rather than a participant in any improper financial activity. According to the Clippers, Sanberg has already been convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison, and the organization insists that those events are separate from any suggestion that it attempted to circumvent NBA financial rules. The NBA has not announced when the investigation will conclude or whether any disciplinary measures will ultimately be imposed. Until a final decision is reached, Leonard’s proposed move to Toronto will remain on hold, leaving both franchises awaiting clarity on one of the league’s most closely watched investigations.

Naimal Khawar’s new look leaves fans stunned

Former actress and social media personality Naimal Khawar has become the subject of renewed online discussion after new photographs of her surfaced from a wedding event in Oslo, Norway. Naimal attended the wedding with her husband, actor Hamza Ali Abbasi. The couple was photographed alongside other guests during the event, with pictures later shared on Instagram by one of the attendees. For the occasion, Naimal wore a salmon-coloured traditional outfit. She kept her hair tied back and opted for soft makeup. Hamza Ali Abbasi appeared in a black smart-casual outfit and was seen posing for photographs with guests. The pictures quickly attracted attention from social media users, particularly because some viewers felt Naimal looked different from the way she usually appears in her own Instagram posts. Several users commented on her appearance and speculated about possible changes in her weight. Some went further and suggested that she might be expecting a baby. However, there has been no confirmation from Naimal Khawar or Hamza Ali Abbasi regarding such speculation. Other users criticised her appearance, with some making harsh comments about her face and overall look. The remarks have generated a debate online about the difference between photographs shared by celebrities themselves and candid pictures taken by others at public events. Naimal Khawar has largely remained away from acting in recent years and has focused on her personal life, family and social media activities. She frequently shares content related to art, travel and everyday moments with her followers. Her marriage to Hamza Ali Abbasi has also remained a subject of public interest. The couple generally maintains a relatively private personal life while occasionally appearing together at social events. The latest photographs have now attracted considerable attention because they provide a candid glimpse of the couple at a wedding outside Pakistan. While some fans simply appreciated the couple’s appearance and the event pictures, others focused heavily on Naimal’s appearance. Importantly, the pregnancy claims circulating online remain unverified. Changes in appearance in photographs can result from lighting, camera angles, clothing, makeup or other factors, and the available pictures do not provide evidence to confirm such claims.

Mellencamp shared photos and videos from her father John Mellencamp’s concert at the Hollywood Bowl, where Conley joined her, her family and friends. She also tagged his Instagram account, confirming that “Valley Guy” is, in fact, PJ. (People.com) “First he met a cougar. Then he met The Cougs,” Mellencamp jokingly wrote in the caption, referring to herself as the “cougar” and her boyfriend by his podcast nickname. The Instagram carousel included a sweet selfie of the couple, along with photos from the concert and moments with Mellencamp’s children and friends. According to Teddi, she introduced him as a friend and kept the interaction casual. However, her famous father apparently figured things out shortly afterward. The next day, John reportedly jokingly asked his daughter if she really thought she could hide the fact that Conley was “her guy.” Teddi shared the story with a laugh while discussing the family introduction on her podcast. (People.com) Conley, who is 31, works as a financial benefits analyst and has also been pursuing further education. Mellencamp previously explained that his “Valley Guy” nickname came from his hometown having a valley, even though he is not from California’s San Fernando Valley. (Bravo) The romance comes nearly two years after Mellencamp filed for divorce from Edwin Arroyave. The former couple, who were married for 13 years, share three children: Slate, Cruz and Dove. Despite their separation, Mellencamp and Arroyave have continued to maintain a relatively friendly relationship while co-parenting. (People.com) Mellencamp has also been navigating a difficult period personally. She has undergone extensive treatment following her melanoma diagnosis and later revealed that the cancer had spread to her brain and lungs. In October 2025, she said doctors told her there was “no trace of cancer,” although she noted that she was not considered in remission. (People.com) Now, with her new relationship officially out in the open, Mellencamp appears ready to enjoy this new chapter. After months of keeping “Valley Guy” mostly mysterious, fans finally know exactly who has been making her smile.
