TEHRAN: Iran’s Ministry of Health has claimed that at least 55 people were killed and 645 others injured in the latest wave of US military strikes across the country, as hostilities between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.

According to Iranian officials, the heaviest casualties were reported in the country’s southern and southwestern provinces, where several sites were allegedly targeted during the attacks.

Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency quoted a Health Ministry spokesperson as saying that the death toll had reached 55, while the number of injured had climbed to 645. The ministry described the strikes as among the deadliest incidents since the recent escalation in military tensions.

Officials said Khuzestan Province suffered the highest number of casualties, followed by Hormozgan and Sistan and Baluchestan, where hospitals reportedly received dozens of wounded civilians following the attacks.

The Health Ministry added that 586 of the injured have already been discharged after receiving treatment, while several others were treated for minor injuries and allowed to return home shortly afterward.

According to the ministry, eight people remain hospitalized, with some expected to undergo additional surgeries due to the severity of their injuries.

Iranian authorities condemned the attacks as an act of “American aggression” and called on the international community to respond to what they described as violations of international law. Officials urged global organizations to investigate the reported strikes and their humanitarian consequences.

As of the time of publication, the United States had not issued an official response to the casualty figures released by Iran’s Health Ministry. The reported death toll and injury count have also not been independently verified, and international monitoring organizations have yet to confirm the claims.

The latest figures come as military tensions between Iran and the United States continue to rise, fueling concerns about the humanitarian impact of the conflict and the risk of further regional instability.

Security analysts warn that continued military exchanges could deepen the crisis across the Middle East, with civilians increasingly caught in the crossfire.     LHC warns of serious environmental consequences

    The Lahore High Court has issued a 265-page detailed judgment in cases related to smog and environmental degradation, warning that continued damage to nature could leave future generations without essential natural resources. The court said human activities have pushed the environment and climate to a critical stage. Pollution, excessive use of natural resources and environmental degradation are intensifying rapidly, making immediate and effective action necessary. The judgment stressed that environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of government departments. Citizens, institutions, businesses, educational organisations and local authorities must also play their part. The court expressed serious concern over the rapid decline in groundwater levels, describing the situation as extremely dangerous. It stressed that water remains essential for human survival and warned that its unnecessary consumption and wastage could create severe problems for future generations. The court directed relevant authorities to introduce practical measures to conserve water and reduce unnecessary consumption. As part of its water conservation measures, the court directed authorities to ensure that water used for ablution at mosques is collected instead of being wasted. The court ordered that the collected water should be reused for watering plants and greenery. It observed that even small conservation measures could have a significant impact when implemented on a large scale. The judgment highlighted the strong connection between environmental protection and fundamental human rights. A westerly weather system affecting northern areas is also expected to strengthen from August 1. Several areas of northern and central Punjab are likely to receive rain with breaks until August 4. These include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal and surrounding districts. Southern Punjab is also expected to receive rainfall from July 31 to August 3. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Vehari, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are among the areas likely to receive rain. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority has directed provincial departments and district administrations to remain on high alert. Authorities have been warned about possible urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan. Mountainous areas could face additional risks. Murree, Galliyat and nearby regions may experience landslides. Flash floods are also possible in local streams and nullahs. The threat extends to Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Hill torrents may also affect Dera Ghazi Khan and northeastern parts of Balochistan. Officials have been instructed to complete preparations before the next spell of rain. District administrations have also been asked to closely monitor rivers, streams and other vulnerable locations. Authorities warned that additional rainfall could increase water levels in eastern rivers and adjoining nullahs. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain. People have also been asked to stay away from damaged buildings, mud houses, standing water and exposed electrical wires and poles. Parents have been urged to keep children away from flooded and low-lying areas. People have also been advised to move to safer places during thunderstorms. Water and sanitation authorities across Punjab have been directed to remain ready throughout the forecast period. Officials have been asked to keep drainage stations, pumps and machinery fully operational. Field teams are also expected to remain deployed during rainfall. Construction sites have been ordered to take additional safety measures. Open pits should be covered or properly cordoned off. Warning signs and barriers should also be installed. The weather warning comes as Ferozewala is already facing serious flooding. Dozens of villages and settlements have been submerged after an embankment along the seasonal Bhir Nullah was breached. The flooding has affected several residential communities. Water levels have continued to rise in some areas after further rainfall.
