TEHRAN: Iran’s Ministry of Health has claimed that at least 55 people were killed and 645 others injured in the latest wave of US military strikes across the country, as hostilities between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.

According to Iranian officials, the heaviest casualties were reported in the country’s southern and southwestern provinces, where several sites were allegedly targeted during the attacks.

Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency quoted a Health Ministry spokesperson as saying that the death toll had reached 55, while the number of injured had climbed to 645. The ministry described the strikes as among the deadliest incidents since the recent escalation in military tensions.

Officials said Khuzestan Province suffered the highest number of casualties, followed by Hormozgan and Sistan and Baluchestan, where hospitals reportedly received dozens of wounded civilians following the attacks.

The Health Ministry added that 586 of the injured have already been discharged after receiving treatment, while several others were treated for minor injuries and allowed to return home shortly afterward.

According to the ministry, eight people remain hospitalized, with some expected to undergo additional surgeries due to the severity of their injuries.

Iranian authorities condemned the attacks as an act of “American aggression” and called on the international community to respond to what they described as violations of international law. Officials urged global organizations to investigate the reported strikes and their humanitarian consequences.

As of the time of publication, the United States had not issued an official response to the casualty figures released by Iran’s Health Ministry. The reported death toll and injury count have also not been independently verified, and international monitoring organizations have yet to confirm the claims.

The latest figures come as military tensions between Iran and the United States continue to rise, fueling concerns about the humanitarian impact of the conflict and the risk of further regional instability.

Security analysts warn that continued military exchanges could deepen the crisis across the Middle East, with civilians increasingly caught in the crossfire. They say the absence of verified information from independent sources makes it difficult to assess the full scale of the damage, but the competing claims from both sides underscore the rapidly evolving nature of the conflict.

With diplomatic efforts showing little sign of progress, observers fear that further escalation could lead to additional civilian casualties and heightened security risks across the region, while the international community continues to monitor developments closely.

    LONDON:  Senator Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum (HI(M)), President of the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society, called for greater respect for international law, dialogue under the umbrella of the United Nations and enhanced cooperation among Muslim countries to address global security challenges, while Forum for International Relations Development (FIRD) Chairman Toaha Qureshi reaffirmed support for Pakistan’s armed forces, saying they remained the country’s defenders and that the Field Marshal had enhanced Pakistan’s reputation on the global stage. Addressing the Second International Conference on Global Peace, organised by FIRD in London, Senator Abdul Qayyum said lasting peace could only be achieved through diplomacy and adherence to international law. “Respect for international law and pursuing dialogue as a strategy for peace under the umbrella of the United Nations can help resolve even the most complex global challenges. Destructive wars can only lead to catastrophic consequences and bring suffering to humanity as a whole,” he said. During his address, the senator argued that the post-Cold War unipolar world had witnessed repeated violations of international law and human rights, weakening the effectiveness of institutions such as the United Nations and the International Court of Justice. Discussing global security, he said colonialism had evolved into neo-colonialism in the modern era and referred to the establishment of US military bases around the world. He also cited recent developments in the Middle East, saying they had highlighted the importance of national self-reliance in defence and strategic planning. Senator Abdul Qayyum said vulnerable states increasingly needed to strengthen their own defence capabilities while developing strategic partnerships through mutual defence agreements. Referring to recent tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States, he said the evolving regional security environment had prompted Gulf countries to reassess their strategic priorities and seek greater autonomy. He said Pakistan, with its strategic geographical location and strong defence capability, could play a constructive role in promoting closer cooperation among Muslim-majority countries. He added that greater unity among Muslim states, beyond sectarian divisions, could strengthen regional stability and collective security. The senator warned that unilateral actions and disregard for international law risked pushing the world towards another major global conflict. Referring to former US President Richard Nixon’s geopolitical doctrine, he said pragmatic diplomacy, a balance of power and economic stability remained essential foundations for international peace. Addressing interfaith harmony, Senator Abdul Qayyum said dialogue and mutual respect remained essential to strengthening relations between different faith communities. He expressed concern over the rise of Islamophobia and called for greater engagement, education and cooperation to counter prejudice and promote peaceful coexistence. Speaking at the conference, FIRD Chairman Toaha Qureshi said Pakistan’s armed forces were the guardians of the country’s sovereignty and deserved the nation’s continued support. “Pakistan’s armed forces are the protectors of the country. We need strong armed forces, and it is necessary that we continue to support this institution,” he said. Qureshi added that Pakistan’s Field Marshal had earned the country greater international recognition and enhanced its standing through his leadership. The conference also heard from educationist and businessman Mian Muhammad Jehangir, who stressed the importance of meaningful education in shaping future generations and driving national development. He said Pakistan’s youth possessed immense talent and potential, adding that investment in quality education, skills development and character-building was essential for the country’s progress.     NCCIA Punjab arrests 4 in cybercrime crackdown

    LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Punjab has arrested four suspects during coordinated enforcement operations conducted in Lahore and Multan as part of its ongoing campaign against serious cybercrime. The cases involve the alleged trafficking of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), online harassment of a minor, cyber blackmail, and the unlawful sharing of intimate digital content. In the most significant operation, NCCIA investigators in Lahore arrested a suspect accused of possessing and distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material, including illegal content depicting the sexual abuse of children and animals. According to investigators, the material was allegedly circulated through online platforms for commercial purposes. Mobile devices and other electronic evidence were seized during the operation and have been sent for forensic examination. Investigators are working to identify additional victims, trace the origin of the material, and determine whether other individuals were involved. Child Sexual Abuse Material is regarded worldwide as one of the most serious forms of online criminal exploitation. The production, possession, distribution, or sale of such material is treated as a major criminal offence by law enforcement agencies across the globe. In a separate operation in Lahore, NCCIA officers arrested another suspect accused of using social media to harass and intimidate a minor. Investigators collected digital evidence that will form part of the continuing criminal investigation. In Multan, two additional suspects were taken into custody in separate investigations involving the alleged blackmail of female victims through private photographs and videos. Investigators allege that the suspects used WhatsApp and other online platforms to issue threats and unlawfully share sensitive digital content. Electronic devices and other evidentiary material were recovered during the operations, and forensic analysis is continuing. Director NCCIA Punjab Muhammad Ali Wasim said the agency will continue to pursue individuals involved in child exploitation, cyber extortion, online harassment, and related offences. He said crimes involving Child Sexual Abuse Material demand an immediate and uncompromising law enforcement response because of the serious harm they inflict on children. He also encouraged parents and members of the public to remain alert, supervise children’s online activity, and promptly report suspected cybercrime so that timely legal action can be taken.
