Iran says US strikes kill 55, injure 645 as confli…

TEHRAN: Iran’s Ministry of Health has claimed that at least 55 people were killed and 645 others injured in the latest wave of US military strikes across the country, as hostilities between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.

According to Iranian officials, the heaviest casualties were reported in the country’s southern and southwestern provinces, where several sites were allegedly targeted during the attacks.

Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency quoted a Health Ministry spokesperson as saying that the death toll had reached 55, while the number of injured had climbed to 645. The ministry described the strikes as among the deadliest incidents since the recent escalation in military tensions.

Officials said Khuzestan Province suffered the highest number of casualties, followed by Hormozgan and Sistan and Baluchestan, where hospitals reportedly received dozens of wounded civilians following the attacks.

The Health Ministry added that 586 of the injured have already been discharged after receiving treatment, while several others were treated for minor injuries and allowed to return home shortly afterward.

According to the ministry, eight people remain hospitalized, with some expected to undergo additional surgeries due to the severity of their injuries.

Iranian authorities condemned the attacks as an act of “American aggression” and called on the international community to respond to what they described as violations of international law. Officials urged global organizations to investigate the reported strikes and their humanitarian consequences.

As of the time of publication, the United States had not issued an official response to the casualty figures released by Iran’s Health Ministry. The reported death toll and injury count have also not been independently verified, and international monitoring organizations have yet to confirm the claims.

The latest figures come as military tensions between Iran and the United States continue to rise, fueling concerns about the humanitarian impact of the conflict and the risk of further regional instability.

Security analysts warn that continued military exchanges could deepen the crisis across the Middle East, with civilians increasingly caught in the crossfire. They say the absence of verified information from independent sources makes it difficult to assess the full scale of the damage, but the competing claims from both sides underscore the rapidly evolving nature of the conflict.

With diplomatic efforts showing little sign of progress, observers fear that further escalation could lead to additional civilian casualties and heightened security risks across the region, while the international community continues to monitor developments closely.

Olivia Rodrigo criticizes Trump over Planned Paren…

Olivia Rodrigo has once again spoken out on a political issue, criticizing US President Donald Trump over recent changes to federal funding for Planned Parenthood. The Grammy-winning singer joined a new awareness campaign highlighting the impact that the funding cuts have had on healthcare clinics across the United States. The campaign focuses on the consequences of legislation signed by President Trump that ended federal funding for Planned Parenthood, one of the country’s largest providers of reproductive and preventive healthcare services. According to the campaign, nearly 30 Planned Parenthood health centers have closed since the law took effect, raising concerns about access to medical care in several communities. In the campaign video, Rodrigo voices support for people who rely on the organization’s services. She argues that the closures could make it more difficult for many Americans to receive routine healthcare, including cancer screenings, birth control, sexually transmitted infection testing, and other preventive medical services. The singer has been outspoken on reproductive rights in recent years. She has previously used concerts and public appearances to encourage civic engagement and has supported organizations that advocate for reproductive healthcare access. Her latest campaign continues that advocacy, drawing attention to the real-world effects of policy decisions on patients and healthcare providers. Supporters of Planned Parenthood say the funding cuts will disproportionately affect low-income families and people living in rural areas where healthcare options are already limited. They argue that the organization provides a wide range of essential medical services beyond abortion care and plays an important role in preventive health. Meanwhile, supporters of the Trump administration have defended the funding changes, saying federal money should not go to organizations connected with abortion services. They argue that healthcare funding should instead be directed toward other medical providers that do not perform or support abortions. The debate has once again highlighted the deep political divide in the United States over reproductive healthcare. While advocacy groups continue to challenge the funding changes, supporters of the legislation maintain that the policy reflects their longstanding position on the use of taxpayer money. Rodrigo’s participation in the campaign has sparked widespread discussion online. Many fans praised the singer for using her platform to speak on an issue she believes is important, while others criticized her decision to enter another political debate. As with many celebrity statements on public policy, reactions have been sharply divided across social media. Although the discussion surrounding Planned Parenthood funding remains highly controversial, Olivia Rodrigo’s latest campaign has brought renewed attention to the issue. By speaking out, the singer has added her voice to an ongoing national conversation about healthcare access, government funding, and the role public figures play in shaping awareness of major social and political issues.

Nine-member team conquers 6,050m Thalo Zom

PESHAWAR: A nine-member mountaineering team has successfully climbed the 6,050-metre Thalo Zom peak in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The achievement is being seen as an important milestone for mountaineering and adventure tourism in the province. The team completed the difficult expedition after spending eight days on challenging mountain routes. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority said Thalo Zom is one of the most difficult and less frequently climbed peaks in the Hindu Kush mountain range. Its difficult terrain makes the climb demanding even for experienced mountaineers. The expedition started on July 9. The team continued its journey through difficult mountainous terrain before reaching the summit on July 17. After reaching the top, the mountaineers raised the national flag. The moment marked the successful completion of a challenging expedition in one of the region’s difficult mountain areas. The climbers had to pass through difficult routes in Kumrat and Chitral during the expedition. The journey involved steep and rugged terrain. The team also crossed glaciers and areas containing deep cracks in the ice. Glacial crevasses can make high-altitude expeditions particularly dangerous. Mountaineers must carefully choose their routes while crossing such areas. The difficult conditions required careful planning and sustained effort from the team. The eight-day expedition tested the climbers as they moved through remote and challenging parts of the Hindu Kush. The successful ascent also highlights the potential of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for adventure tourism. The province is home to several high-altitude mountains and remote valleys. The region’s mountainous landscape attracts climbers and adventure enthusiasts. However, many peaks remain difficult to access because of their rugged terrain and limited routes. The Tourism Authority said Thalo Zom has a notable history in international mountaineering. Australian climbers first reached the summit in 1971. The peak was climbed again in 2019 by Italian mountaineers. The latest expedition adds another successful ascent to the mountain’s history. The achievement also draws attention to the broader tourism potential of Kumrat and Chitral. Both areas are known for their mountainous landscapes and challenging terrain. Successful mountaineering expeditions can help promote lesser-known destinations among domestic and international adventure tourists. They can also bring greater attention to the natural attractions of the province. The latest climb demonstrates the determination and endurance required to reach high-altitude peaks. The team had to overcome glaciers, steep routes and dangerous ice formations during the journey. The successful ascent of Thalo Zom is therefore more than a mountaineering achievement. It also showcases the natural beauty and adventure tourism potential of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The dual catalyst of changing climate and human

France is confronting unprecedented environmental devastation as wildfires swept across the nation’s forests and countryside. The fire burned over 300,000 acres. A level of destruction not witnessed in the country since the aftermath of the Second World War. The communities assess ruined homes, scorched ecosystems and degraded air quality. The French public and authorities are left with an urgent question: what is driving these catastrophic blazes? A Perfect Storm of Climate Conditions At the root of the crisis is a changing global climate driven by greenhouse gas emissions. Rising regional temperatures, combined with prolonged dry spells, have transformed expansive tracts of woodland into dry tinderbox environments. In these prolonged heatwaves, humidity drops sharply, rendering vegetation prone to rapid ignition. Under such extreme drought, even a minor spark can ignite an uncontrollable inferno within minutes. Environmental scientists emphasize that while climate conditions establish the background vulnerability, they do not act alone. Heat and drought create the ideal environment for fires to spread, but the vast majority require an initial ignition source. The Human Factor: Negligence, Accidents and Arson Official records in France reveal a shocking pattern. Approximately nine out of every ten wildfires originate from human activity.  Public concern often focuses on intentional acts of arson. However, investigators note that deliberate fire-setting accounts for only a fraction of total blazes. The overwhelming majority stem from everyday human negligence or accidents. Common accidental triggers include: Discarded Cigarettes: Unextinguished butts tossed from vehicles or thrown onto dry brush. Fire investigators refer to the rule of 30 conditions where ambient temperatures exceed 30°C (86°F), humidity drops below 30%, wind speeds stay below 30 km/h. A remaining cigarette segment retains at least 30% of its length. Under severe drought, these thresholds lower drastically, making ignition almost immediate. Infrastructure and Equipment: Sparks generated by heavy machinery, ongoing construction projects, or faulty electrical equipment operating near dry grass. Recreational Fires: Unattended outdoor barbecues and small campfires in or around forested boundaries. In response to the scale of destruction, the French Interior Ministry has taken aggressive legal action, detaining over 400 individuals suspected of initiating blazes either through reckless behavior or intentional acts. Among those apprehended are scores of minors, as well as individuals facing immediate judicial sentencing for setting fires in protected woodland zones. Mental health professionals and legal experts point out that intentional fire-starters typically fall into distinct categories, including careless individuals, opportunistic actors seeking financial gain (such as insurance payouts), pyromaniacs, or individuals seeking recognition during emergency responses. Looking Ahead: Reconstruction and Forest Adaptation The unprecedented severity of the blazes has sparked intense public debate over state readiness and resource allocation. Critics question whether preventive measures and response mechanisms were adequate for a summer marked by continuous heatwaves. Addressing the national crisis, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the necessity of adapting national forestry policy to match evolving climate realities. Rebuilding efforts will require replanting woodlands with more fire-resistant tree species rather than simply restoring vulnerable pine monocultures. As emergency crews continue to monitor remaining hotspots and brace for subsequent heatwaves, France faces a long-term strategy shift: balancing immediate enforcement against negligence with broad ecological adaptation.

TikTok star Cesar Gastelum shot dead during livestream in Mexico

Mexican social media influencer Cesar Gastelum was shot and killed while livestreaming in Culiacan. The city sits in the northwestern state of Sinaloa, a region long troubled by unrest. Gastelum had built a following of nearly 600,000 people on TikTok. He was known mainly for his comedy content and light-hearted videos. At the time of the attack, he was streaming live outside a fast-food restaurant with friends. Footage from the livestream showed two helmeted individuals approaching on a motorcycle. The driver reportedly opened fire directly at Gastelum during the broadcast. The attack unfolded in real time as viewers watched the stream online. A security official in Sinaloa confirmed Gastelum’s death shortly after the incident. Authorities said a major security operation was launched in response. Details about a possible motive have not yet been released publicly. According to Reuters, the killing adds to a pattern of violence in the region. Culiacan, the state capital, has seen ongoing clashes between rival criminal groups. These factions have been fighting for territorial control across the city for some time. Sinaloa has repeatedly made headlines in recent years over organised crime activity. The state is widely associated with one of Mexico’s most powerful drug cartels. Public killings and targeted attacks have periodically disrupted daily life in the region. The incident has drawn comparisons to another high-profile case from last year. In May 2025, Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was killed in a similar way. She was shot while livestreaming from a salon in Zapopan, Jalisco. Marquez, who was 23 at the time, was killed after a man entered the salon. Prosecutors said he opened fire before fleeing the scene afterward. Her case was later investigated using femicide protocols by local authorities. Both cases have renewed concern over the safety risks facing content creators in Mexico. Livestreaming has increasingly placed influencers in vulnerable, exposed situations during public appearances. Digital rights groups have previously called for stronger protections for online creators. Authorities have not indicated whether the two cases are connected in any way. Investigations into Gastelum’s death remain ongoing as officials gather further information. No arrests have been announced at this time.
