Ferozewala submerged as monsoon rains intensify

Flooding has intensified in several parts of Ferozewala as hundreds of families remain stranded in submerged areas. The situation has become more concerning with another spell of monsoon rain expected across Punjab.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across Punjab and other parts of the country from July 29 to August 5.

Several districts could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period. The new weather system may increase the risk of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides.

Weather officials said monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to enter upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly weather system affecting northern areas is also expected to strengthen from August 1.

Several areas of northern and central Punjab are likely to receive rain with breaks until August 4. These include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal and surrounding districts.

Southern Punjab is also expected to receive rainfall from July 31 to August 3. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Vehari, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are among the areas likely to receive rain.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority has directed provincial departments and district administrations to remain on high alert.

Authorities have been warned about possible urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan.

Mountainous areas could face additional risks. Murree, Galliyat and nearby regions may experience landslides.

Flash floods are also possible in local streams and nullahs. The threat extends to Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Hill torrents may also affect Dera Ghazi Khan and northeastern parts of Balochistan.

Officials have been instructed to complete preparations before the next spell of rain. District administrations have also been asked to closely monitor rivers, streams and other vulnerable locations.

Authorities warned that additional rainfall could increase water levels in eastern rivers and adjoining nullahs.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain. People have also been asked to stay away from damaged buildings, mud houses, standing water and exposed electrical wires and poles.

Parents have been urged to keep children away from flooded and low-lying areas. People have also been advised to move to safer places during thunderstorms.

Water and sanitation authorities across Punjab have been directed to remain ready throughout the forecast period.

Officials have been asked to keep drainage stations, pumps and machinery fully operational. Field teams are also expected to remain deployed during rainfall.

Construction sites have been ordered to take additional safety measures. Open pits should be covered or properly cordoned off. Warning signs and barriers should also be installed.

The weather warning comes as Ferozewala is already facing serious flooding.

Dozens of villages and settlements have been submerged after an embankment along the seasonal Bhir Nullah was breached.

The flooding has affected several residential communities. Water levels have continued to rise in some areas after further rainfall.

According to the mother, he offered to take the little girl for a walk, something he had done on previous occasions. When he brought the child back, the toddler was reportedly unconscious. The mother said her sister informed her that the child had been vomiting. Concerned, she took her to a nearby clinic, where doctors initially suspected that the vomiting might have been caused by spoiled milk. She returned home, gave her daughter oral rehydration solution (ORS), and put her to sleep. However, while changing the child’s diaper, the mother noticed bleeding. She recalled that her daughter had stopped responding, her heartbeat appeared to have slowed, and her lips had turned dark. Realising the seriousness of the situation, she desperately asked for help in taking the child to the hospital. The grieving mother said she had to take her daughter to the hospital herself because no one came forward to assist her. She also revealed that she does not live with her husband and claimed that very few relatives stood by her during the tragedy. According to her, even some close family members did not attend her daughter’s funeral. She further shared that the post-mortem examination revealed severe injuries, saying her daughter had suffered unimaginable cruelty despite being only 18 months old. Her emotional account has left many people devastated, with countless social media users expressing sympathy for the grieving mother and calling for the harshest possible punishment for those responsible. UEFA strongly criticised the plan, describing it as an opaque agreement that lacked transparency, while CONCACAF questioned Infantino’s leadership and governance. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also publicly expressed doubts about Infantino’s ability to continue leading world football.     Seven workers abducted in armed raid on Chagai min…

    Seven workers were abducted after a group of armed men raided a private mining site in Chagai district and allegedly took away vehicles, fuel and other equipment worth millions of rupees. According to sources, the incident occurred around 1pm on Tuesday at a mine in Mahian Kaur, located approximately 15 to 18 kilometres west of Chagai town. Eight unidentified armed men reportedly arrived at the mining site on motorcycles. They took control of the facility and held the workers hostage before taking seven employees away with them. Four of the abducted workers were from Gilgit. They were identified as Wajahat, Wajid, Shahid and Sabir. The other three workers were locals. They were identified as Ziauddin from Dalbandin, Shah Saleem from Mahian in Chagai and Saeed Muhammad, who is also from Mahian. Sources said the armed men remained at the mining site for several hours. They reportedly stayed there until around 7pm before leaving with the hostages and equipment. The attackers allegedly took a Zambad vehicle and a four-wheel-drive pickup from the site. A motorcycle was also reportedly taken. More than 20 solar panels were among the items removed from the mining facility. The attackers also allegedly took bedding, kitchen equipment and other supplies used by the workers. A large quantity of fuel was also taken. Sources said the stolen fuel included around 2,500 litres of diesel and 1,500 litres of petrol. The attackers reportedly carried out the operation without facing resistance. They then left the area with the seven workers and the stolen property. The incident was reported to the relevant authorities soon after the attackers departed. Local administration and security officials have launched efforts to trace the abducted workers and recover the vehicles and other property. Search efforts are continuing in the area, while authorities are also investigating the identity and motives of the armed men. The abduction has raised fresh security concerns for workers and private mining operations in Chagai, where remote mining sites can be difficult to secure. At the time of reporting, there was no confirmed information about the whereabouts or condition of the seven abducted workers.
