Why you should stop sitting on your wallet

Pain in the lower back hip or leg is often blamed on spine problems.  However doctors say a simple daily habit may also be responsible.

Sitting for long periods with a thick wallet in your back pocket can put pressure on an important nerve causing pain numbness or tingling.

This condition is commonly known as “wallet sciatica” or “fat wallet syndrome.” It is not a disease but a problem caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Because its symptoms are similar to sciatica caused by spine problems many people mistake it for a back condition.

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. It starts in the lower back and runs through the hips and down each leg.

Sitting on a thick wallet can make one side of the body higher than the other creating an uneven sitting position.  Over time this can put extra pressure on the nerve and lead to discomfort.

Doctors say this constant pressure may reduce blood flow to the nerve cause irritation and lead to inflammation.

In some cases it may also contribute to a condition called piriformis syndrome which can be confused with a spine problem.

Common symptoms include a dull ache in the lower back or hip burning or shooting pain down the back of the leg tingling or numbness in the leg or foot and pain that gets worse after sitting for a long time.

These symptoms usually appear on the same side where the wallet is carried. Experts warn that similar symptoms can also be caused by a slipped disc spinal narrowing or other nerve conditions. For this reason people should not rely on online information to diagnose themselves.

If the pain continues a medical check up is important to find the real cause. People who sit for long hours such as office workers drivers and frequent travelers may face a higher risk.

Carrying a wallet packed with cards receipts and cash makes the problem even more likely.

The good news is that many people improve simply by changing this habit.

Keeping your wallet in a front pocket jacket or bag removing unnecessary items and using digital payments can help reduce pressure on the nerve.

Doctors also recommend standing up and walking for a few minutes every 30 to 45 minutes sitting with good posture and doing gentle stretching exercises with professional guidance.

If pain numbness or difficulty walking continues or becomes severe seek medical care immediately.

Experts say ongoing back or leg pain should never be ignored as it may sometimes be a sign of a more serious nerve or spine problem.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has decided to introduce a new digital system for the private Hajj operation in 2027 in line with Saudi Arabia’s Nusuk Masar system. Under the new arrangement, bookings for private Hajj will be processed through the Ministry of Religious Affairs instead of being handled directly by private Hajj operators. Four held after Haripur child found dead in abando…

HARIPUR: Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged abduction, sexual assault and murder of a five-year-old girl whose body was recovered from a deserted well in Haripur after an extensive search operation. Haripur District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur said the child was reported missing by her father on August 10. Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched a search operation to trace her. A special investigation team was subsequently formed, comprising senior police officers, investigators and female police officials. A separate technical team was assigned to examine digital evidence, including CCTV footage, call records and geofencing data. Police reviewed footage from around 200 cameras and examined the records of 20 suspected telephone numbers. Investigators said footage from 12 cameras proved particularly significant in reconstructing the child’s movements after she left home and identifying individuals allegedly travelling in the area on foot and on a motorcycle. Three suspects were initially arrested, and police also recovered a motorcycle allegedly used in the incident. According to police, one suspect recorded a statement before a court admitting his involvement in the alleged abduction and sexual assault. The other suspects were produced before the court for further legal proceedings. Police later arrested a fourth suspect. Information obtained during the investigation led officers to a deep, dry and overgrown well located on a vacant plot near Link Road on University Road, close to a warehouse. A search team, assisted by Rescue 1122 personnel, recovered the child’s body from the well. The recovery operation was monitored by the DPO and senior members of the investigation team. The body was shifted to the Rescue 1122 Trauma Centre in Haripur, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. Doctors collected X-rays and samples for DNA and other forensic examinations. The results are awaited. The investigation has faced additional difficulties because some suspects are reportedly underage and did not possess identity documents. Police said they therefore examined telephone records linked to their family members and other numbers considered relevant to the case. The search for the missing child involved hundreds of personnel. More than 400 police officials, along with staff from the Tehsil Municipal Administration and Water and Sanitation Agency, participated in searches covering drains, sewerage lines, vegetation, vacant plots and deserted locations around the University of Haripur, Pathan Colony and nearby areas. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed took notice of the case, while Hazara DIG Nasir Mahmood Satti visited Haripur to review the investigation. The DPO briefed him on the evidence collected, CCTV findings and progress in identifying and arresting the suspects. The DIG also met the victim’s family and assured them that the investigation would be pursued according to law. Meanwhile, K-P Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the alleged crime and ordered a comprehensive investigation. He directed authorities to ensure that every aspect of the case was examined and that those found responsible were dealt with strictly under the law. The chief minister expressed condolences to the child’s family and said crimes against children would not be tolerated. He assured the family that the provincial government would support them and that the suspects would face legal consequences if found guilty.

  • Sitting on floor may support healthy aging

LAHORE – Health experts say that if you want to live up to 100 years, you should adopt some important habits that most people tend to overlook. A study published last week claimed that the maximum possible human lifespan could reach 194 years. Scientists at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Moscow say that if researchers can discover a way to limit cell death associated with aging, the human body may be able to function healthily for a longer period. Lifestyle factors cannot stop the natural biological aging process but they can help protect the body’s cells from premature death. The result may be not only a longer life but also a healthier and more active one. According to Dr. Claire Neyland, a general practitioner associated with the Preventive Healthcare Clinic (HOOQE), the real goal of longevity is not simply to add more years to life but to maintain a healthy and fulfilling life during old age. Dr. Neyland says planning for a long and healthy life should not begin at the age of 50 or 60. It is never too early to prepare for the future. By adopting healthy habits today, people can lay the foundation for a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life as they grow older. She said that eating a balanced diet, getting adequate sleep and exercising regularly are not the only things that matter. There are also some lesser-known but highly important daily habits that adults of all ages should incorporate into their routines. She explained that people generally spend most of their time sitting on chairs rather than on the floor. Sitting on the floor may help strengthen the lower body while also improving flexibility and balance. Moving from a sitting position on the floor to standing is a simple movement but it can quietly indicate whether the body is aging in a healthy way. On average, a person spends around 10 hours sitting each day which can have negative effects on the thigh bones, hip joints and pelvic-floor muscles. Sitting on the floor and getting back up requires leg strength, hip flexibility, balance and physical coordination. If these abilities are not regularly used, they can gradually weaken with age. People who maintain these abilities generally remain more independent and have a lower risk of falling. Falls are among the major causes of hospitalization and even death among older adults. According to Dr. Neyland, this habit can easily be incorporated into everyday life. For example, people can sit on the floor while watching television, play with children on the floor or do stretching exercises while sitting on the floor. If it is safe, they can also practise standing up without using their hands for support. Even performing this exercise a few times a day may help maintain mobility, flexibility and agility as the body ages.

AJK’s JAAC accused of pursuing foreign agenda to sabotage regional polls

Pakistan federal ministers and Azad Jammu and Kashmir authorities have publicly accused the proscribed Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee of deploying armed violence and operating under Indian financial backing to disrupt the region’s legislative assembly elections. During a joint press conference in Islamabad, State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar asserted that the group’s ongoing campaign aims to disenfranchise local voters rather than secure public rights. Chaudhry stated that thirty-seven of the committee’s thirty-eight demands had already been accepted by the government, rendering the continuing street agitation unjustified. Information Minister Tarar added that law enforcement agencies recently uncovered an India-linked digital campaign network funding social media operations and bot farms specifically to amplify content associated with the banned organization. The press conference coincided with statements from Azad Kashmir officials in Muzaffarabad following violent confrontations between law enforcement and protesters in Rawalakot. Regional police and administration spokespersons confirmed that five police officers sustained injuries from automatic gunfire during the clashes, alleging that armed elements within the movement have used civilians as shields. Despite the unrest in parts of the region, government representatives highlighted that roughly six hundred thousand citizens participated in the initial voting phase across Mirpur Division, characterising the high turnout as a definitive public rejection of efforts to derail the democratic process.

The case has increasingly drawn the attention of prominent public figures, with several celebrities turning to social media to express their grief, raise questions about the investigation and demand accountability. Actor Osman Khalid Butt also reacted strongly to the case, describing the reported details surrounding Ali’s death as disturbing. He called for the alleged conspiracy to be fully investigated and expressed hope that Ali’s family would receive the justice they have been seeking. Television host Maya Khan similarly voiced her support for Jibran Nasir’s efforts.
