Sindh solar project to benefit 275,000 families

Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the Sindh government’s Rs18.2 billion Solar Home System Project will provide clean and affordable energy to 275,000 deserving families across the province.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Memon said the initiative, launched under the guidance of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is a major step toward expanding access to renewable energy, particularly for low-income households and remote communities.

According to the minister, the project will benefit 132,000 off-grid families living in areas without access to the national electricity network, while 143,000 on-grid families facing electricity-related challenges will also receive solar home systems.

Each beneficiary family will be provided with a 180-watt solar panel, batteries, a central control unit, a charge controller, mobile charging facility, electric fans, and LED lights. The comprehensive package is designed to meet basic household energy needs while reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources.

Sharjeel Memon said the project is progressing rapidly, with more than 15,000 solar home system kits already distributed across various districts of Sindh. He added that the government aims to complete the distribution to all 275,000 eligible families by June 2027.

The senior minister described the initiative as more than just an electricity project, saying it represents a significant welfare program aimed at improving the quality of life for economically disadvantaged families. He noted that access to reliable and clean energy would help reduce household expenses, improve living standards, and support sustainable development across the province.

The Sindh government views the solar project as an important investment in renewable energy and social welfare, aligning with broader efforts to promote clean energy solutions and provide long-term relief to vulnerable communities.

Lil Wayne reveals he recorded music over the phone…

Lil Wayne has opened up about one of the most challenging periods of his life, revealing that he continued making music even while serving an eight-month sentence at New York City’s Rikers Island in 2010. During a recent appearance on the Keep Secrets podcast, the Grammy-winning rapper shared how his passion for music never faded, even behind bars. The 43-year-old artist explained that he found a creative way to keep recording despite the restrictions of prison life. According to Lil Wayne, he would use the prison phone system to record verses, calling producers and collaborators who would capture his vocals on the other end of the line. Although the audio quality was far from perfect, he said it allowed him to continue writing and creating music during one of the most difficult chapters of his career. Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was sentenced to eight months at Rikers Island after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon stemming from a 2007 incident. He entered the correctional facility in March 2010 and was released in November of the same year after serving approximately eight months. Reflecting on that time, the rapper said music became a source of motivation and helped him stay mentally focused. Rather than letting prison halt his creativity, he used every opportunity he could find to keep working on new material. His determination to remain productive, even under difficult circumstances, demonstrated the dedication that has defined much of his career. Lil Wayne has long been regarded as one of hip-hop’s most influential artists, with a catalog that includes hit albums such as Tha Carter III, Tha Carter IV, and Tha Carter V. Throughout his career, he has earned multiple Grammy Awards and inspired a new generation of rappers with his distinctive style and lyrical creativity. During the podcast conversation, Wayne also reflected on the importance of resilience. He suggested that difficult experiences can shape an artist’s perspective and fuel creativity rather than stop it. His willingness to adapt, even while incarcerated, highlights the relentless work ethic that has kept him relevant in the music industry for decades. Fans have responded with admiration to the revelation, praising Wayne’s determination to continue making music despite the limitations he faced. Many said the story offers a new appreciation for the effort that went into his work during that period. More than 15 years after his release, Lil Wayne’s latest comments provide a rare behind-the-scenes look at how he stayed connected to his craft while incarcerated. His story serves as a reminder that, for some artists, creativity can endure even in the most challenging environments, proving that passion often finds a way to overcome obstacles.

Alex Cooper’s drink company reportedly shutting …

Alex Cooper’s venture into the beverage industry may be coming to an end. The Call Her Daddy host’s Unwell Beverage business is reportedly shutting down after less than two years on the market. According to a Bloomberg report cited by People, the company is expected to end its beverage operations after releasing a final collection of Halloween-themed drinks this fall. Neither Cooper nor Target, the brand’s main retail partner, has publicly confirmed the report. (People.com) The reported closure marks an unexpected turn for a business that Cooper created after noticing what she believed was a gap in the hydration market. The idea for Unwell Hydration came to her while she was on her 2024 Unwell Tour. Cooper said she often struggled to find hydration and energy drinks that felt designed for women rather than men. She wanted to create something convenient for people with busy lifestyles while also offering lower-sugar options. Cooper previously explained that she would often feel exhausted while traveling and performing. She said many of the drinks she found either tasted unpleasant or contained more sugar than she wanted. That experience helped inspire the concept behind Unwell Hydration. (People.com) The beverage line was developed in partnership with Nestlé and officially launched in 2025. It initially focused on electrolyte drinks before expanding into additional products, including Unwell Focus, Unwell Protein and Unwell Energy. The products were primarily sold through Target stores and online. (People.com) Cooper’s goal was to bring her huge female audience into a category that had traditionally been associated with sports and performance. The company’s branding was closely connected to the wider Unwell media network, which Cooper has continued to expand through podcasts, entertainment projects, merchandise and other ventures. However, the beverage business reportedly struggled to establish a long-term position in an increasingly crowded functional-drinks market. The Cut noted that the brand moved from its original hydration focus into protein and energy products, potentially making its overall identity less clear to consumers. (The Cut) The reported shutdown does not mean Cooper’s larger Unwell business is disappearing. Her media company continues to operate across several areas, and recent reports indicate that Unwell itself has secured new investment that values the broader company at around $500 million. (TMZ) For now, fans may still see Unwell beverages on shelves as retailers sell through their remaining inventory. The final Halloween-themed release could become the brand’s last major product launch. While the drink company may have had a short run, Cooper’s attempt shows how quickly major digital creators are moving beyond social media and podcasts into consumer products—and how difficult it can be to turn a huge online following into a lasting beverage brand. Solar eclipse darkens Edgbaston during The Hundred

BIRMINGHAM: A rare celestial spectacle added an extraordinary twist to The Hundred 2026 as a partial solar eclipse darkened the sky during the clash between Birmingham Phoenix and MI London at Edgbaston Stadium on Wednesday. The match began at 6:30pm local time, shortly after the eclipse had started at around 6:15pm. The phenomenon reached its peak at 7:11pm, when approximately 91.76 percent of the Sun was obscured, before ending at 8:05pm. As daylight faded dramatically, Edgbaston’s floodlights were switched on to maintain visibility, allowing the match to continue without interruption. Stadium screens and the announcer repeatedly warned spectators not to look directly at the Sun because of the risk of serious eye damage. The unusual conditions created a striking atmosphere for spectators, with the normally bright evening sky turning noticeably darker as the eclipse progressed. On the field, MI London held their nerve to post 157 runs. Birmingham Phoenix responded with 155, falling just two runs short and handing MI London a narrow victory. The combination of high-stakes cricket and a dramatic solar eclipse made the Edgbaston encounter one of the most unusual sporting moments of The Hundred 2026.

Iran warns US: Any aggression will be met with a strong and decisive response

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that any aggression against Iran or its vital infrastructure will trigger a “strong and decisive response”, emphasising that Tehran’s defense doctrine remains grounded in an “eye for an eye” policy. Writing on social media platform X, Araghchi made it clear that Iran will hit back against any strikes on its territory and cautioned that any third parties providing support to such actions will also be viewed as legitimate targets. The warning follows aggressive directives from US President Donald Trump, who ordered US Central Command (CENTCOM) to intensify strikes on Iranian positions and threatened that Iran would pay a steep price as military actions continue. An official from Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reinforced Araghchi’s statement, warning that if US forces target Iranian power plants or bridges, Iran will respond by targeting infrastructure, bridges, and energy assets associated with American interests throughout the region.
