Body of Missing British Tourist Joshua Kershaw Found in Thailand Hotel

PATTAYA – The body of 21-year-old British tourist Joshua Kershaw was discovered in a hotel room in Thailand on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, days after he was reported missing. Hotel maids found him in the afternoon and alerted police, who attempted resuscitation before his body was taken from the scene.

British Tourist Reported Missing in Thailand, Did Not Board Return Flight

Kershaw had arrived in Thailand earlier this month and was last heard from on January 12, when he called his mother from the Walking Street area of Pattaya around 10:30 p.m. He was scheduled to fly home from Bangkok on January 19 but did not board his flight, prompting his family to file a missing person report.

Pattaya City Police had classified him as high-risk and launched a search, while his family started a GoFundMe campaign to assist in locating him. In a heartfelt Facebook post, his mother confirmed the tragic outcome: “As much as my heart is breaking right now. We have now located Josh. But unfortunately he was not alive. We are now trying to get his body back to the UK.”

Authorities have not released details regarding the cause of death, which remains under investigation. The family has stated the cause is currently unknown.

In addition to infrastructure development, the meeting focused on improving the CDA’s financial sustainability. Officials discussed proposals to increase the authority’s permanent revenue, develop a long-term revenue model, and implement practical measures that would help the organization achieve greater financial independence. Naqvi stressed that strengthening the CDA’s financial position is just as important as delivering development projects. He also instructed officials to complete the Expressway Service Road project within the approved deadline, saying timely completion of public infrastructure remains a top government priority.

    PSX sheds 280 points amid cautious trading

    The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) remained under pressure during Tuesday’s trading session as investors adopted a cautious approach. The benchmark KSE-100 Index opened on a weak note and stayed in negative territory during the first half of the session. By 1pm, the index had dropped 279.65 points, or 0.16%, to 177,982.68 points. It had closed at 178,262.33 points in the previous session. The market witnessed further pressure shortly after opening. At around 9:39am, the KSE-100 fell to 177,914.38 points, losing 347.95 points, or 0.20%. The index later recovered some of its early losses but remained below the previous close. Trading remained volatile during the session. The index reached an intraday high of 179,123 points and a low of 177,903.87 points. Despite the decline in the benchmark index, market activity remained relatively strong. Around 339.48 million shares were traded during the session. The total value of shares traded stood at approximately Rs19.71 billion. Investor sentiment remained subdued as market participants appeared cautious about taking fresh positions. Profit-taking also contributed to the pressure on the benchmark index. The partial recovery from the morning low indicated some buying interest at lower levels. However, it was not enough to push the index back into positive territory by midday. Investors continued to monitor market developments and broader economic indicators for direction. The afternoon session was expected to determine whether the index could recover its losses or close the day in negative territory.

    Dar holds key talks with Australia, Oman on region…

    Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held important diplomatic meetings in Manila during the ASEAN Regional Forum 2026, discussing regional security, global developments, and ways to strengthen Pakistan’s relations with other countries. Dar met Australian Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong and reviewed the current state of Pakistan-Australia relations. Both sides agreed to further expand cooperation through regular high-level contacts and closer engagement. The two foreign ministers also discussed recent regional tensions and international challenges. They stressed that dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law are essential for achieving long-term peace and stability. Australia appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to support dialogue and reduce tensions in the region. Both countries agreed to continue cooperation on matters of mutual interest. During another meeting, Dar held talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi. The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive progress in Pakistan-Oman relations and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The discussions focused on increasing trade, promoting investment, improving business-to-business links, expanding people-to-people contacts, and enhancing cooperation through international forums. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments. They emphasised the need to uphold ceasefires, respect international law, and work together to promote peace and security. Oman praised Pakistan’s constructive role in encouraging dialogue and supporting regional stability. The two ministers agreed to remain in close communication on important issues. Earlier in Manila, Dar also met senior officials of the Asian Development Bank and called for faster progress on financing for Pakistan’s Main Line-1 railway project. He highlighted the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and the development institution and discussed expanding cooperation in different sectors. Dar also held separate meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rehman. The discussions covered bilateral relations, trade, energy cooperation, connectivity, and future diplomatic engagement. The ASEAN Regional Forum has brought together foreign ministers and senior officials from several countries to discuss major global and regional challenges, including security issues, energy supplies, trade, food security, and ongoing conflicts.

    Independence Day stalls bring festive rush

    With Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day approaching, markets across the city have come alive with stalls selling national flags, badges, flag-themed clothes, toys, caps, horns and other decorative items. Vendors have set up stalls at major commercial centres, markets, streets and residential areas. Children, youngsters and families are visiting these stalls to buy flags, badges, dupattas, ladies’ suits and children’s outfits featuring the national colours. Large and small horns remain among the most popular items, particularly among children and students. However, the continuous and often extremely loud “pee-pee” sounds have disturbed residents in several neighbourhoods, affecting their peace and sleep. Youngsters and children have also been setting off firecrackers, including Chinese-made varieties, adding to the noise in residential areas. Rising inflation has also pushed up the prices of Independence Day items, with vendors saying the cost of flags and flag-themed clothing has nearly doubled. Large horns that produce particularly loud sounds are selling for around Rs150 to Rs200.
