AJK police accuse JAAC of hidden agenda, weapons s…

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police have accused the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of pursuing an agenda aimed at creating unrest in the region.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khawar Ali Shaukat made the allegations during a press conference in Rawalakot on Wednesday.

The police official said recent violence in Rawalakot had raised serious questions about the group’s claim that it was engaged in peaceful protests.

Shaukat alleged that armed groups attacked security personnel at several locations across the city over the past two days.

According to the police official, the attackers used sophisticated weapons during the clashes. He said security personnel came under repeated fire during the incidents.

The SSP said one Rangers official was martyred in the violence. He added that around 15 police officers and other law enforcement personnel were injured.

Shaukat claimed that several suspects had been arrested in connection with the attacks. He said a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from those taken into custody.

The recovered weapons allegedly included heavy arms. Police also claimed to have seized an automatic weapon believed to be of American origin.

The SSP said the recovery raised concerns about the nature and objectives of the group involved in the violence.

He accused the proscribed organisation of attempting to disrupt peace in AJK and create divisions within society.

Shaukat also rejected claims circulating on social media that security forces had deliberately targeted peaceful protesters.

He said the situation on the ground was different from the narrative being presented online.

According to the police official, law enforcement agencies exercised restraint throughout the unrest. He claimed that security personnel responded only after coming under attack.

The latest police statement comes after clashes between protesters and security forces in different parts of AJK.

Violence was reported in Rawalakot on Monday and in Mirpur on Tuesday. The clashes reportedly resulted in several casualties, although details surrounding the losses remained disputed.

The JAAC has been holding protests across the region for several weeks. Among its demands is the abolition of 12 seats in the local legislature reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Kashmir.

The dispute has led to growing tensions between protesters and the authorities.

The government has also accused militant elements of exploiting the protests. It has alleged that some groups involved in the unrest are pursuing a foreign agenda and receiving financial support from India.

The JAAC has rejected such allegations and accused security forces of using excessive force against its supporters.

The group has claimed that dozens of its supporters were killed during clashes. However, the claim has not been officially confirmed.

The competing claims have added to uncertainty surrounding the situation in AJK.

Authorities are now investigating the violence and the alleged involvement of armed individuals. Police have also indicated that further arrests could follow as the investigation progresses.

300 children die daily due to poor healthcare: Mus…

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has said that nearly 300 children die every day in Pakistan because of inadequate healthcare facilities, stressing the need for urgent reforms and greater investment in the country’s health sector. Speaking at a ceremony held at a private hospital in Karachi, the health minister said Pakistan is moving in the right direction but acknowledged that significant challenges remain in improving healthcare services across the country. Mustafa Kamal said the nursing curriculum must be updated to meet modern healthcare standards and international requirements. He added that strengthening the skills of healthcare professionals is essential to improving the quality of medical services. Highlighting demographic challenges, the minister said Pakistan’s population is growing at an annual rate of 2.55 percent, placing increasing pressure on education, healthcare and other public services. He noted that the rapidly expanding population has left millions of children without access to education. The minister said the government’s primary focus is to prevent diseases through vaccination and public awareness rather than relying solely on treatment. He added that Pakistan spends millions of dollars every year on vaccination programmes and warned that the cost could rise to $1.2 billion by 2030 if current trends continue. Mustafa Kamal said a lack of public awareness remains one of the biggest obstacles to successful immunisation campaigns. He noted that vaccination teams often face resistance, with some families refusing to cooperate by not allowing health workers into their homes. He said the government is working to improve awareness about the importance of vaccines and strengthen preventive healthcare programmes to reduce the burden of infectious diseases. The health minister also announced that the government is expected to sign agreements within the next few weeks to begin local vaccine production. He expressed hope that Pakistan would start manufacturing vaccines domestically before 2030, reducing dependence on imports and strengthening the country’s public health system.

Iran announces $30,000 reward for capturing or kil…

TEHRAN: Iran has announced a $30,000 reward for anyone who kills or captures a US servicemember and hands them over to Iranian authorities, in a striking escalation of rhetoric amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington. Iranian Army chief Maj Gen Amir Hatami announced the reward, saying it had been introduced after what he described as a large number of public requests to participate in the confrontation with the United States. Under the reported scheme, a person who kills or captures a US soldier and hands the servicemember to Iranian authorities would receive $30,000, or the equivalent of about 5 billion Iranian tomans. Hatami reportedly said the reward would be doubled if the action was carried out by a woman. The announcement comes as tensions between Iran and the United States remain high. Tehran has repeatedly demanded that American forces leave the region, while Washington has maintained a significant military presence across the Middle East. Despite the threat, there are no known US ground forces permanently deployed inside Iran. Reports indicate that American personnel entered Iranian territory in April during a rescue operation following the crash of a US aircraft. Hatami also issued a warning over the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Strait of Hormuz, saying American forces would not be allowed to return. His comments came after US President Donald Trump made controversial statements concerning the strategic waterway. The Strait of Hormuz remains a major flashpoint because it is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Any further escalation around the passage could have consequences well beyond the region, particularly for global oil markets. The latest Iranian announcement adds another provocative dimension to an already tense confrontation, raising concerns over the safety of US personnel and the possibility of further escalation across the Middle East.

Use of Pellet guns in Delhi protests revive Kashmi…

Cockroach Janta Party protests in Delhi has sparked a nationwide debate while reopening old wounds in occupied Kashmir, where the weapon has been used extensively against peaceful protesters for years. The incidents in the capital have drawn attention to the long-standing suffering of Kashmiris, who have borne the brunt of pellet gun injuries, with many left blinded or permanently disabled. The Delhi protests, led by students demanding education reforms, ended successfully with the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. However, the use of pellet guns against demonstrators has overshadowed the victory, raising concerns about the government’s approach to handling dissent. Critics have questioned why such force was used against peaceful protesters in the capital, drawing parallels to the devastation caused in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Rahul Gandhi, a prominent opposition leader, expressed deep sorrow over the use of pellet guns, highlighting the tragic toll they have taken in Kashmir. Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned pellet guns as a “cruel weapon” that causes disproportionate harm, and the international community has raised concerns about their use in the region. The Delhi incident has reignited calls for a ban on pellet guns, with activists urging the Indian government to adopt less lethal methods of crowd control. The controversy has also drawn attention to the broader issue of human rights violations in occupied Kashmir, where the use of such weapons has been a persistent concern. Hospital records from the region highlight the devastating impact of pellet gun injuries, with countless young Kashmiris left with permanent disabilities. The use of pellet guns in Delhi has not only sparked outrage but has also brought the Kashmir issue back to the forefront of national and international discourse. Human rights groups have called for a thorough investigation into the incidents and for the government to ensure that such weapons are no longer used against citizens exercising their fundamental rights. As the debate continues, the victims of pellet gun injuries in both Delhi and Kashmir await justice and accountability. The incident serves as a reminder of the urgent need for reforms in crowd control measures and the importance of protecting the rights of all citizens. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, urging India to uphold its human rights obligations. The time for change is now. The government must act decisively to ensure that the rights of all citizens are protected and that such incidents are never repeated. The victims of pellet gun injuries, both in Delhi and Kashmir, deserve justice, and the government must take concrete steps to ensure that their voices are heard and their grievances addressed. The fight for justice continues, and the nation must stand united in its commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens. The use of pellet guns in Delhi has once again exposed the harsh realities of India’s approach to law and order, and the need for meaningful reform has never been more urgent.
