Ananya Raj dies at 27 after year-long health struggle

Indian actress Ananya Raj, known for her roles in films including 7 Hours to Go, The Final Exit and Ghost, has died at the age of 27. She passed away on July 15, with her family confirming the news several weeks later through a statement shared on her official Instagram account.

According to the statement, Ananya had been experiencing physical and mental health difficulties for more than a year. Despite the challenges, her family said she continued to face her struggles with strength and determination. She died peacefully in her sleep during the early hours of July 15.

“With great pain, we have to announce that Ananya passed away in the wee hours of 15th July. She passed away peacefully in sleep,” her family said in the statement.

The family described Ananya as a strong and determined person who continued fighting through the difficulties she faced. They said she had spent more than a year dealing with physical and mental discomfort but remained committed to overcoming the problems.

Remembering her personality and spirit, her family wrote that she was a strong-spirited girl who lived life like a queen. They also expressed how deeply her absence would be felt by those who loved her.

Ananya began her acting career in Hindi cinema and made her Bollywood debut with 7 Hours to Go in 2016. The film marked her entry into the industry and was followed by appearances in other projects.

In 2017, she featured in The Final Exit, further establishing herself as a young performer in the Hindi film industry. She later appeared in the 2019 film Ghost, adding another notable project to her acting credits.

Beyond Bollywood, Ananya also explored regional cinema and worked across different film industries. Her credits included the trilingual movie Madrasi Gang, reflecting her involvement in both Hindi and regional productions.

Although her career was still developing, Ananya had already built a body of work across multiple projects. Her death at such a young age has brought renewed attention to her acting journey and the films in which she appeared.

In their statement, Ananya’s family requested privacy as they come to terms with their loss. They asked people to respect their need for peace and quiet during what they described as a difficult period.

The family also appealed to fans, friends and well-wishers to remember Ananya and pray for her soul. They expressed gratitude for the love and support surrounding her memory while requesting privacy during the grieving process.

    AJK election polling ends, counting underway

    Polling for the second phase of the 2026 general elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly concluded on Sunday, with vote counting now underway across the contested constituencies. The election was held for eight constituencies in the Muzaffarabad Division and 12 seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees residing in different cities of Pakistan. Polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad was postponed due to bad weather and landslides, while clashes in LA-31 left a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) worker dead. In Khawra, Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Salahuddin Junejo and two party workers were injured in a firing incident. Voting began at 8:00 a.m. and was originally scheduled to end at 5:00 p.m. However, the AJK Election Commission extended polling by one hour in the Muzaffarabad Division due to a high voter turnout, allowing voters to cast their ballots until 6:00 p.m. More than 1.2 million registered voters were eligible to vote in the second phase of the elections. A total of 208 candidates contested nine constituencies in the Muzaffarabad Division, which has 809,621 registered voters, while 143 candidates competed for the 12 refugee seats. Authorities established 1,483 polling stations across the Muzaffarabad region, with heavy security deployed at highly sensitive locations. Polling Postponed in LA-27 Although elections were scheduled in nine constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division, polling was held in only eight. The Election Commission postponed voting in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-II (Lachhrat) after severe weather and landslides disrupted access to several polling stations. Fresh polling in the constituency has been scheduled for August 4. Voting in some constituencies began late, while the PPP accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of electoral irregularities. The party’s election cell submitted formal complaints to the Chief Election Commissioner. Clashes and Violence A PPP worker, identified as Mushtaq Shah, was killed during clashes in LA-31. In Khawra, PPP MNA Salahuddin Junejo, who represents NA-210 Sanghar-II, suffered a gunshot wound to his arm during a firing incident. Two party workers were also injured and all three were shifted to hospital for treatment. In LA-29 (Muzaffarabad-III), polling was temporarily suspended after clashes erupted between supporters of the PML-N and the PPP. In LA-43 (Rawalpindi Valley-IV), PPP candidate Javed Butt reportedly entered the Millat Colony polling station accompanied by an armed guard. According to reports, the guard was not stopped by police personnel. Security and Key Contests Constituencies LA-28, LA-29, and LA-31 were declared highly sensitive due to security concerns. Closely watched contests included prominent political figures such as Shah Ghulam Qadir of the PML-N, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, and AJK Legislative Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar. In the Rawalpindi Division, 35 candidates contested three refugee seats, representing 27,907 registered voters. Voting also took place in Karachi for two refugee constituencies representing Kashmir and Jammu. For security, around 4,000 police personnel were deployed. Out of 175 polling stations, 31 were declared sensitive. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 41 polling stations were established across 21 districts for LA-45 Kashmir Valley-VI, where 7,655 registered voters were eligible to cast their ballots.

The recordings reportedly captured the husband and wife taking away motorcycles, providing investigators with key evidence that led to the woman’s arrest. During the operation, police also recovered a motorcycle from the suspect’s possession. Officials are verifying whether the recovered vehicle matches any of the motorcycles reported stolen in recent cases. A criminal case has been registered against the arrested woman and her absconding husband under the relevant legal provisions. Police have launched a search operation to locate the fugitive suspect while continuing their investigation to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged theft network. Law enforcement authorities have urged motorcycle owners to take preventive measures, including parking their vehicles in secure locations, using reliable locking systems, and reporting suspicious activity to the police. Officials say public cooperation, along with surveillance technology, continues to play an important role in tackling vehicle theft across the city. The investigation remains ongoing, and police expect further developments as efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspect and recover additional stolen motorcycles.

      The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive traffic management plan for the city’s central Chehlum procession, informing residents that M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed to traffic throughout the event. Citizens have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and use the designated alternative routes to avoid delays. According to the traffic police, all traffic traveling from Saddar toward Tower will be diverted through Preedy Street and I.I. Chundrigar Road. In addition, several key intersections and commercial areas, including Lighthouse, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, and Tibet Centre, will have temporary traffic diversions in place. These measures are intended to keep vehicles away from the procession route and maintain public safety during the event. Motorists approaching from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be redirected toward Kashmir Road and Peoples Chowrangi. Vehicles arriving from Korangi, Landhi, and the National Highway will be diverted through Rashid Minhas Road before proceeding to the Super Highway. Traffic officials have urged drivers from these areas to follow diversion signs and cooperate with law enforcement personnel deployed along the routes. Commuters traveling from Nazimabad will be able to reach their destinations through Lasbela, Garden, and Nishtar Road. Similarly, traffic coming from Liaquatabad will be diverted at Lasbela Chowk toward Nazimabad No. 10. These alternate routes have been identified to reduce congestion and facilitate the movement of vehicles while the main procession route remains inaccessible. The traffic plan also outlines arrangements for vehicles coming from Hassan Square. Such traffic will be directed through Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Society Light Signal, and Teen Hatti before reaching Lasbela Chowk. Meanwhile, motorists traveling from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be guided through Society Light Signal and Sher Shah Suri Road to continue their journeys. Drivers using Jamshed Road and intending to travel toward Gurumandir have been advised to use Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road as alternative routes. The Karachi Traffic Police have imposed strict restrictions on heavy vehicles for the duration of the procession. Heavy traffic will not be allowed to enter the city from 10:00 a.m. until the conclusion of the Chehlum procession. The restriction is aimed at preventing congestion and ensuring the safety of participants and the general public. Transport operators have been instructed to adjust their schedules accordingly and avoid entering restricted areas during the specified hours. Authorities have also announced a complete ban on parking along the procession route. Any vehicle found parked in prohibited areas will be immediately towed away without prior notice. Traffic police have warned motorists to comply with parking regulations and follow the instructions of officers on duty to avoid penalties and unnecessary inconvenience. The central Chehlum procession is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, from Nishtar Park. A large number of mourners are expected to participate in the religious gathering, prompting extensive security and traffic arrangements across the city. Police and traffic officials will remain deployed throughout the procession to manage vehicle movement, assist commuters, and maintain public order. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official traffic advisories before leaving their homes and to use alternative routes wherever possible. The proposed ceasefire aims to temporarily halt military operations, restore maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and open the door for renewed negotiations. According to sources familiar with the mediation efforts, the proposal has been shared with both governments, but officials in Washington and Tehran have so far withheld their approval. Diplomats say both countries appear determined to strengthen their military positions before considering any pause in fighting. The report added that US President Donald Trump is weighing two key options. The first is to endorse a limited 10-day ceasefire that could reduce regional tensions and revive diplomatic talks. The second involves expanding military operations alongside Israel in an effort to increase pressure on Iran and force concessions over security and nuclear issues. Official documents show that the difference between the basic cost and retail price of petrol is Rs139.93 per litre. For high-speed diesel, the difference stands at Rs116.10 per litre. The documents show that the basic cost of one litre of petrol is Rs197.69. However, consumers are currently paying Rs327.62 per litre. Several taxes, levies and margins are included in the retail price. These charges significantly increase the amount paid by consumers at fuel stations. Petrol carries a petroleum levy of Rs80 per litre. A climate support levy of Rs5 is also imposed. The price also includes Rs21.24 in customs duty. An Inland Freight Equalisation Margin of Rs7.48 is charged per litre. Oil marketing companies receive a margin of Rs7.87 per litre. Dealers are paid a margin of Rs8.64 per litre. As a result, consumers pay Rs130.23 per litre in combined levies, taxes and margins on petrol. The situation is similar for high-speed diesel. Its basic cost is Rs264.76 per litre. However, its retail price has been fixed at Rs380.86 per litre. According to the documents, consumers pay around Rs116 per litre in levies, taxes and different margins on high-speed diesel. The petroleum levy on high-speed diesel is Rs74.28 per litre. The fuel also carries a climate support levy of Rs5 per litre. Customs duty accounts for another Rs15.68 per litre. The Inland Freight Equalisation Margin stands at Rs4.63. Oil marketing companies receive a margin of Rs7.87 per litre. Dealers receive Rs8.64 per litre as their margin. The figures show that taxes, levies and various margins form a significant portion of the final prices of both fuels. The additional charges directly affect motorists and consumers. They also increase transportation and operating costs for businesses that depend heavily on fuel. The rising cost of petrol and diesel can also put pressure on the prices of goods and services. Transport operators, traders and other businesses often pass higher fuel costs on to consumers.
