Banglamung and Pattaya Authorities Launch Joint Checkpoints to Crack Down on Drugs, Weapons and Illegal Goods
BANGLAMUNG, Chonburi — District authorities in Banglamung have joined forces with police, municipal officials, village headmen and kamnans to set up checkpoints and intensify suppression of drugs, weapons and all forms of illegal items, in line with the Prime Minister’s security policies.
The move follows a practical workshop chaired by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul designed at driving government security measures at the local level. Key issues addressed included land encroachment, cybercrime, nominee businesses, money laundering, suppression of influential groups and criminal networks, informal debt problems, tourist safety, database integration and management, and drug prevention and suppression.
The Ministry of Interior has coordinated with the Royal Thai Police to advance the guiding principle of “relieving suffering, promoting happiness, protecting public peace, annihilating drugs and conquering thugs.” Following the workshop, nine priority missions were set. Provincial governors and district chiefs, as area leaders, were instructed to integrate efforts with provincial police commanders, station superintendents, local administrative organisations, kamnans and village headmen under the “90-Day Drug Annihilation Operation Plan” running from 1 July to 30 September.
Chonburi Governor Narit Niramaiwong directed Banglamung District Chief Anusak Phiriyamorn to lead deputy district officers in coordinating with officers from the four police stations in the district, Banglamung, Pattaya City, Nong Prue and Huai Yai, as well as village headmen, kamnans and municipalities. Forces have been deployed to establish checkpoints at high risk points throughout the area of responsibility to intercept illegal items of all kinds, including narcotics and firearms. Anyone found in illegal possession faces strict arrest and prosecution with no exceptions.
Operations focus on seven key measures:
1. Close monitoring and surveillance of former prisoners residing in the area.
2. Regular establishment of checkpoints and area patrols, integrating police patrol units with Village Security Volunteers.
3. Continuous drug suppression through searches of abandoned houses, warehouses and suspicious locations.
4. Strict enforcement of proper uniforms for officials and vigilance against those impersonating civil servants to commit crimes.
5. Absolute prohibition on unnecessary or non-regulation carry of firearms.
6. Accelerated crackdown on illegal drug and chemical production sites.
7. Integrated cooperation among administrative officials, police and all related agencies to enhance crime prevention and suppression, safeguard people’s lives and property, and build confidence among tourists.
In recent operations tonight, officers recovered 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition, knives, Category 1 narcotics and individuals whose urine tested positive (indicated by purple colouration). Numerous motorcycles with modified loud exhausts and lacking proper registration documents were also seized. Suspects and evidence have been handed over to the relevant local police stations for further legal proceedings.
