The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued a notice this week advising all air passengers to be aware of and well prepared for stricter automated screening of their belongings at security checkpoints throughout the country’s airports.

Expediting the Screening Process

According to the CAAT notice, passengers can help expedite the security screening process by taking proactive steps while lining up at checkpoints. Travelers should, for instance, remove their watches, hats, jackets, belts, and block-heeled shoes and place them in trays in advance to ensure a smooth and efficient flow through the screening area.

These preparatory measures are designed to reduce wait times and prevent bottlenecks at security checkpoints, particularly during peak travel periods when passenger volumes are highest.

Enhanced Screening Procedures

Passengers are also required to cooperate fully with other screening procedures at the checkpoints, which may include pat-down inspections or, if necessary, walking through automated metal detectors and body scanners. These measures are standard international practice and are being implemented to align Thailand’s aviation security protocols with global best practices.

CAAT has amended its rules and regulations in accordance with ICAO standards and guidance to minimize risks for air passengers and further enhance Thailand’s aviation system. Officials said they intend to keep protecting Basmati as a core part of Pakistan’s agricultural heritage and export identity, pursuing similar protections in other foreign jurisdictions on the basis of the rice variety’s historical origin, established reputation and distinctive qualities. Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan praised ministry officials and other stakeholders involved in the case, calling the ruling an important win for Pakistan’s agricultural heritage, commercial interests and export identity. India and Pakistan have long disputed the origins of Basmati rice, which both countries grow extensively. The rice traces its roots to the Punjab region, which was split into East Punjab, now part of India, and West Punjab, now part of Pakistan, following partition in 1947.     ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved an increase in the dealers’ margin on petrol and diesel by Rs1.34 per litre. According to sources, the dealers’ margin on both petrol and diesel has been raised from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98 per litre. Vice Chairman of the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association Nauman Butt thanked the prime minister and petroleum minister for approving the increase. The association said the government had fulfilled its long-standing demand by increasing the dealers’ margin by Rs1.34 per litre. Meanwhile, the government collected more petroleum levy revenue than both its target and the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) estimate during the last fiscal year. According to Finance Ministry sources, petroleum levy collections exceeded Rs1.56 trillion during the previous fiscal year. More than Rs50 billion was also collected under the Climate Support Levy. Petroleum levy collections were around Rs100 billion higher than the government’s target and Rs21 billion above the IMF’s estimate. At present, a petroleum levy of Rs80 per litre is being charged on petrol. High-Speed Diesel carries a levy of Rs77.28 per litre. In addition, a separate Climate Support Levy of Rs5 per litre is being imposed on both petrol and diesel.

    Police recover Rs17.5 million silver after Muzaffa…

    MUZAFFARGARH: Police have arrested five suspects in connection with a major robbery involving 18 kilograms of silver worth Rs17.5 million. All of the stolen silver has been recovered. Police also seized illegal weapons allegedly used during the robbery. District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ghazanfar Ali Shah shared the details during a press conference at the district police office. According to the DPO, the robbery took place in the jurisdiction of City Muzaffargarh police station. The incident occurred near Darbar Piran Shah in Mahmood Kot, close to Thermal Road. The complainant was travelling by truck from Pishin towards Multan when six armed men allegedly intercepted the vehicle. The suspects took the silver at gunpoint and fled from the scene. Police registered a case against six unidentified suspects based on the complainant’s statement. Investigators then began tracing the vehicle allegedly used in the crime. Police identified the car and found that it was registered in the name of the brother of one of the suspected main perpetrators. This breakthrough helped investigators move closer to the suspects. After the arrest of the key suspect, police traced other people allegedly involved in the robbery. Police teams conducted raids in different areas as the investigation progressed. Five suspects were eventually arrested. During the operation, police recovered the entire 18 kilograms of stolen silver. The recovered silver was valued at Rs17.5 million. Illegal weapons allegedly used in the robbery were also seized from the suspects. DPO Ghazanfar Ali Shah said the case was solved through professional investigation and the use of modern information technology. He praised the police team of City Muzaffargarh for its efforts. The team worked under the supervision of SDPO City Circle Muhammad Zafar Wattoo. The DPO also appreciated the role of the Special Branch Muzaffargarh and Crime Control Department (CCD) officials. He said their assistance was important in tracing the suspects and recovering the stolen property. Police officials said further investigation into the case is continuing. The DPO announced that the police personnel involved in solving the case would receive cash rewards and certificates of appreciation.
