Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The two leaders discussed the latest situation in the region. They also exchanged views on the recently concluded Makkah Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

The conversation comes as the regional security situation remains sensitive. Both sides discussed developments in the region and efforts to promote peace and stability.

According to reports, Araghchi briefed Dar on recent discussions with Oman. The talks focused on a proposed new trade corridor in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz remains an important international trade and energy route. Developments in the area have raised concerns about regional security and the movement of commercial shipments.

During the telephone call, Dar also explained Pakistan’s position on the Makkah Defence Agreement.

He told his Iranian counterpart that the agreement was aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation between the participating countries.

Dar also stressed that the pact was intended to support peace and stability in the region.

The agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye has attracted regional attention. Questions have also been raised about its possible impact on the wider security environment.

Iran has previously sought clarification about the nature and objectives of the defence cooperation. Pakistani officials have maintained that the agreement is focused on strategic cooperation and regional stability.

The latest conversation between Dar and Araghchi provided an opportunity for both countries to discuss these developments directly.

The two foreign ministers also discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further instability in the region.

Their conversation highlights the importance of continued engagement between Pakistan and Iran. Both countries share close regional ties and have an interest in maintaining peace and stability.

The families of the deceased have meanwhile called for an independent and transparent investigation. Tajamul Hussain, the father of one of the women, rejected the police version that the deaths were linked to a medical condition. He questioned how both women could have suffered fatal heart problems while in custody and alleged that they were killed. Police have denied the allegations. SSP Investigation Naveed Ahmed said the women had previous criminal records and were arrested after a passerby contacted Police Emergency 15 and reported that they had allegedly snatched an earring. The officer also claimed that the women used drugs but firmly rejected allegations that they were tortured or mistreated during their detention. With the histopathology reports still awaited, the investigation is expected to focus on the women’s medical condition, their treatment while in custody and the circumstances leading up to their deaths.

The attack was reportedly livestreamed through a body-worn camera, adding a disturbing dimension to an incident that has renewed concerns over school safety in the country. The shooting occurred at a school attached to the privately run Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga city. According to a preliminary police report, the student entered the campus carrying a pistol and a rifle before firing inside two classrooms. Zamboanga Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso said authorities confirmed that the attack had been livestreamed. Reuters said it verified footage showing the shooter entering one classroom and opening fire before switching weapons and moving to another classroom. Police identified the victim as a male Grade 10 student. The gunman, who was a Grade 9 student, later died by suicide. Two other people were wounded, while several students suffered injuries as they attempted to flee the building during the chaos. Classes were subsequently suspended. The motive behind the attack remained unclear. Officials said one of the weapons was a .40-caliber pistol issued by the Bureau of Customs to the shooter’s father, who is a customs official and has since been relieved of his post. A second firearm recovered from the scene was reportedly a licensed weapon belonging to the father. The incident prompted an immediate response from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, who ordered law enforcement agencies to investigate the shooting and examine measures to prevent violence in schools. “Our schools are where we entrust our children to learn, to grow and to dream about the lives ahead of them,” Marcos said, stressing that schools should be among the safest places in the country. The school occupies an approximately eight-hectare site and includes facilities for grade school and junior high school students. Videos verified by Reuters showed students rushing from the campus as gunshots could be heard in the background. Tuesday’s attack comes less than two months after another school shooting in the Philippines. In June, at least three students were killed and about 20 others injured when two students opened fire at a public high school in Tacloban City. School shootings remain relatively uncommon in the Philippines, which has regulations covering firearm ownership, including background checks and psychological evaluations. However, officials continue to face challenges from the circulation of illegal firearms. The Zamboanga shooting also came less than 10 days after a student shooting rampage at a school near Bangkok, highlighting growing regional concerns over violence involving young people and the urgent need for stronger safeguards in educational institutions.

The report says Imran Khan complained of heaviness in his head. He also reported feeling that his heartbeat was faster than usual. However, he did not report chest pain. He also did not complain of chest heaviness or shortness of breath. The medical board recommended medicines to control his blood pressure and anxiety. Doctors also recommended regular physical activity. The board suggested that Imran Khan should walk for one hour every day. It also recommended activities that could provide mental relaxation. The report recommends that he should be provided with magazines, newspapers, television and books. These activities could help reduce mental stress during his imprisonment. The medical board also recommended increasing the duration of meetings with Imran Khan’s family and wife. According to the report, greater family interaction could help control his anxiety and blood pressure. The recommendations come amid repeated demands from PTI leaders for greater access to the former prime minister. Jail authorities said Imran Khan receives regular medical attention. The sentencing marks a major turning point in the fallout from Evergrande’s collapse, which shook China’s property sector and inflicted heavy losses on investors and domestic banks alike. The court said Hui and his businesses seriously disrupted the Chinese property market, causing significant economic damage. Other former Evergrande executives, including Hui’s two sons Xu Zhijian and Xu Tenghe, received jail terms ranging from 22 months to 18 years, according to Chinese state media. Once ranked as Asia’s richest man, Hui has watched his fortune and influence collapse alongside his company. Also known as Xu Jiayin, he grew up in rural China raised by his grandmother before entering the property industry and founding Evergrande in 1996. He guided the company through a period of rapid expansion fueled by heavy borrowing, eventually building Evergrande into China’s largest real estate developer with a stock market valuation exceeding $50 billion, roughly £36.7 billion. At his peak, Hui held the distinction of being Asia’s wealthiest individual. The company suffered a major setback when Beijing introduced new measures in 2020 aimed at curbing debt across the property sector. As Evergrande struggled to keep up with interest payments, it began selling properties at steep discounts to stay afloat before ultimately collapsing in 2021. Court proceedings in April revealed that the company had taken in millions of dollars in pre sale funds from prospective homebuyers that were never used for the construction they were intended to finance. Instead, that money was redirected toward new development projects, leaving hundreds of housing projects unfinished. In March 2024, Hui was separately fined $6.5 million and banned for life from China’s capital markets after regulators found the company had overstated its revenue by $78 billion. Evergrande’s stock market value shrank by 99 percent before the company’s shares were delisted from the Hong Kong exchange in August 2025, ending more than fifteen years of trading. The company’s implosion is widely seen as a key trigger for the broader downturn in China’s property market that continues to weigh on the country’s economy. At its peak, Evergrande stood as the largest firm in an industry that accounted for roughly a third of China’s gross domestic product, serving as both a major driver of economic growth and a critical revenue source for local governments. The sector’s ongoing troubles have continued to pressure the world’s second largest economy, with several other major developers facing their own financial distress in the years since Evergrande’s fall.
