Dar condemns Houthi attack killing 3 Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has condemned a Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea, saying three Pakistani nationals were killed and another was injured in the incident.

Dar described the attack as a serious threat to innocent lives and maritime security. He expressed concern over the loss of Pakistani lives in the incident.

The foreign minister said the Pakistani government was in contact with relevant Saudi authorities and the Yemeni government to obtain further details about the attack.

He also directed Pakistan’s embassy in Riyadh to provide all possible assistance for the repatriation of the bodies of the deceased Pakistanis.

The embassy has also been instructed to facilitate the injured Pakistani citizen and ensure that all necessary assistance is provided.

The attack reportedly took place near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a strategically important maritime passage connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.

According to Yemeni government and coast guard sources, Houthi forces attacked a cargo vessel in the area.

The attack targeted the deck of the commercial ship. Three crew members were reportedly killed in the assault.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The waterway is a major international trade route used by cargo vessels travelling between Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Pakistan is continuing to coordinate with authorities in Saudi Arabia and Yemen to establish further details about the incident and assist the affected Pakistani nationals and their families.

Upon returning home, family members pointed out that the player’s chosen numbers, 2, 4, 8, 10, and 51, had indeed been drawn. After returning to the store, the family discovered that the bin had already been emptied by a municipal collection vehicle operated by local sanitation company SANB. The owner alerted SANB officials, who tracked down the specific bin lorry before its contents were transferred to a compactor or landfilled. “This story is nothing short of miraculous,” said Roberto Nicola Toscano, director of SANB, noting that because the incident occurred on a Sunday, the lorry’s contents had not yet been processed. Sanitation staff escorted the vehicle to a secure facility and spent two days sifting through a massive heap of municipal waste. On Tuesday morning, a refuse worker located the intact winning ticket inside a damaged bag. The lottery winner, who signed a formal agreement to cover the operational costs of the search effort, will receive the full prize sum following official validation.

    The Peshawar High Court has rejected asylum petitions filed by two former Afghan military officers seeking temporary protection and permission to remain in Pakistan. They requested permission to stay in Pakistan temporarily. They also sought extensions of their visas and protection from arrest, harassment and deportation. The former Afghan servicemen argued that returning to Afghanistan could expose them to serious threats to their lives because of their previous positions in the Afghan security establishment. According to court documents, Ghairat had worked as a special agent with the protective service of the former Afghan president. Sharifi had served as a general in the former Afghan National Army. The two petitioners submitted Afghan passports and other documents to support their requests. They also referred to their need for emergency medical treatment and temporary residence in Pakistan. Ghairat told the court that he had already submitted an online application seeking an extension of his Pakistani visa. After examining the petitions, the court ruled that the applicants had not established any violation of their fundamental constitutional rights. The court observed that fears about possible threats after returning to Afghanistan, without sufficient supporting evidence, could not by themselves justify intervention under Article 199 of the Constitution. The court also clarified that decisions concerning the stay of foreign nationals in Pakistan fall within the authority of the relevant government departments. It said matters involving the issuance, extension or cancellation of visas and immigration status are governed by applicable laws and are primarily handled by the executive authorities. The court therefore declined to grant the requested relief to the two former Afghan officers.

    Bangladeshi model Ridhika Ridhi found dead

    Bangladeshi model and actress Ridhika Ridhi was found dead at her residence in Dhaka on Saturday, according to Bangladeshi media reports. Ridhi was found in the Bashundhara residential area of the capital. Police said she was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan at around 6am. Family members and others reportedly took her to a nearby hospital soon after she was found. Doctors examined her after she arrived at the hospital. The doctors later confirmed that she had died. Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Vatara Police Station, said police received information about the incident and reached the hospital. According to the police official, Ridhi’s body was recovered at the hospital. Authorities have initially suspected that the actress may have died by suicide. However, police have not reached a final conclusion. An investigation is underway to determine what happened before her death. Police are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. They will also gather relevant information as part of the investigation. Ridhi was active in Bangladesh’s entertainment industry. She worked as a model and also appeared in television dramas.
