Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde accused the opposition of being “MIA” and “delulu,” while Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda mocked the government with the viral protest catchphrase “waste‑guna‑huiya.” BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having “clocked it” by introducing the bill, while Tejasvi Surya accused critics of being “delulu.”

The unusual moment underscored the influence of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical online collective that morphed into a protest movement over exam irregularities. Organised on WhatsApp and Telegram, and amplified through Instagram reels, the CJP drew thousands of young people into the streets with humour, memes and sardonic edits.

Digital anthropologist Payal Arora noted that borrowing Gen Z slang signals cultural awareness rather than political transformation. Political scientist Rahul Verma added that Indian politicians have long adopted popular culture references, from cricket metaphors to Bollywood catchphrases like “How’s the josh?”

Yet the government’s response has been uneasy. Authorities have sought removal of protest content and pursued cases against activists, prompting warnings from CJP leaders that they will return to the streets if charges are not dropped. Critics argue the irreverent humour trivialises serious issues, while supporters insist irony is simply the language of a generation raised online.

Whether parliament’s new lexicon endures remains uncertain. Internet slang evolves quickly, often disappearing as fast as it emerges. For many protesters, hearing politicians adopt their vocabulary was less impressive than seeing meaningful change. As one student put it: “Speaking our language isn’t going to impress us without accountability. That’s cringe.”

During the investigation, the suspect reportedly confessed to planning the crime nearly two months in advance and admitted that he had purchased a knife specifically to carry out the attack. Speaking to the media, Sandhya Sharma’s husband, Vicky Gurjar, said that his wife had previously worked at another school in Sirohi village where the accused had begun stalking and harassing her. According to him, the family had filed a police complaint regarding the harassment. However, he believes that if strict legal action had been taken at that time, the tragedy could have been prevented. Vicky Gurjar explained that he and Sandhya had entered into a love marriage and had built a happy family together. The couple had two young children—a seven-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter. He said the loss of his wife has devastated the family and left their children without their mother. According to police investigators, the suspect had been searching for an opportunity to kill Sandhya Sharma for a considerable period. On the day of the attack, he entered the school premises and allegedly called the teacher out of her classroom by using her husband’s name as a pretext. Once she stepped outside, he grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly stabbed her in the neck and chest. Police reported that she suffered more than 27 stab wounds and died at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. The investigation further revealed that Amit was allegedly obsessed with Sandhya Sharma and had developed one-sided feelings for her. However, she consistently ignored his advances and never encouraged him. Police said the victim had previously filed a complaint accusing him of harassment. At that time, the suspect reportedly apologized, and the matter did not result in stronger legal action. Investigators also stated that Sandhya later changed both her school and her residence in an effort to distance herself from the accused. Police believe this decision may have further angered the suspect and contributed to his determination to carry out the crime. According to police officials, the accused initially planned to attack the victim while she was traveling to or from school. However, fearing that he would be quickly identified and arrested, he abandoned that plan. Instead, he decided to commit the murder inside the school building, where he believed he would have a better opportunity to confront her. A senior police officer said the suspect was so enraged during the attack that he continued stabbing the victim even after the knife became bent. Police have recovered the murder weapon and are continuing efforts to locate the suspect’s motorcycle as well as the clothes he was wearing during the crime. Authorities also confirmed that the entire attack was captured on the school’s CCTV cameras. During the incident, the accused allegedly threatened a school employee who attempted to intervene and save the teacher. The CCTV footage is expected to serve as a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation. Police further stated that Amit is the youngest of three brothers. He was unemployed and earned a living by raising buffaloes and selling milk. The information was shared with parliament as part of a disclosure concerning the remuneration packages of senior executives at the state-owned exploration and production company. The figures show significant differences in the basic salaries of OGDC’s top management, with the company’s highest-paid official earning several million rupees each month before allowances and other facilities are added. According to the details presented in the Senate, Ahmed Hayat Lak, OGDC’s Managing Director and CEO, receives a basic monthly salary of Rs. 5,564,171. Chief Financial Officer Muhammad Anas Farooq earns Rs. 2,837,940 per month, while Executive Director Petroleum Muhammad Aamir Saleem receives Rs. 2,211,990. Among other executive directors, Shehzad Safdar, Executive Director Human Resources, has a basic monthly salary of Rs. 1,889,298. Zia Salahuddin, Executive Director Services, receives Rs. 1,849,433, while Atif Ghafoor Mirza, Executive Director Joint Ventures and Business Development, earns Rs. 1,893,434. The salaries of general managers are comparatively lower but still substantial. Khurram Shehraz, General Manager Internal Audit, receives Rs. 1,100,929 per month. Dr. Khalid Ameen Khan, General Manager Exploration, earns Rs. 900,881, while General Manager Production Habib Ullah Chohan receives Rs. 700,443. The company secretary, Waseem Ahmad, has a basic monthly salary of Rs. 607,754. In addition to their basic salaries, the ten senior officials are entitled to several allowances and facilities. These include a house-rent allowance equivalent to 45 percent of their basic salary and utilities allowance amounting to 10 percent of the basic pay. They are also provided with car and fuel facilities. After the applicable allowances are included, the monthly remuneration package of the OGDC managing director exceeds Rs. 8.6 million. The CFO’s overall monthly package is reported to be more than Rs. 4.4 million. The information presented to the Senate also showed that all ten officials have more than three decades of professional experience. Most of the executives were recruited through press advertisements and headhunters before being appointed by OGDC’s Board of Directors.     Iran’s parliament approved the general framework of a bill Sunday that would make it a crime to give interviews or engage in other communication with media outlets considered hostile to the Islamic Republic, including American or Israeli outlets and any media funded by either country, according to Iran’s Shargh newspaper. Osman Salari, a member of parliament’s judicial and legal commission, said individual provisions within the bill, which aims to counter what officials describe as foreign intelligence influence, still require separate debate and approval. He told the Mizan news agency that details reported so far about the bill should not be treated as final. Under the proposed legislation, interviews or participation in discussions with media deemed hostile would be banned outright, with violations carrying prison terms ranging from six months to two years. Interviews with other foreign media outlets would require advance notification to the intelligence ministry, while any contact with foreign embassies, offices of foreign organizations or other non Iranian institutions, conducted without notification and written permission from the foreign ministry, would draw fines and the loss of certain social rights. The bill would also increase penalties for economic crimes carried out under the direction or supervision of foreign actors, prohibit sharing information with foreigners without intelligence ministry approval, and limit scientific cooperation with foreign institutions to those on an approved list. It would further criminalize policy or legislative proposals made under the direction of foreign intelligence services if such proposals are found to harm Iran’s security or independence, with penalties reaching up to 30 years in prison. Cases brought under this provision would fall under the jurisdiction of Iran’s Revolutionary Courts. Parliament will now review the bill article by article. Once lawmakers approve a final text, the legislation must still pass review by the Guardian Council before it can take effect as law. This is not the first time Iran has moved to criminalize cooperation with foreign entities. A law passed in 2025, following a 12 day war with Israel, introduced harsher penalties for alleged cooperation with hostile states. Earlier this month, Iranian photojournalist Yalda Moaiery was sentenced to 15 years in prison under that law over accusations that included giving interviews to media considered hostile and supplying photographs to organizations linked to the United States and Israel.
