Ex-army chief Qamar Bajwa undergoes Dubai check-up

Former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa has been shifted to the United Arab Emirates for further medical examination and treatment.

Family sources said Bajwa is currently in the UAE. He travelled abroad after completing his initial treatment in Pakistan.

The former army chief was examined by a team of specialist doctors in Dubai. The doctors carried out a detailed medical check-up.

According to family sources, Bajwa’s condition has improved considerably after the medical examination. However, the results of some important medical tests are still awaited.

Doctors will review the remaining reports before giving their final recommendations. His further treatment and return to Pakistan will depend on the doctors’ advice.

Family sources said Bajwa will stay in the UAE for a few days. He will remain with his son during his stay in the country.

A final decision about his return to Pakistan will be taken after the doctors review all his medical reports. His family is also awaiting the doctors’ further instructions.

Bajwa had suffered serious injuries around four and a half months ago. He reportedly slipped and fell at his residence.

The accident caused injuries to his head and back. He was immediately shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi for treatment.

The former army chief remained admitted to the hospital for around three weeks. He received treatment under the supervision of military doctors.

At the time, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) officially confirmed that Bajwa had been injured after falling at his residence.

The military’s media wing said he was receiving treatment at CMH Rawalpindi. His condition was monitored by doctors during his stay at the hospital.

After completing his initial treatment in Pakistan, Bajwa later travelled to the UAE for further medical assessment.

His current stay in the UAE is expected to continue until doctors complete their assessment. The results of the pending tests will help determine the next course of treatment.

Family sources have not provided a specific date for his return to Pakistan. They said the decision will be made after consultation with doctors.

General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa served as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff from November 2016 to November 2022. He retired from the position after completing his tenure in November 2022.

    PBS revises import data after billions of dollars in discrepancies

    The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has revised the country’s monthly and annual import figures after uncovering major discrepancies in trade data, with the adjustments reaching billions of dollars over certain periods. The data revisions, which could amount to as much as $30 billion for some periods, are expected to have a notable impact on Pakistan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) calculations and other key economic indicators. The statistical agency has incorporated the updated import figures across several major sectors as part of the data reconciliation process. According to senior government officials, the PBS has completed a detailed report outlining the discrepancies and the methodology used to revise the import statistics. The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance, which is currently examining its potential implications. The ministry is expected to make the findings public by the end of August 2026.     Nine terrorists killed in Balochistan intelligence…

    More than nine terrorists have been killed in intelligence-based operations in different areas of Balochistan, according to security sources. The operations were conducted under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3. Security forces carried out targeted actions after receiving intelligence about the presence and movement of terrorists. A major intelligence-based operation was conducted in the mountainous area between Ziarat and Harnai. Security forces surrounded a suspected terrorist hideout after receiving credible intelligence. The operation resulted in the killing of eight terrorists. Their hideout was also destroyed during the action. Security forces also conducted an operation in Hajika village in Surab district. One terrorist was killed in the operation. According to security sources, the movement of terrorists between Dasht-e-Katai and Hajika had been detected before the operation. Security forces tracked their movement and launched the action after confirming their presence. Weapons and other equipment were recovered from the possession of the killed terrorists. The recovered items included ammunition, magazines, hand grenades, a walkie-talkie, a motorcycle and other material. Security sources said operations against terrorist groups would continue across Balochistan. They said security forces remained determined to eliminate terrorism and establish lasting peace in the province. The latest operations are part of continued efforts to prevent terrorist activities and disrupt militant networks. Security forces have intensified intelligence-based actions to target terrorist hideouts and movements. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for the successful operations. He said the personnel who foiled the terrorists’ plans deserved the nation’s appreciation. Naqvi said the operations reflected the security forces’ commitment to protecting national security. He added that the nation stood firmly with the security forces in the fight against terrorism. The interior minister said operations against Fitna al-Hindustan and Fitna al-Khawarij were continuing. He made it clear that such actions would continue until the threat of terrorism was eliminated.

  • Govt probes drug price hikes

    The Pakistani government has asked pharmaceutical companies to explain steep increases in the prices of deregulated medicines after concerns over rising healthcare costs. According to sources the prices of some deregulated medicines have increased by as little as 76.8% and by as much as 1,621%, prompting government action. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued show cause notices to 37 pharmaceutical companies that raised the prices of certain medicines by more than 50%. Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said he had directed officials to issue notices to the companies. They have been asked to explain why they increased medicine prices by such large amounts. Sources said that 12 of the 37 companies have already submitted replies regarding price increases for 35 medicines. Two companies have requested more time to respond. However 23 companies have not yet replied to the notices. Reminder notices have now been sent to them. Officials say the government will decide its next steps after reviewing responses from all the pharmaceutical companies.

    LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana chaired a high-level performance review meeting of the Model Town and Cantt divisions, issuing directives for a comprehensive crackdown on social crimes, display of arms and the culture of hooliganism. The meeting evaluated crime prevention strategies, the quality of police investigations, the overall law and order situation and public service delivery across both divisions. Ordering the formulation of a foolproof security plan for the upcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi(SAWW) processions and religious gatherings, the CCPO directed officers to deploy robust security measures along sensitive locations, gathering spots, and traditional procession routes. Assigning the task of eradicating social crimes directly to SSP (Operations) Abdullah Ahmed, CCPO Lahore emphasized a stern, across-the-board crackdown against lawbreakers. He issued strict instructions to target aerial firing, brandishing of weapons and the so-called “Dalla culture” , reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against anyone disrupting public peace. “Protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the foremost duty of the police force. Field officers must personally oversee field operations to eradicate crime,” he said, directing officials to accelerate action against proclaimed offenders and habitual criminals using all available resources. Underscoring procedural compliance, the CCPO stated that the timely registration of First Information Reports (FIRs) is a fundamental right of every citizen and must be ensured without exception. He warned that negligence or delay in addressing public grievances would not be tolerated, directing supervisory officers to rigorously monitor cases to raise investigation standards.
