The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Peshawar Zone has arrested five suspects during raids against alleged illegal foreign currency exchange and Hawala/Hundi operations in Timargara Bazaar, Lower Dir.

According to FIA officials, the suspects were allegedly operating unauthorized currency exchange and money transfer businesses without the required licences. Separate cases have been registered against the arrested individuals under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA).

During the raids, investigators recovered Pakistani and foreign currency worth millions of rupees. The seized cash included Rs49.336 million in Pakistani currency, 158 million Iranian rials, 20,521 Saudi riyals, 3,000 UAE dirhams and 700 Polish zloty.

The FIA said the suspects were allegedly involved in unauthorized foreign exchange dealings and illegal transfer of funds through Hawala/Hundi networks. Such activities violate Pakistan’s laws governing foreign exchange and financial transactions.

The latest action forms part of the FIA Peshawar Zone’s ongoing crackdown on unauthorized currency dealers and illegal money-transfer networks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials said such operations are aimed at curbing activities linked to money laundering, currency smuggling and other financial crimes.

The agency has launched further investigations to determine the source and intended destination of the recovered funds. Investigators are also working to identify other people who may be connected with the alleged illegal operations.

He mentioned that around four to five bins would soon be set up to help tackle the litter issue directly. Beyond the environmental message, Afridi also used his visit to highlight requests from local children. He said kids in the area had approached him with one simple wish, a cricket pitch where they could finally play the sport they love. He said he would try to get the pitch built before Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, calling it a small but meaningful gesture. Afridi added that the children had specifically asked for this before the national holiday. The move reflects Afridi’s continued involvement in community-focused efforts, particularly those aimed at supporting children and improving facilities in underserved regions.

    Punjab CTD arrests 54 terror suspects

    The Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested 54 suspected terrorists, including five individuals alleged to have links with India’s intelligence agency, RAW, during a series of intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted across the province over the past two months. According to the CTD, a total of 419 intelligence-led operations were carried out in multiple districts to counter potential terrorist threats. During these operations, authorities questioned 422 individuals and detained 54 suspects believed to be associated with banned militant organisations. Officials said the five suspects accused of having links with RAW were identified as Waris Khan, Danish Ali, Roz Ali Khan, Wilayat Shah and Muhammad Aziz. The arrests were made in Lahore and Okara, while investigations into their alleged activities are continuing. The CTD stated that those taken into custody are suspected of having affiliations with several proscribed groups, including Fitna al-Khawarij, Daesh, Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Sipah-e-Sahaba and other outlawed organisations. The operations were conducted in several districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Pakpattan and Bahawalpur, as part of an ongoing campaign against terrorism. Authorities said a significant cache of weapons, explosives and other materials was recovered during the raids. The seized items included 7.9 kilograms of explosive material, 12 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 50 detonators, safety fuse wire, pistols, rifles, ammunition, banned literature, pamphlets, flags, mobile phones and cash. The CTD also highlighted its wider security efforts, saying that during the past eight weeks it carried out more than 13,500 combing operations in coordination with local police and other law enforcement agencies. Nearly 495,000 people were screened during these operations, resulting in more than 1,100 arrests and over 1,000 registered cases.

He called for stronger cooperation among the ministry’s institutions and directed their heads to adopt comprehensive measures to strengthen data protection and cybersecurity. He said modernising the institutions and bringing them in line with contemporary requirements remained a key priority. Naqvi also asked the heads of all affiliated institutions to submit comprehensive two-year transformation plans for their respective organisations. He said the government aims to transform every institution under the Ministry of Interior along modern lines and improve its overall efficiency. “The goal is to make every institution under the Ministry of Interior exemplary and public-friendly,” Naqvi said, stressing the need to set clear targets and ensure their timely achievement to provide citizens with better facilities and quality services. The minister also highlighted the performance of the ministry’s institutions during the Hajj operation, noting that the absence of any reported drug-smuggling case during the operation reflected improved performance and stronger enforcement measures. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also addressed the meeting and said a culture of poor performance had previously existed in federal institutions. He said the government had taken steps to change that mindset and was now focusing on target-based, result-oriented and performance-driven work. Chaudhry stressed that all institutions must focus on measurable outcomes, improve efficiency and work collectively to deliver better services to the public.
