Foreign Man Goes Berserk and goes on Knife Rampage in Bangkok Soi, Stabs Police Officer Before Being Shot

Bangkok, July 24th 2026

An unidentified foreign man went on a violent rampage in a residential soi in eastern Bangkok on Friday afternoon, smashing shop windows and chasing residents with a knife before stabbing a police officer and being shot by responding officers.

The incident occurred around 16:30 in Soi Phatthanakan 43 in the Suan Luang subdistrict. According to reports, the man, described as tall, dark skinned, and large-built, entered a state of extreme agitation, vandalizing shop fronts by breaking glass while screaming and threatening random bystanders, and then pursuing members of the public while armed with a knife.

Officers from Khlong Tan Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the area, received the initial alert shortly after 16:15 and dispatched a patrol unit. When police attempted to intervene and calmly deescalate the situation, the suspect stabbed one officer, who was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Responding officers then tried to subdue the man with a taser, which proved ineffective. The foreign man then reportedly tried to attack Thai police again despite many warnings to stop resisting and they then opened fire with live ammunition. Thai media in the area reported that the man was hit by one round in the abdomen and two in the thighs. Some local accounts indicated a total of approximately six shots were fired before he was brought under control.

The suspect sustained serious injuries. Rescue volunteers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation provided first aid at the scene and requested an advanced life-support ambulance. Both the injured officer and the suspect were receiving medical attention as of press time.

Police have not yet publicly released the man’s identity, nationality or possible motive. The investigation is ongoing and this is a developing story.

Pakistan slams Houthi threats to Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s threats against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, describing the actions as a serious threat to regional peace, international trade and maritime security. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Foreign Office said Pakistan unequivocally rejects the continued threats directed at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and vessels involved in lawful commercial activities. It stressed that freedom of navigation and the uninterrupted movement of global trade must be protected at all costs. The statement came after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia. The group declared that ships linked to the kingdom could become targets, saying the move was a response to what it described as Saudi actions in Yemen. Pakistan said any threat to commercial shipping violates international law and undermines the rules-based maritime order. The Foreign Office warned that such actions not only endanger regional security but also put global commerce and energy supplies at risk. Islamabad expressed particular concern over reports that commercial vessels trading with Saudi Arabia could be targeted. The Foreign Office said attacks or threats against civilian shipping are unacceptable and could have serious consequences for international trade. Reaffirming its commitment to protecting national interests, Pakistan warned that any hostile act against Pakistani-flagged ships or Pakistan’s maritime assets would be treated as a grave threat to the country’s sovereignty and national security. The statement added that Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures, including lawful self-defense under the United Nations Charter and international law, to protect its maritime interests if required. Pakistan also voiced concern over attempts to widen the ongoing Middle East conflict by dragging Saudi Arabia into the regional confrontation. The Foreign Office reiterated Islamabad’s unwavering support for the security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The government urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation. It called for dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful solutions to resolve disputes while emphasizing the importance of protecting international shipping routes. The Foreign Office stressed that ensuring the safety of maritime trade is essential for global economic stability. It said uninterrupted navigation through international waterways is critical for maintaining the flow of energy supplies and commercial goods across the world. The Houthi announcement has raised fresh concerns among governments and shipping companies over the security of the Red Sea, one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait serves as a vital gateway connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is a key route for oil exports from the Gulf to international markets.

Lab report finds 176 substandard samples of oil, g…

ISLAMABAD: A laboratory assessment has found that 176 out of 491 samples of packaged edible oil, ghee and milk failed to meet national quality standards. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Planning, a total of 491 samples of packaged cooking oil, ghee and milk products were tested. Of these, 315 samples were found to comply with national standards, while 176 were declared substandard. The ministry said approximately 36% of the tested samples failed to meet the required quality standards. The assessment showed significant variations across different products. Of the 204 samples of vanaspati ghee tested, 98 were found to be below the required standards. Similarly, 40 out of 146 samples of blended cooking oil failed the quality assessment, while 26 of 104 samples of packaged liquid milk were declared substandard. The report also found quality concerns in milk powder, refined palm oil and refined canola oil. Eight of the 18 milk powder samples failed to meet national standards, while three of four refined palm oil samples were found to be substandard. In the case of refined canola oil, one out of 13 tested samples did not meet the required standards. The findings have highlighted concerns over the quality of commonly consumed food products and the need for stronger monitoring and enforcement to ensure that packaged edible oils, ghee and dairy products available in the market comply with national quality requirements.

Justice delayed for 40 years is injustice, says Mu…

Prominent religious scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman has called for urgent reforms in Pakistan’s justice and economic systems, saying that a legal framework that fails to deliver justice for decades cannot be considered fair. Addressing a gathering in Karachi on Tuesday, Mufti Muneeb said prolonged court cases lasting 40 years amount to injustice and place an enormous burden on ordinary citizens. He stressed that timely justice is essential for social stability and public trust in institutions. The scholar also urged those in power to focus on resolving Pakistan’s domestic challenges. He said leaders often discuss global issues, but greater attention should be given to pressing national matters, particularly economic concerns affecting millions of people. Referring to the energy sector, Mufti Muneeb called for a solution to issues related to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which have frequently been debated in Pakistan due to their impact on electricity costs and the national economy. He further highlighted the country’s financial difficulties, saying that after payments related to provincial allocations and debt obligations, limited resources remain for development and public welfare. Speaking at the same event, Maulana Bashir Farooqi expressed concern over the continuation of the interest-based banking system. He said there was a need for serious efforts to move toward alternative financial models and added that his organization was prepared to help train employees of conventional banks if reforms were introduced. The remarks come amid ongoing debates in Pakistan over judicial reforms, economic challenges and proposals for changes in the financial system.

Who controls Senate Housing Society? Senate panel raises alarm over alleged private takeover

Islamabad: A Senate committee raised serious questions over the management of the Senate Employees Housing Cooperative Society after complaints emerged that Senate employees were still waiting to receive possession of their plots, while the society was allegedly controlled by people who were not its actual members. The Senate Sub Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control took strict notice of the complaints during a meeting held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator Saifullah Abro. The committee questioned how a housing society created for Senate employees could remain outside the control of its own members. Senator Saifullah Abro directed authorities to take action against anyone found illegally managing the society and said the rights of Senate employees must be protected. “Only the legitimate members of the society should control its affairs,” the committee observed while demanding transparency and accountability. Officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed the committee that a criminal case had already been registered against the management of the Senate Housing Society on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. However, the committee stated the matter required further investigation and directed FIA officials to provide a fresh report on the society’s current management within one week. The committee members expressed concern over reports that employees who were supposed to benefit from the housing project had not yet received possession of their plots. They questioned why the employees were still facing difficulties despite the society being established for their welfare. The committee made it clear that no individual or private group would be allowed to control the housing society if they had no legal authority to do so. Senator Saifullah Abro said strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in unlawful management or activities. The committee said its main goal was to ensure that Senate employees receive their rightful benefits and that the society operates according to the law. The committee will review the matter again after the FIA submits its updated report.
