Fuel light on? How far can you drive?

Running out of fuel while driving can leave you stranded so it is important to pay attention when the fuel warning light appears on your dashboard.

Many drivers wonder how far they can travel once this light turns on.  The answer depends on several factors including your car’s model age fuel efficiency driving style road conditions and weather.

Experts say the fuel warning light usually comes on when only about 10% to 15% of the fuel tank is left.

In most cases small cars can still travel around 20 to 30 miles (32 to 48 km) after the warning light appears.

Larger vehicles may be able to drive up to 50 miles (80 km) before running out of fuel. However older vehicles rough roads heavy traffic or cold weather can reduce that distance because the engine uses more fuel in these conditions.

Experts also warn that repeatedly driving until the tank is nearly empty may damage the fuel system or engine over time.

While driving a few extra miles after the warning light comes on is usually safe it is always best to refill your tank as soon as possible.

Save money and reduce food waste With food prices rising weekly meal planning can also help control household spending.  Once the menu is decided you can make a shopping list and buy only the ingredients you actually need. This can reduce unnecessary shopping prevent food waste and make grocery spending easier to manage. Most importantly planning meals in advance can make daily life less stressful and finally put an end to the never ending question: “What should we cook today?”

    Why young minds internalize being a burden

    When a child begins to internalize the belief that their presence is an obstacle, the transformation rarely happens in an explosive moment. Instead, it is a gradual, quiet erosion of their sense of self-worth. Recent reports surrounding youth mental health have drawn urgent attention to how children absorb socio-economic pressure, domestic tension, and emotional distress. The youth has convinced themselves that their families would simply be better off without them. Psychological research identifies a specific mindset known as perceived burdensomeness. It’s the distorted cognitive belief that one’s existence imposes an unmanageable drain on loved ones.  Adults often process household stress out loud through financial worries or fatigue. However, children are acute observers but poor interpreters of these adult struggles. When young minds witness prolonged arguments over money, household strain, or family burnout, they frequently externalize the blame onto themselves. Rather than recognizing systemic or situational issues, a child’s natural self-referential worldview leads to a heartbreaking conclusion. If I weren’t here, my parents wouldn’t be so stressed. Triggers for Emotional Withdrawal in Children  Hearing constant worry over basic living costs or healthcare expenses. Feeling as though love or acceptance is tied strictly to high achievement or complete emotional compliance. When overwhelmed caregivers unintentionally treat basic parenting duties as exhausting chores. Receiving persistent feedback that their emotional or physical needs are too much to handle. How Burden Beliefs Manifest in Everyday Behavior Unlike adults, who might voice feelings of worthlessness directly, children express this weight through shifts in conduct. Identifying these subtle indicators early can make the difference between early intervention and severe psychological crisis. From Obligation to Belonging Addressing this internal crisis requires shifting household culture from transactional survival to unconditional emotional safety. Child mental health advocates emphasize that reassurance must go beyond simple verbal praise. It requires active, structural validation within the home. A child needs to know that their value isn’t dependent on their convenience to adults. Love is not a debt they owe back to the family, but a foundation they stand upon. Explicitly reassure children that adult challenges such as bills, jobs, or adult relationships are strictly the responsibility of grown-ups. Validate their requests for help, space, or care as healthy and welcome parts of growing up. Spend unhurried, non-evaluative time together where no performance or chore is expected. Rebuilding a child’s foundational sense of belonging takes consistency, but by recognizing the early signals of perceived burdensomeness, parents and educators can intervene before silence turns into deep-seated trauma.  

  • AI Cannot Replace Expertise

    By Arooba Younas The surge in the use of Artificial Intelligence by businesses, corporations, and organisations has been illustrated by the latest McKinsey Global Survey on the state of AI. Accordingly, 88 per cent of organisations reported the regular use of AI in at least one business function, a 10 per cent increase from the results of the survey conducted in the preceding year. Indicative of business leaders’ desire to boost productivity and reduce operational costs, companies adopted AI to achieve greater efficiency. The reverberations of AI integration are felt in the splintering of the organisational pyramid, driven by the expansion of what a single individual can accomplish. However, flattening hierarchies is not tantamount to flattening skill hierarchies or democratisation of expertise. Research has shown that Generative AI (GenAI) has the greatest impact on the level of expertise required to perform jobs, resulting in an accelerated learning curve for entry-level workers. Whilst shortening the learning curve and the time it takes novices to gain competence at new tasks, the limits of GenAI in upskilling workers have been revealed in an experiment conducted by researchers from Harvard Business School’s Data Design Institute and Stanford University, involving 78 employees from IG Group, a UK-based fintech company. Dividing the employees into three groups of occupational insiders (professional writers), adjacent outsiders (marketing specialists), and distant outsiders (technologists), the experiment attempted to gauge whether marketing specialists and technologists could match the performance of professional writers in conceptualising and drafting articles for IG Group’s website while receiving GenAI assistance. The results revealed that AI levelled the playing field at the conceptualisation stage. However, when the nature of the task shifted to executing the ideas by putting them in writing, a prominent expertise gap emerged. Both with and without GenAI’s help, the writers produced the best work, with marketers coming close and technologists lagging behind regardless of AI use. The divergence in performance, despite AI support, is a portrayal of the “GenAI Wall”, depicting the point at which GenAI does not sufficiently reduce the expertise gap between occupational insiders and outsiders. This is indicative of GenAI’s limit in how far it can carry workers outside their domain expertise. Without foundational knowledge, it becomes difficult for outsiders to distinguish between effective and flawed suggestions generated by GenAI. As a result, they may rely on its outputs without applying the necessary refinement, critical judgement and contextual understanding. Nonetheless, the experiment has implications for business organisations, particularly for leaders who overestimate the abilities of AI. It can only hasten the competency of individuals who are adjacent to a domain, and not conjure expertise out of thin air. In this regard, work structure, which is already undergoing change, can be rethought along the lines of expertise. A more fluid work environment can be created, where, in lieu of strict job roles, boundaries can blur by converging adjacent specialists. However, the experiment is not an advocacy for hiring fewer novices. Studies have shown a reduction in entry-level role postings, falling by 32 per cent in 2025 compared to 2019-2022. This suggests a myopic conclusion drawn from GenAI’s putative capabilities, for it is beginners who, when assimilated into the company’s culture and learn through practice, become experts. By thwarting the pipeline of learners by letting AI take over early-career work, which actually led to the making of experts, today’s efficiency may be sacrificed for impoverished talent tomorrow. The latter has been represented by the AI boomerang effect – recent AI-related layoffs, which are now being quietly reversed – as reports indicated employers regretting layoff decisions. This is because of AI hallucinations as well as its inadequacy to replace the required context or institutional knowledge, which human employees possessed. Although the IG Group experiment was conducted in a Western context, its implications can be generalised across the world, particularly as the allure of AI has diffused across continents. However, the embracing of AI in the Global South, whether in businesses or other sectors, has to be accompanied by digital literacy, localised governance, and a research ecosystem. This is significant lest the adoption of AI brings with it downsides in the form of overdependence and a putative magic bullet solution to solving complex issues ranging from bad governance to climate-related disasters. Additionally, GenAI’s exposure to the labour market has caused faster materialisation of disruptions rather than productivity gains due to a higher risk of job losses, as AI-driven automation can close clerical and administrative positions, which have historically served as pathways to decent work. Conclusively, GenAI has brought the promise of enabling individuals to bridge their capability gaps. However, AI cannot replace expertise or be an all-encompassing fix because it relies on pattern recognition rather than understanding real-world context. The authorities should take urgent measures to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply, improve water availability, and plant more trees to reduce the effects of extreme heat. Public awareness about staying safe during heatwaves should also be promoted. The people of Turbat deserve timely action before this severe weather causes more health problems. I hope the concerned authorities will address this issue without delay

    A father’s unusual way of helping his young daughter stop eating junk food has gone viral on social media. According to the viral story the trick worked and the little girl completely gave up junk food. The video quickly spread across social media and received mixed reactions. Some people praised the father’s creative idea while others said it is better to explain the benefits of healthy eating instead of frightening children.

    Garlic is not the only food with useful nutrients. Roti especially whole wheat roti can also provide important nutrients and may have some benefits when eaten after cooling. May help control blood sugar When cooked roti cools down some of its starch can change into resistant starch.  Research has found that roti kept for about 24 hours may contain more resistant starch than fresh roti. This type of starch is digested differently from regular starch and may help reduce the rise in blood sugar after a meal.  However more research is still needed. Good for digestion resistant starch can support healthy bacteria in the large intestine.  If the roti is made from whole wheat flour its fiber may also help prevent constipation and support better digestion. Keeps you full for longer The fiber and resistant starch in roti may help you feel full for a longer time.  Eating it with healthy foods such as yogurt eggs or vegetables can make it a more balanced breakfast. A nutritious breakfast option Whole-wheat roti contains fiber vitamins and minerals making it a useful part of a healthy and balanced breakfast. Important note Stale roti is not automatically healthier than fresh roti.  Its nutritional value depends on the type of flour how the roti is prepared and how safely it is stored. Always make sure stored roti is kept properly to avoid spoilage.
