Girls shine in BISE Faisalabad Matric results

FAISALABAD: Female students delivered an outstanding performance in the annual Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Faisalabad, securing the top positions in the overall merit list.

According to the results announced by the board, Umna Salahuddin emerged as the overall topper with an impressive 1,191 marks. Ramin Fatima secured the second overall position with 1,190 marks, while Muhammad Raif Abdul Ahad stood third with 1,189 marks.

In the Science Group (Boys), Muhammad Raif Abdul Ahad claimed first place by scoring 1,189 marks. Muhammad Ali Kaleem finished second with 1,184 marks, while Moeed Naveed and Muhammad Abdullah shared third position after obtaining 1,183 marks each.

The Science Group (Girls) was dominated by Umna Salahuddin, who secured first place with 1,191 marks. Ramin Fatima followed in second place with 1,190 marks. Four students—Zumar Fatima, Rabail Fatima, Khirat Fatima, and Dania Rasool—jointly secured third position with 1,188 marks each.

In the General Group (Boys), Muhammad Saim Ali topped the category with 1,089 marks. Muhammad secured second place with 1,082 marks, while Abdul Quddus finished third with 1,066 marks.

Among the General Group (Girls), Anshrah claimed first position with 1,133 marks. Rabbia Tariq secured second place with 1,119 marks, while Kinza Ali earned third position with 1,118 marks.

The BISE Faisalabad administration announced the names of the position holders during a ceremony held ahead of the detailed result declaration. Education officials congratulated the high achievers and praised the dedication of students, teachers, and parents, expressing confidence that the remarkable results would motivate future candidates to strive for academic excellence.

    ISLAMABAD: Residents of Islamabad will have an opportunity to watch a selection of Russian films for free this weekend at Centaurus Mall. The event, organised with the support of the Russian Embassy, will feature screenings of four Russian movies. Organisers said admission will be free, but seating will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The organisers clarified that the event is open to the general public and is not restricted to invited guests. No seats will be reserved for embassy officials, special guests or any particular group. Visitors can choose to attend any of the four scheduled movie screenings. Families are also welcome to attend the event, providing they follow the age restrictions applicable to individual films. Organisers have particularly advised visitors to check the age classification before attending. Two of the movies are intended exclusively for adult audiences and will not be suitable for children. The film screenings are aimed at providing residents with an opportunity to experience Russian cinema and explore its cultural and artistic themes in an informal setting. Visitors are also permitted to take photographs and record videos during the event. However, they have been requested to respect other audience members and avoid creating disturbances. Guests have been asked not to use flashlights or make excessive noise while taking photographs or videos, so that the screenings can continue without disruption

    ECC approves Rs4.188bn PASSCO compensation package

    The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a Rs4.188 billion compensation package for employees of the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO). The decision is part of the government’s plan to wind up PASSCO. The process is also linked to the disposal of the corporation’s wheat stocks. The government has set December 2026 as the deadline for completing the process. The ECC directed that the winding-up process must be independently reviewed. A third party will validate the process to ensure transparency and compliance with the approved plan. The committee also stressed the need to dispose of PASSCO’s wheat stocks as soon as possible. Officials said the early disposal of the stocks would help implement the employee compensation package on time. The Ministry of National Food Security and Research assured the ECC that the process would be completed by December. The government began work on the closure of PASSCO in 2025. The Prime Minister’s Office had directed the finance minister to oversee the process in consultation with the relevant ministry. A meeting chaired by the finance minister later decided that a severance package should be prepared for PASSCO employees. The package was designed along the lines of the voluntary separation scheme approved for employees of the Utility Stores Corporation. PASSCO’s Board of Directors subsequently approved the revised compensation package. The scheme covers regular employees as well as contractual and daily-wage workers. It includes severance compensation and several terminal benefits. These include leave encashment and a farewell grant. The package also provides maintenance support for widows and retired employees through PASSCO’s Benevolent Fund. The ECC had previously approved the winding up of PASSCO. It also approved the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle called the Wheat Stock Management Company (WSMC) Public Limited. The federal cabinet later ratified the decision. The total cost of the employee package is estimated at Rs4.188 billion. Around Rs3.967 billion has been allocated for severance compensation and terminal benefits for PASSCO employees. Another Rs221 million has been set aside for maintenance grants. The amount will benefit 38 widows and 236 retired employees.

    Pakistan blames Afghan-based militants for rising …

    Islamabad: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that banned militant groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), are operating from Afghan territory under the protection of the Afghan Taliban. Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, Dar described terrorism originating from Afghanistan as a serious threat to regional peace and stability. He said these militant groups continue to carry out attacks from across the border, posing a major security challenge for Pakistan. Dar stated that Pakistan has witnessed more than 2,000 terrorist attacks so far this year, resulting in the deaths of over 560 civilians. He also claimed that evidence had emerged linking some Afghan nationals to several of these attacks. The foreign minister urged SCO member states to call on the Afghan Taliban to fulfill their counterterrorism commitments and prevent Afghan territory from being used by militant organizations. Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, Dar said dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect remain the only sustainable solutions to regional disputes. He highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting diplomatic engagement and stressed the importance of supporting ongoing peace initiatives. Dar also noted that Pakistan hosted talks between Iran and the United States in April 2026, which, according to him, led to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in June 2026. He urged the international community to support diplomatic efforts while remaining vigilant against attempts to undermine the peace process. Looking ahead, Dar said Pakistan will assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State in September 2026 and host the SCO Summit in 2027. During its chairmanship, Pakistan plans to prioritize regional connectivity, trade, agricultural cooperation, youth exchanges, and stronger people-to-people ties. On the sidelines of the SCO meeting, Dar also met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and efforts to promote peace and stability. Dar emphasized the need for restraint, de-escalation, and continued diplomatic engagement in addressing regional challenges, while both sides agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of mutual interest.

    QUETTA: Security forces have killed 15 terrorists during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted across several districts of Balochistan, security sources said on Sunday. The operations were carried out under the ongoing Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3, targeting militant networks in Mastung, Bolan, Washuk, Awaran, Sibi, Khuzdar, Harnai and Noshki. According to security sources, the operations were launched following intelligence about the presence and movement of militants in the targeted areas. A significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered during the actions. Officials said the operations dealt a major blow to militant networks and disrupted their ability to move and operate across parts of the province. Security forces, they added, remain committed to continuing intelligence-driven operations until terrorist activity is eliminated. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for what he described as successful operations against militant groups. He commended the personnel for their professionalism and said the government would continue supporting efforts to counter terrorism. The latest operations come amid heightened security concerns in Balochistan, where militant attacks have targeted both civilians and security installations.
