Govinda recalls how he inspired Salman Khan before Partner

Indian actor Govinda once opened up about a difficult phase in Salman Khan’s life before the two actors came together for their successful comedy film Partner. According to Govinda, Salman was going through a period of personal pain and emotional distress at the time, which had made him unusually quiet and withdrawn.

Recalling their interaction before the shooting of the 2007 film, Govinda said he felt the need to speak to Salman and encourage him. He believed that when a person is struggling with personal issues, whether related to love, expectations or disappointment, it can become difficult for anyone else to help them overcome their emotions.

Govinda remembered telling Salman that he had spent enough time focusing on things outside himself and now needed to look inward. He encouraged the actor to concentrate on his own well-being and work on rebuilding his confidence.

The veteran actor also spoke to Salman about his physical fitness. Govinda recalled that he himself was going through a challenging period and weighed around 114 kilograms after stepping away from politics. Despite his own struggles, he tried to motivate Salman and remind him of his potential.

Govinda reportedly told Salman that he did not look like a typical hero at that point because he appeared unhappy and sad. Rather than allowing himself to remain trapped in that difficult phase, Salman was encouraged to move forward and regain his confidence.

According to Govinda, Salman asked him what he should do next. In response, Govinda advised him to exercise regularly for several hours each day. He also reminded Salman of the qualities that made him special as an actor and a leading man.

Govinda compared Salman’s potential with that of legendary actor Dharmendra. He believed Salman had been blessed with a supportive family, a good appearance, personality and the qualities needed to become a major star. His advice was not simply about improving Salman’s physical appearance but also about helping him rediscover his confidence and strength.

Govinda further recalled making a prediction about Salman’s career at the time. He told him that he believed he would continue to rule the film industry for the next 10 years. Looking back, Govinda said Salman ultimately proved that prediction right through his continued success and popularity.

Their professional association later became particularly memorable through Partner, directed by David Dhawan. Released on July 20, 2007, the romantic comedy starred Salman Khan and Govinda in the lead roles, with the two actors developing a popular on-screen partnership.

The film went on to become a notable commercial success and remains remembered for the chemistry and comic timing between its two leading stars. Govinda’s recollection of his conversations with Salman offers another glimpse into the relationship between the actors before they appeared together on screen.

His advice also reflected the importance of self-confidence, discipline and perseverance during difficult periods. For Salman, that phase eventually became part of a larger journey that saw him strengthen his image as one of Bollywood’s most prominent stars.

SBP appoints 10 primary dealers for FY27

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has appointed 10 financial institutions as Primary Dealers (PDs) and two institutions as Special Purpose Primary Dealers (SPDs) for the fiscal year 2026-27. The appointments will strengthen the government’s domestic borrowing programme and support the country’s financial market. The government continues to rely heavily on domestic borrowing to finance its fiscal requirements. In this system, primary dealers play an important role by participating in government debt auctions and helping raise funds through Treasury Bills and Pakistan Investment Bonds. According to the central bank, United Bank Limited (UBL), National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), and Bank Alfalah secured the top three positions among primary dealers during the fiscal year 2025-26. Their rankings were based on overall performance in government securities auctions and market activities. The 10 institutions selected as Primary Dealers for FY2026-27 are United Bank Limited, National Bank of Pakistan, Bank Alfalah, Habib Bank Limited, Habib Metropolitan Bank, MCB Bank, The Bank of Punjab, Pak Oman Investment Company, JS Bank, and Citi Bank NA Pakistan Branch. The State Bank has also appointed the Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited (CDC) and the National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) as Special Purpose Primary Dealers for the new fiscal year. The appointments were made after evaluating applications submitted by financial institutions under the eligibility criteria laid down in the Primary Dealer System Rules. The central bank had invited applications for the new fiscal year through a circular issued earlier this year. Primary dealers are responsible for purchasing government securities directly from the central bank during auctions. They then distribute these securities among commercial banks, financial institutions and other investors. Their participation ensures that government borrowing operations continue without disruption. These institutions also play an important role in the secondary market by providing liquidity and facilitating the buying and selling of government securities. Their presence helps improve market efficiency and contributes to transparent price discovery. The role of primary dealers has become increasingly important as Pakistan continues to depend on domestic sources to meet its financing needs. Through their participation in debt auctions, they help the government raise funds while supporting stability in the country’s financial system.

Japanese influencer dies by suicide amid online trolling

A Japanese influencer living in South Korea reportedly died by suicide during a TikTok livestream, following intense online trolling and criticism. According to international media reports, Mina-chan was found dead at her residence in Seoul on August 5 after viewers alerted police during a livestream. Yongsan Police responded to the report and found her body at the scene. Mina-chan was a popular TikTok creator and a fan of K-pop group ENHYPEN. She had around 80,000 followers on the platform. Trump Media charges traders up to $100,000 monthly…

More than ten firms have signed on to pay for Trump Media’s newly launched service that grants faster access to market moving posts published on its Truth Social platform, the company disclosed during an earnings call this week. The service, called Truth API, went live at the start of August and gives Wall Street traders early visibility into posts from the platform’s most influential accounts before the general public sees them. Interim chief executive Kevin McGurn said the earliest subscribers are largely high frequency trading firms, which pay between $60,000 and $100,000 a month for the access. McGurn detailed the pricing during a call held after Trump Media reported a net loss of $238 million for the April through June quarter, a figure more than ten times larger than the loss the company posted during the same period a year earlier. The steep quarterly loss comes as Trump Media and Technology Group has expanded into ventures far removed from its original media business, including cryptocurrency holdings. Despite still operating at a loss overall, the company says it intends to refocus on its core social media mission going forward. In July, the firm unveiled plans to offer Wall Street firms and institutional investors expedited access to posts on Truth Social, a platform where President Trump regularly shares public announcements. Critics have described the arrangement as a potential edge for subscribers looking to trade stocks and other actively traded assets ahead of market moving news. The initiative has also raised legal and ethical questions, particularly around the fact that a company in which the president’s family holds a majority stake could financially benefit from his own public statements reaching paying subscribers faster than the general public. In its earnings statement released Monday, Trump Media described the new offering as a service expected to generate a new revenue stream for the company. McGurn said executives believe the product will grow into a meaningful and durable source of income alongside the company’s broader media strategy, which already includes advertising and digital asset ventures. He added that Truth Media is also exploring potential partnerships with technology companies, news organizations and betting markets. The company reported revenue of $1.7 million for the quarter, an 89 percent increase compared with the same period last year, though the overall loss stemmed largely from declining cryptocurrency values. Trump Media said it closed the quarter holding total assets of $2 billion, including roughly $1.9 billion in financial assets made up of cash, short term investments and digital currencies. The firm continues to expand into new territory, including additional cryptocurrency holdings and clean energy investments. Markus Thielen, an analyst at 10x Research, described Trump Media as functioning more like a crypto holdings firm wrapped around a media company, noting that the bulk of its recent losses trace back to that crypto focused strategy. He said the company is working to diversify beyond its digital asset exposure into areas like social media services, though those newer ventures have not yet produced significant revenue. Earlier this month, Trump Media abandoned a planned partnership with Crypto.com that would have introduced prediction market features on the Truth Social platform.

Stray dog attack on child at Punjab university cam…

Lahore: A deeply unfortunate, alarming, and unacceptable incident occurred today at Punjab University when the young daughter of a university professor was attacked by stray dogs roaming freely on the university campus. The brutal attack left the child with approximately fifteen deep bite wounds on different parts of her body, requiring immediate medical attention. The tragic incident has caused immense shock, grief, and concern among the victim’s family as well as the entire university community. The Academic Staff Association (ASA) and the Joint Action Committee stated that they have repeatedly raised concerns over the growing stray dog population on the campus through both written communications and verbal representations over the past several months. According to the associations, they had consistently warned the university administration that the increasing number of stray dogs posed a serious threat to the lives and safety of students, faculty members, university employees, and their families. Despite numerous complaints and repeated demands for action, the administration allegedly failed to address the issue with the seriousness it deserved, displaying what the associations described as criminal negligence, indifference, and a lack of responsibility. They maintained that today’s tragic incident is a direct consequence of this continued inaction. The Academic Staff Association and the Joint Action Committee expressed profound disappointment over what they described as the misplaced priorities of the current university administration. Instead of focusing on resolving the institution’s fundamental issues, ensuring campus security, and protecting the welfare of the university community, the administration has allegedly remained preoccupied with retaliatory actions, harassment of faculty and employees, and unnecessary administrative conflicts. The associations argued that when an administration neglects its basic legal and administrative responsibilities, such unfortunate incidents become inevitable, and responsibility for the consequences rests with the concerned authorities. Strongly condemning the incident, the Academic Staff Association (ASA) and the Joint Action Committee have put forward the following demands: An immediate, transparent, and impartial inquiry should be conducted to determine responsibility for the incident and hold those accountable. The injured child and her family should be provided with every possible medical, administrative, and financial assistance. A comprehensive, effective, and permanent operation should be launched on an emergency basis to make the entire Punjab University campus safe from stray dogs. A clear, practical, and sustainable campus safety policy should be developed and implemented to ensure the protection of students, faculty members, employees, and their families. The Academic Staff Association and the Joint Action Committee further warned that if the university administration fails to take immediate and effective measures to permanently resolve the stray dog issue, and if any similar incident occurs in the future, they will reserve the right to pursue all available legal remedies against those responsible. These measures may include the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and other legal proceedings against the relevant authorities for negligence. The associations urged the university administration to set aside personal preferences, retaliatory attitudes, and unnecessary disputes, and instead devote its full attention to addressing the university’s core challenges. They stressed that ensuring campus security and safeguarding the lives and property of students, faculty members, employees, and their families must remain the administration’s highest priority. The statement concluded by emphasizing that the protection of human life is the foremost responsibility of any institution, and any further negligence in fulfilling this duty would be entirely unacceptable.

Yash reveals Radhika’s reaction to Toxic romance

Indian actor Yash has opened up about his wife Radhika Pandit’s reaction to his intimate scenes with actress Kiara Advani in the upcoming action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. During an appearance on Rajat Sharma’s popular talk show Aap Ki Adalat, Yash acknowledged that the scenes could make his wife uncomfortable. However, the actor said both he and Radhika understand that such moments are part of an actor’s professional responsibilities when they serve the story. Yash, whose real name is Naveen Kumar, explained that he also had to move beyond his own comfort zone while working on the film. According to him, certain scenes may not be easy for actors personally, but they can become necessary when they are important to the character and the overall narrative. The K.G.F. star said he believes every partner could naturally feel uncomfortable seeing their spouse perform intimate scenes with another actor. However, he stressed that acting requires performers to separate their personal relationships from the characters they portray on screen. Yash also pointed out that Radhika is an actress herself and therefore understands the demands and challenges of the profession. He said she may not necessarily be pleased with the scenes, but she trusts him and understands that he is performing as an actor rather than appearing as her husband in those moments. The actor further revealed that Toxic has been designed with younger audiences, particularly Gen Z, in mind. He suggested that the film explores generational differences and issues relevant to young people while presenting them through an action-driven story. Yash and Radhika’s relationship dates back to their time working together on the television show Nanda Gokula in 2007. Their professional association eventually developed into a personal relationship. They became engaged in 2016 and married later that year. The couple have two children, daughter Ayra and son Yatharv. Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups features Yash in a dual role, portraying both a father and his son. Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi are also part of the cast. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the highly anticipated pan-India action thriller is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 26, 2026.
