Petrol pump owners call off strike after successfu…

A nationwide strike planned by Pakistan’s petrol pump owners and fuel dealers has been postponed after successful negotiations with the government. Following the talks, both the Petrol Pump Owners Association and the Petroleum Dealers Association withdrew their strike calls after receiving assurances that their key concerns, particularly regarding profit margins, would be addressed.

The Petrol Pump Owners Association had initially announced that the strike would begin at 12:00 midnight, while the Petroleum Dealers Association planned to suspend operations from 6:00 a.m.However, after reaching an understanding with government representatives, both organizations decided to call off the protest, ensuring that fuel supplies would continue without disruption.

Speaking after the meeting, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik thanked the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association and various petroleum dealers’ organizations for their willingness to engage in dialogue. He appreciated their decision to postpone the strike in the interest of the public and emphasized the importance of resolving issues through consultation rather than confrontation.

The minister acknowledged that the country has been facing economic and regional challenges, particularly since developments in the region earlier this year. He noted that the prevailing situation has created uncertainty and concerns for both businesses and the public. According to Ali Pervaiz Malik, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is fully aware of the hardships being faced by citizens and remains committed to minimizing the impact of economic pressures on the people.

He further stated that the government has already provided subsidies worth several hundred billion rupees to protect consumers from rising fuel costs. The minister said a targeted subsidy mechanism has been developed to ensure that relief reaches those who need it the most. He also praised oil refineries and petroleum sector stakeholders for their continued cooperation and support during challenging times.

Addressing the dealers’ primary demand, Ali Pervaiz Malik confirmed that the issue of increasing petroleum dealers’ profit margins would be resolved through mutual consultation. He announced that a summary regarding the proposed increase in dealer margins would soon be presented to the federal cabinet for approval. The government, he added, is committed to finding a fair solution that balances the interests of both consumers and fuel retailers.

The petroleum minister also revealed that the recently introduced daily fuel pricing system would be reviewed after a two-week trial period. During this time, the government will closely monitor its implementation in consultation with petroleum organizations before making any long-term decisions. He emphasized that all stakeholders would continue working together to improve the system and address any operational concerns.

Meanwhile, Nadeem Khan, Secretary Information of the Petrol Pump Owners Association, confirmed that the government had assured dealers that their commission and profit margin issues would be resolved. He expressed optimism that the matter would be settled within the next two weeks, allowing dealers to continue operating under more sustainable financial conditions.

Nadeem Khan said the associations had decided to postpone their protest based on the government’s commitments. He expressed hope that the authorities would honor their promises and implement the agreed measures within the announced timeframe. He also welcomed the decision to review the daily fuel pricing mechanism on a trial basis, saying it would provide an opportunity to evaluate its impact before any permanent implementation.

The successful negotiations have prevented a nationwide disruption in fuel supplies, offering relief to motorists, businesses, and the general public. Both the government and petroleum sector representatives expressed confidence that continued dialogue and cooperation would help resolve outstanding issues while ensuring a stable fuel supply across the country.

Selena Gomez faces fraud lawsuit over Wondermind

Selena Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey, are facing allegations of fraud in a new lawsuit involving Wondermind, the mental health and wellness company they helped launch. The legal action has brought renewed attention to the company’s financial difficulties and internal problems. Wondermind was founded in 2021 with the goal of creating a platform focused on mental health and emotional wellness. Gomez and Teefey were closely associated with the venture, while Daniella Pierson served as its co-CEO. The company initially attracted significant attention and investment because of its high-profile founders and ambitious plans. Now, investors who put approximately $1.2 million into Wondermind are suing Gomez, Teefey, Pierson and Wondermind Global Inc. They are seeking a jury trial and financial recovery, claiming they were misled about the company’s condition and future prospects. According to the lawsuit, investors were allegedly given the impression that Wondermind had the infrastructure, leadership and resources needed to become a successful mental health platform. However, the plaintiffs claim the company was actually experiencing serious problems and was already facing a financial crisis. The investors also alleged that they were told Gomez would play a major role in Wondermind’s marketing efforts. They further claimed that Pierson was presented as an experienced business leader with an impressive track record and valuable partnerships. Several potential revenue-generating projects were allegedly described as being in development. However, the lawsuit claims that many of those plans failed to materialize. The plaintiffs alleged that Gomez entered into an agreement to promote Wondermind but did not fulfill her obligations under the contract. They also claimed that expected partnerships and revenue opportunities never came to fruition and that the company’s planned app was never developed. The investors further alleged that they remained unaware of the extent of Wondermind’s financial and operational difficulties for more than three years. According to the lawsuit, the company’s internal problems became widely known after a 2025 report by The Cut detailed allegations from former employees. Wondermind reportedly experienced a major financial crisis and laid off around 60 percent of its workforce in May 2025. Former employees cited in the report made allegations about Teefey’s conduct and claimed there were serious problems inside the company. Some former staff members made allegations involving drug use and described what they claimed was an unstable working environment. One former employee reportedly referred to Teefey’s office using a highly damaging description and alleged witnessing her use what they believed was Ritalin. Teefey strongly denied the accusations, describing them as false claims made by disgruntled former employees. Following the publication of the report, the investors said they sought to rescind their investments and recover the money they had put into Wondermind. The lawsuit now places Gomez, Teefey, Pierson and the company at the center of a legal dispute over whether investors were properly informed about Wondermind’s financial condition. The allegations remain claims made in the lawsuit and have not been established as facts in court. The legal proceedings could determine whether the investors’ accusations have merit and whether they are entitled to recover their investment.

A police constable was martyred and another sustained injuries after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police patrol in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district on Sunday. The attack took place near the old police lines within the jurisdiction of Lakki City police station, where the officers were performing patrol duties as part of the City Rider Squad. Police officials said Constable Sajidullah received critical injuries during the firing. He later succumbed to his wounds. Constable Muhammad Waqas was also injured and was taken to a hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. Following the incident, police teams immediately sealed off the area and launched a search operation to locate those responsible for the attack. Earlier this month, several police personnel were killed in a suicide attack outside a police station in Swat. Italy and Denmark rally 22 EU states behind push f…

Italy and Denmark have secured the backing of 22 European Union member states for a joint push toward stronger border security, following a chaotic migrant surge into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta that left at least 19 people dead. Thousands of migrants attempted to reach Ceuta, located on Africa’s northern coast, on Thursday, with many swimming around breakwaters using inflatable devices while others scaled the high border fence separating Morocco from the Spanish territory. Official estimates put the total number of migrants who crossed into Ceuta from Morocco at around 60,000. The scale of the crossing prompted alarm among European leaders, with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni moving quickly to temporarily suspend Italy’s open border Schengen arrangement with Spain for one month, closing direct air and sea travel from Spain without passport checks. By Saturday, Italy had escalated its response further, joining Denmark in leading a coordinated diplomatic push. The two countries spearheaded a joint letter, signed by 22 EU member states, calling for urgent and coordinated European action on border security, deportations and human trafficking. Meloni wrote on social media that the scenes emerging from Ceuta underscored the urgency of a unified European response to illegal immigration. She said the letter, organized together with Denmark, calls for joint efforts to reinforce external borders, combat irregular immigration, target human traffickers, improve the effectiveness of deportations and remove any incentives that encourage further illegal crossings. She added that protecting the European Union’s external borders is not the concern of a single nation but a shared responsibility across the bloc. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez pushed back against the growing pressure, accusing several EU countries of a selfish, polarizing and unlawful response to the crisis. In a letter sent to Brussels, Sanchez said some European states have chosen to target Spain and push for its temporary removal from the Schengen area, driven by what he described as prejudice, misinformation, ignorance or political motives. EU officials were scheduled to hold an emergency meeting Saturday afternoon to determine next steps in addressing the unfolding migration crisis in Ceuta. The dispute highlights a long running fault line within the European Union over migration policy, as border states facing the brunt of new arrivals often clash with governments pushing for stricter continent wide controls, a tension that has resurfaced repeatedly during major migration episodes over the past decade.
